Slam the Rebel Bears!

By on October 5th, 2013 in Football 65 Comments »

The Rebels didn’t enjoy their last visit so much.
Auburn vs. Ole Miss, Open Thread.

War Eagle, everybody! It’s another football Saturday, and the Tigers are at home tonight in Jordan Hare Stadium. This kickoff with the Ole Miss Rebels will be at 6:02 PM, Central Time. This might be the SEC game of the week, but in a head-scratching decision, the powers that be have hidden this game away on ESPN-U.

Both Auburn and Ole Miss sport 3-1 records, and both hope to rebound from disappointing losses in the last game. For Ole Miss, it doesn’t get any easier after Auburn, with Texas A&M and LSU coming to visit in subsequent weeks. The winner of this game will be fairly certain to be a bowl team. The loser will struggle to get there.

Earlier this week, it looked as if this game might be played in a tropical downpour. The latest weather reports indicate that both the approaching cold front from the north, and Tropical Storm Karen have slowed their approach, and the weather now looks excellent for the game, with temps in the 70s with a brisk south breeze.

As always, feel free to participate in this thread. We’ll be in during the day at times. War Eagle, and let’s hammer those Rebels!

  1. CapnVegetto says:

I hate to say it, but I’m predicting a loss. Ole Miss will be pissed off and looking to prove a point after getting hammered by the Updykes last week.

We are home, and should be able to keep it close, but I don’t think we’re going to beat them. I predict Bo Wallace repeatedly making Jake Holland look stupid, and our offense looking good also, just not as good as them. I’m thinking like 35-32 Ole Miss.

A loss here is not the end of the world. I still think we will beat TN, we SHOULD beat Arky, although we usually suck in Little Rock, and I predict us beating or at least scaring the hell out of at least 1 good (top 10) team this year. I just don’t think this week is going to be a win.

It’s all about psyche. If OM had beaten the turds, or at least come close, I would be predicting a win. Instead we now get pissed off Ole Miss with something to prove, and I think we’ll have to play a PERFECT game to win. Right now we’re just not there yet. We might be by the end of the year, but we’re not right now.

Ole Miss isn’t there either, but they are much closer than we are. Close game, Auburn loses, we walk away feeling ok. That’s my prediction.

    • Todd92 Todd92 says:

Ole Piss goes home with a loss… The second of four in a row. Slide rebels slide….

    • MyAuburn MyAuburn says:

A pissed of Ole Miss team is a possibility but an equal possibility is a beaten up football team playing a team with an extra week of rest and prep. AU 38 Ole Piss 24

  2. uglyjoe says:

AU 42 – Rebel Star War Bears 17

  3. uglyjoe says:

Better yet, 80 plays for Auburn, 52 for Ole Miss

  4. tigertracker says:

With an extra week to prepare and shore up the mental penalties of false starts etc I think we win this one. Yes Wallace and brunetti probably romp thru the middle of the field repeatedly, but they couldn’t score in the red zone last week and our red zone D has been good. Hopefully this is the week our running game rebounds and mason goes for 150+ to keep rebel offense off the field. Run right at nkemdichie and wear his a$$ out! Conner is a good frosh for the Rebs and hopefully uzomah will exploit his height advantage if Conner winds up covering him. Good guys win by 6 or more.

  5. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

I’m nervous that the Col might be right. We would have been an easy ‘let down’ game after a strong showing tin turdland….except, they left their offense in Oxford. So now they’re pissed and looking to prove that they ARE getting better. That’s the worst. We need to be on top of Bo Wallace. Jake Holland better play his damn tail off!

Whoever scores first wins the game. Let it be the Tigers! War Eagle!

  6. uglyjoe says:

Are there any specifics on if / who Ole Miss is suspending from the game for the theatre incident this week?

    • uglyjoe says:

Nevermind, ESPN has a story saying no punishment is forthcoming.

    • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

It’s a shame. The article didn’t say enough about it, but they were not the only ones heckling the actors. It makes me sad.

  7. KoolBell KoolBell says:

Preseason picks of mine, had Auburn winning this 27-24. The score might higher, but I think the second half adjustments made by the home team make the difference 45-42.

  8. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

I turned the UGA/Tenn game off bc it was looking like a rout, early… Is all I’ve go to say about that.

    • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

You know, other than…what the hell was Tenn thinking with those gray uniforms??? Yuck

  9. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

    The home crowd looks boss!

  10. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

That opening drive looked great! Our pass d needs to sharpen up.

Hope that missed 2 pt conversion doesn’t come to bite us later….

    • AETiger AETiger says:

I don’t understand why Gus wants to be so cute on the first score. Just kick it, take the point & move on.

      • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

I actually like it. If we get it, we have an advantage for the rest of the game. This is the first time it didn’t work. So, there’s that.

  11. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Tre Mason is a wonderful beast. That is all.

  12. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Beautiful punt by Steven Clark. Good coverage on the return.

  13. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Marshall’s still overthrowing them, but dropped passes killed that last drive! We need some D!!

  14. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

    Therezie for President!!

  15. AETiger AETiger says:

    Gosh Marshall!! Make that throw!

  16. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

When we get the ball back, we need a nice sustaining drive. Our D needs to recharge.

  17. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

  18. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Oregon 43 and Colorado 16. In the 3rd quarter. Uncle.

