Can Auburn Tear Down the Nets in Nashville? (Story includes how to watch SEC Tournament)

When the Auburn basketball team upset No. 5 Tennessee 84–80 Saturday, it marked the most SEC wins (24) over a two-year period in school history. It not only was the first win over a top-5 opponent in 24 years, but it solidified Auburn’s position in the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive season, a feat that hasn’t occurred on the Plains in 19 years.

Is there a hotter team in the league right now? Winner of their last four SEC games, Bruce Pearl’s Tigers appear to be peaking at just the right moment. The Tigers beat Georgia and Alabama on the road and took care of Mississippi State and Tennessee at home to finish 22–9 and 11–7 in the SEC.

The streak sends the Tigers into this week’s SEC Tournament in Nashville with confidence and momentum. Senior guard Bryce Brown said, “It brings a lot of confidence to the team. I feel like [Saturday] was one of our best days moving the ball. That can roll into the tournament, moving the ball like we did, making extra passes … I think that’s big for us to continue to move the ball, play defense. It just brings confidence into the SEC Tournament.”

Could it be enough to tear down the nets Sunday at Bridgestone Arena? Admittedly, that would be a tough assignment since there are some great teams in the league. But Auburn has proven it can play with the best. So, if the Tigers can continue to play at the level of the last 10 days, anything is possible.

…..This is a very favorable draw. Auburn gets the winner of a match between the two worst teams in the league, Mizzou and Georgia, on Thursday. If Auburn survives that, they play South Carolina on Friday. Auburn seemingly had South Carolina beat at their place, only to see a last second shot go in and out. If Auburn beats USCe, Saturday’s matchup would be against Arkansas, Florida or LSU, depending on wins that part of the bracket.

…..In this year’s event, Auburn won’t have to face the likes of Kentucky or Alabama, unless they make it to the final round on Sunday.

  2. Tigerpharm says:

On another note, the last four games have been amazing. Bruce Pearl has definitely brought the excitement back to Auburn basketball. I hope to see a deep run in the NCAA.

  3. I think it just took some time for this team to jell especially after the opening close losses to Duke and Kentucky followed by the injury bug. But now I think we’ll see a more complete ball team going forward. Now lets go kick some butt in the Tournament. WDE!!!

  4. AUglenn says:

good read and Thanks for the schedule Tigerman.

  5. TigerWoman TigerWoman says:

Excited about both our basketball teams going to the dance. Auburn basketball is fun again.

  6. Acid Reign Acid Reign says:

……Tigers win game One, 81-71 over Mizzou. Wasn’t easy. I am thankful for the afternoon schedules of the Auburn games in this one. I’ll be able to watch every game, if Auburn stays alive in the SEC tournament.
