Welcome to the New Track’Em Tigers

By on September 29th, 2012 in News 21 Comments »

The staff here at Track ‘Em Tigers has been working hard for more than a month to develop a new platform that’s worthy of “Auburn’s oldest and most read independent blog.” Today I’m proud to announce we’ve achieved our goal. Welcome to the new Track’em!

Many of you have been with us since the beginning, way back in 2005. We thank you for your patience as we’ve transitioned to our new home. With more than a million visitors each year and four million page views, we feel a responsibility to our readers to provide the best platform for our coverage of Auburn Athletics.

For those reasons we’ve switched our community site over to a WordPress platform.
We believe the move will make it easier to view TET from different browsers, follow us on mobile devices, and make comments with ease. Our loyal readers will recognize the way the redesigned site works since WordPress was the platform we operated from for the previous five years.

I would be remiss if I didn’t say a special thank you to Paul Elder, a.k.a AubTigerman, for his role in developing the new site. He’s spent the better part of a month adding all the functionality needed to make this a top notch internet destination.

Paul, on behalf of everyone, we thank you.

I also want to say thanks to our web designer, Steven Morgan. From the start, he’s been fast to identify and meet our needs. He’s put many hours into the project and it shows. We couldn’t ask for a better looking platform.

Please take a few minutes to read about what’s new below. But if you just can’t wait to jump in, here are some quick things to check out:

  1. Register and setup your Member profile.
  2. Once you’re logged in, click on “Comment” at the bottom of any post to leave new comments.
  3. The top of the page will highlight “The Featured Article” for the day.
  4. To post your own story, follow the “Dashboard” link that will appear on the sidebar after you log in.
  5. Install and post videos to Track Em Tigers from YouTube or images from Flickr.
  6. Click the “f” button to “Like” or recommend posts and comments to help other people find the good stuff.
  7. We have brought back the page break or “jump” feature for long articles, to keep readers from having to scroll through longer articles on the front page.
  8. You should now be able to access Track’Em without issues from your mobile device (ie. I-Pad, I-Phone, etc.).
  9. Since we are switching from Squarespace to WordPress it will be necessary to register one time to comment or post. To get started, click here to claim your user name and register on this new platform.

Member Post and Personal blog page.

Members will be able to once again write and  post their stories, links, videos, and/or photos they may want to share with the community. Publishing option will automatically appear when you log in to the site. All your activity will be stored on your personal Track’Em Tigers blog page.

Member Profiles, and Avatars,

As in the past your profile will be at the top of your Personal blog page. You will be able to upload an image so folks can see your custom avatar on your profile, your Member Post, and your comments.
Its important to remember that if you write your posts in Microsoft Word or some other off-line editor, you will get the most reliable behavior if you use the built in MS Word Paste tool (icon).

Open Game day Threads and Auto-refreshing Comments

Track’ Em Tigers’ Editor, Acid Reign’s Game day open threads have been a staple for Auburn fans since 2003. We believe you will now be able to participate and comment on the thread without having to refresh the page to see new comments. If you’re logged in, new comments will automatically appear on the page every few seconds. When you post a comment, the page will not refresh either.

We’ve completely replaced the old search engine with a new one to make it easier to find old posts and comments. However, we have not completed tallying our archives yet so check back later to use this function.

It’ will be easy to find that certain post about a certain player, coach, or team. When this function is complete, you will be able to search by the year, the month, and the category.

Additional Changes and Help From our Readers

We also hope you like the new look to Track’Em Tigers. And there are several more small changes and additions we’ve made, so please take a careful look around and explore this redesigned site

If you have questions or trouble with the revamped site, post a comment in this thread and myself or one of the managers (AubTigerman, Acid, or War Eagle Atlanta) will try to point you in the right direction.

Although we are pleased to be back on WordPress, don’t be surprised to find a few bugs. It remains a work in progress. We hope you’ll take the time to report any problems you encounter to one of the site managers.

We’ll be continuing to make changes and improving things. Thanks for being a part of the Track ‘Em Tigers community.

War Eagle!

Like the site — SBNation format change has completely tubed their entire network. Their sites are unreadable on IE9. I haven’t tried other browsers,….but looks like you jumped ship at a great time.

    • DothanTiger DothanTiger says:

      Agree with that.

Looks like SBN screwed up. This site is easy to follow and looks so much better.

Absolutely love the new look for TET.