  19. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

War Eagle Baby! So happy for Acid….this is totally because he’s yelling his ass off behind the ole miss bench.

  20. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

    First half impressions:
    The D came to play!
    Marshall has wheels.
Don’t piss off Lawson. Like ever.
    Eguae is a man.
    Therezie is a momentum master.
    Tre Mason is a beast.
NM needs to get some magical rhythm in the passing game. He had it early, then lost it a little.
I wish that I could unhear the part where the Arky St AD compared CGM to Satan. Uncool. Uncool.

  21. aubb says:

i was interested by the comment bald fat face made about gus malzahn being similar to nick saban because they are both so calculating…i really believe malzahn will be the nemesis of nick saban and he will leave alabama with a losing record against him…hope it starts this year

  22. aubb says:

i wanna double our lead and win by 28…that would be a successful game

  23. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

I wish Casanova the very best! War Eagle!

  24. aubb says:

  25. aubb says:

just missed the sack…glad we held to a field goal…defense looks pretty good and aggressive

  26. aubb says:

    thats our quarterback!

  27. carolina tiger says:

    We’re back!!!!

  28. aubb says:

    well shiot….congratulations given too early

  29. aubb says:

    great stop!

  30. carolina tiger says:

Can’t believe how our defense is stepping up

    WAR EAGLE!!!

  31. aubb says:

offense still not clicking just yet…sooooo close tho

  32. carolina tiger says:

    Hold em one last time

  33. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

What a game, so proudof our guys! Win or lose, but hopefully we can hold on.

  34. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

As much as I admire the guts and play of our players, the playcallng has really sucked. Pat Dye called and said, “Mix it up! You’re too predictable”

  35. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

Nock Fairly just showed up inAuburn, followed a play later by Takeo Spikes!
Great defensive save by our Tigers…..DEFENSE is BAAAAACCCKK!!!!

  36. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

Welcome back to the top 25 Auburn, you’ve earned it!

Great win over a VERY talented Ole Miss team.

    I hope Cap’n Vegetto enjoys his crow!! ; )

  37. CapnVegetto says:

I’ve never been happier to be wrong. Initial impressions:

    1. Ole Miss isn’t that good, especially at pass blocking.
    2. They will get better. They look a lot like us, young guys learning trying to improve.
    3. Our defense gets better every week. DL looked GREAT. The beat up Bo Wallace’s ass all night.
    4. Less Jake Holland = better LB play.
    5. BIG plays by the secondary all night.

    6. Most of all: I am reminded how much I can HATE HATE HATE!!!!!!! Malzhan’s play calling at times. 3rd and 4? Bomb for the end zone? really Gus? REALLY??????? Throw a 5 yard pass and get the DAMN FIRST DOWN!!!!! And please………THROW THE DAMN BALL A LITTLE BIT!!!!!!!!! 3rd and 7 and you run the f-cking ball up the middle for the 30th straight time??? SERIOUSLY??? You’ll throw it 40 yards on 3rd and 4 but you run it up the middle the 30th time in a row on 3rd and 7????? I literally wanted to jump through the TV and KILL him.

But we won. That’s Great!! As long as we don’t sh-t the bed against our 2 remaining cupcakes, we’re bowling this year.

    • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Is now the right time to point out how the plays that were called lead to a W?….maybe I’ll wait til later……

      • CapnVegetto says:

More like the defense bailed out Gus’s horrible playcalling. Game ball to EJ and the Defense.

        • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

And there it is. Agree w you on the game ball. Ellis Johnson worked some magic over that bye.

        • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Like the defense looked like they were playing together, as one. Haven’t seen that in I don’t want to think about it.

  38. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Like the Col said: Defense is back, baby! IT’s motherfreaking BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

War Eagle! Great win. Could do without the trying to find ways to lose it stuff, but overall.. WOW!!

We seem to get better with every week. Remember coming off of bye weekends flat? Yeah, distant memory. Well, now. War Eagle!!

  39. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Oh and go Northwestern Wildcats or whatever they are.

  40. aubb says:

    northwestern got robbed

  41. War_Eagle_2010 War_Eagle_2010 says:

That’s more like it! Great D-Line play, great ball hawking, good running (Minus the fumbles). I’ll take it! I do agree with Capn on the 3rd and 4 deep ball, if the offense ain’t broke, don’t fix it, run the ball. Other than that I was very happy with the performance tonight. Here’s to being 5-1 going into the TAMU game. War Eagle!

  42. sparkey sparkey says:

So, did the mods ban Restless6 or is that motard just quiet now and sulking. I want him to talk and I hope he hasn’t been banned. Now that we’re 4-1 I want that guy to think about how Auburn is coming back into the fold.

Nice job TOTM, you did an amazing job and you along with the Colonel are right. Auburn’s defense had a great game. I’m not ready to say the defense is back yet. One performance against an ailing team does not a defense make. We need more time to fix it. You will realize how far we’ve got to go against Texas A&M.

  43. wpleagle wpleagle says:

Since I’m the one who called out Restless6 on the in-game comments without making it personal, I agree with him, Sparkey. As I’ve said before, one thing I like about the TET threads is the minimal “in your face BS” that so many sites have. I think Capn is a bit harsh, also, but that’s another day.
