Tigers Face Tall Task – (Updated 10:30 pm CT)

By on May 12th, 2011 in Other Sports Comments Off on Tigers Face Tall Task – (Updated 10:30 pm CT)

Auburn seniors will lead Tigers in their 12th SEC Tournament today in Oxford, Miss.

The Auburn softball team will face Florida, the No. 3 ranked team in the country today in game two of the SEC Tournament at 1:30 CT in Oxford, Mississippi. The Tigers are 2-3 in Tournament play against Florida. The last time the two met, No. 23 Auburn was convincingly swept by the Gators on April 15 -17.

However, this is not the same Tiger team. Auburn (38-16) has proven they can play with the nation’s elite having taken two of three against No. 4 Georgia just 10 days ago.

Coach Deese said she feels good about how her team has been playing, “I think we are playing our best softball right now. We are playing very well defensively and we really had some players step up offensively this past weekend at Kentucky.”

Auburn is making its fourth consecutive trip to the SEC Tournament and their 11th in the past 12 seasons. The key for Auburn will be to get on the board early. The Tigers are 31-6 in games where they have led after the first inning.

If Auburn wins today they will play either Tennessee or Kentucky on Friday at 2 pm. Today’s game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

Good luck Tigers!

Update:  Tigers WIN – Advance To Semi Finals

Auburn pitchers Jenee Loree and Angel Bunner combined to basically shut down the number one offense in the SEC as Auburn defeated Florida 6-2 Thursday in the second game of the SEC Softball Tournament. The victory was the first Tiger win over the Gators since 2007.

Lauren Guzman and Kelley Smiley led the offense as the Tigers jumped on top of the Gators with a 3 run first inning and didn’t look back.

Auburn is now scheduled to take on number one seed Tennessee at 2 p.m. CT Friday in the second round of the tournament. The game will be carried live by ESPNU.     Go Tigers!
