Welcome to the Jungle
The Auburn Family sits but one square on the calendar away from seeing their new day officially dawn and the excitement level could not be any higher. Gus Malzahn returns to Jordan-Hare stadium tomorrow evening not as an opponent, but as the face of a new era in Auburn football.
Not since the days that an unproven junior-college quarterback roamed The Plains just three years ago, has there been so much nervous anticipation heading into the opening week of a season.
From day one, Malzahn has stated that his goal is to compete for and win championships at Auburn. Combined with the young talent present on the roster, he and his staff have good reason to believe they can make an immediate impact. All indications point to a program that has found a new direction and committed to it completely.
Though improvement over last season is all but guaranteed, the Tigers still face a long and winding road back to relevance. Passion, cohesion, and physicality are all traits that fans are eager to see return to the field this Fall – traits that the Jordan-Hare stadium lights seem to have a knack for conjuring up.
Times such as this are when legends are born – when everyone is waiting for someone to step up and that unfamiliar name becomes larger than life. When a freshman kicker beats the Gators in the swamp twice in one night. When a team down 24-0 in Tuscaloosa does the impossible. When a kid named Bo goes over the top and turns a rivalry upside-down.
Tomorrow evening; the Auburn Family will fill Jordan-Hare, the band will play, and the eagle will fly. The Tigers will take the field and begin taking back what was lost.
Welcome to a new day. Welcome to the jungle.
