The No. 2 Auburn softball team keeps rolling along. The Tigers got their 20th win of the season yesterday with a 14–0 win over Alabama State. Now winners of 17 of 18 home games and 20–2 overall, the Tigers are hitting on all cylinders.
Auburn jumped on the Hornets right off the bat, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Kendall Veach started the offensive deluge with a three-run double, followed by Madi Gibson’s RBI triple to right field. The two were joined by Haylee Fagan in totaling three RBI’s apiece and one extra-base hit on the day.
Eight different hitters got in on the offensive fire power, including Kasey Cooper who registered her team-leading 25th RBI of the season.
Makayla Martin got the win to improve to 9–2 on the year. She threw four strikeouts in two innings while Kaylee Carlson pitched one scoreless frame in relief, followed by Ashlee Swindle, who closed out the five-inning shutout.
Coach Clint Myers was understandably pleased with his team’s performance. “The defense is good. Our quality at-bats are going up. We’re moving in the right direction to start the SEC, and we’ll go from there.”
And it’s right on time as the Tigers open SEC play this weekend when No. 12 LSU comes to town. First pitch is at 6:00 CT Friday and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
