Ruin the Razorbacks! (Auburn at Arkansas Open Thread)
Tigers look to right the ship in the Ozarks tonight
(Beth Hall-USA TODAY Sports)
War Eagle, everybody! The Auburn football season continues this evening with a visit to Fayetteville, Arkansas to face the Arkansas Razorbacks. Both teams are walking wounded for this one. However, both teams need a win. Arkansas, losers of 4 of its past 5 games, is looking at not making a bowl game this year if it can’t turn it around. For Auburn, any remaining hopes of a championship this year go up in smoke should the Tigers lose this game. This must-win contest will kick off at 6:30 PM Central Daylight Time and will be televised on the SEC Network.
I do not expect Arkansas to be a pushover in this game. Other than the loss at Alabama, Arkansas hasn’t really been blown out. The loss to TCU was close until some late game mistakes handed TCU some easy touchdowns. I thought Arkansas should have won against a good Texas A&M team, but it couldn’t keep up in overtime. The big loss to South Carolina is deceptive, too, because South Carolina scored 3 defensive touchdowns. It wasn’t like these teams really lined up and whipped Arkansas up front.
For those who travel with the Tigers, the weather should be much different. Last week, it was the blistering sun. This week in Fayetteville, kickoff temp should be around 72° F. Originally, rain was forecast for this game, but that has changed in recent hours, thankfully. The last thing anyone wants is to be wallowing in the mud with the Razorbacks! The temp should fall through the 60’s with a storm front arriving after the game is over.
As always, feel free to join in and enjoy this thread. I will be at the keyboard for my usual play by play this evening. War Eagle, and let’s see if Auburn can get back on track against Arkansas!
G’night Acid!! Get some rest!
Getting Dunn and Horton back will help and AU can also move Golson back.
….I saw a deep o-line on A-Day. Looks like we are going to need them all! War Eagle, folks. I’m going to head to bed. I haven’t been asleep since Friday morning.
Overall this was a successful week, I think. Positive momentum going into the break, Pettway seem to be back to form, rested top defensive players. Im worried about Dinson and James. If James cant go, then I think the OL will be Wanogho, Horton, Dunn, Smith, and Golson. That likely won’t be too bad.
Good questions all. Let’s see where we are at and a week off.
…..Kick and punt coverage… hey. Is Terry Bowden suddenly back running those units, again? It seemed the kick coverage team lays off, expecting a touchback every kickoff, and the punt team expects a high fair catch. Has burnt us in back to back weeks. Oh, Scott Fountain, where have you gone?
…..If Darius James can’t go, can Auburn block a tough Aggie D-front? Can the coaches quit calling predictable play-patterns? We got staid in the second quarter, but fixed things in the 3rd, which was a first, this week,
…..Against TAMU, I like the matchup against the Aggie O-line. We saw tonight what pressure on a young quarterback can do.
….TIgers savaged the Arky defense for 629 total yards, including 345 on the ground.
Excellent play by play job Acid. Thanks. I’m out of here.
How do you see the TAMU game right now, Acid?
Thanks again, Acid!!
….Auburn wins, 52-20!!!!!!
……I set, Kelly will fire on the out to Martin, knocked out of bounds, and the game is over.
….Ick. Unfortunate end to that drive.
…..Give to Miller, fumble…. Arkansas has it with six second left, at the Auburn 47.
…..Give Malik Miller, to the 44, spun down. Auburn will be able to take it down under ten, take a knee, and end this game before a nearly empty stadium.
…..We will go under a minute, before they snap it again.
The naysayers can say what they want but Auburn did exactly what they should do – bounce back and handle this game in just the manner they did.
…..Miller, for 2 up the gut.
….New set of downs, and the clock will run well under two minutes before they snap it again.
…..2nd and 6. Here’s Miller again, will bash to the 38.
…..All Tiger backups in, on this offensive series. Malik Miller on the carry, go about 4.
…..Here’s Limpert to kick off again for the Razorbacks. Igbinoghene takes a knee.
….With 3:07 left in the ballgame, Auburn leads, 52-20.
….Looked like a Les Miles toss-pitch inside run. Here’s LImpert for the extra point, good.
…..3rd and goal. Two down territory, certainly. Pitch Whaley, will score.
Let’s go 3rd stringers.
…..2nd and 5. Here’s Kelly faking, keeps, to the two.
…..First and goal. Kelly will toss to Whaley, tripped at the five.
….Give Whaley, to the seven.
….DANG IT! A non-called pushoff, and it’s complete down to the 19.
…..Arkansas has 4th and 12, AND
…..Dime defense in, nearly all backups and third teamers. Kelly takes, and a shovel pass to O’Grady, only three.
Thanks for the play button play acid and gang. Just finished judging a marching band show outside Toledo and crappy Marriott doesn’t have SEC network.
…..3rd and 16, Razorbacks? at the Auburn 38.
….Review: runner was down. Arkansas will retain possession. WIll go down as a loss and sack.
…..I think he still had it with a knee down. Arkansas will get the ball back, unless the refs just blow it.
Nah, he was down. Awesome to see Big Cat in the backfield though!
….And they do review.
…..If they review, that will be overturned, I think.
…..Britt has it, and downed at the Auburn 47!
…..2nd and 7. Kelly will roll left, and SACKED, fumble?
…..Here’s Kelly, hits another tight end, for three.
….Arkansas has first and ten at the Auburn, play fake, dumps to O’Brady, finally dumped at the Auburn 33.
….War Eagle, and enjoy your evening!
With this one in garbage time, good night all. Nice job Acid!
…..Arkansas has another man down, and an injury timeout. Auburn leads, 52-13 in garbage time over Arkansas in the 4th quarter.
….Darius James had X-rays, and they were negative, after his injury. Thank you for the bye week, coming up!
……Give Williams, has the first down, and to the Auburn 49.
…..Nice counter toss sweep.
……Slot left, power right. Williams on the toss, to the Arkansas 48.
….And another Arkansas lineman limps off. Tough situation, for them.
…..2nd and 2 Arkansas. Ace formation. Give, and Williams has 6.
….Give David Williams, for 8 off the right.
….I’m barely fast enough to keep up with the play by play. I’m not going to fix stuff. I does it as I goes.
…..Here’s the boot, and 5 yards deep, Hammonds has it for a touchback.
No apologies needed of course, but you know you can edit and correct that, right? If it bothers you that is.
…..Ball blows off the tee again.
….It’s a final in Oxford. LSU 40, Ole MIss 24.
…..My apologies for misspelling “career.”
….This is a no-win game for Auburn. The nay-sayers will say that a win over a suspect Arkansas team means nothing. Had Auburn struggled, they’d have been REALLY piling on. Auburn took care of business in this one. No, it wasn’t perfect. But Auburn did a lot of things better, this week.
Willis is going to be a fun offensive toy for the next few years.
….And that will go down as a touchdown pass, the first in Malik Miller’s carreer. Carlson is perfect, and with 9:44 left in the ballgame, Auburn leads, 52-13!
….2nd and goal inside the five. Two backs. Flip to Barrett in motion, and HE SCORES!
…..Tyler Carr takes James’ spot. Barrett back in. Gets the give, down to the five.
…..Fake, keeper, WIllis will go out at the ten yard line.
….Oh, man. Darius James goes out on the cart with an air-cast on his leg.
…..The problem with LSU vs. Bama is that Etling will have to stay up, AND make some deep throws. You won’t jet-sweep Bama to death.
…..2nd and 6. Two backs. Diamond set. Barret on the give, got about 3, and Barrett is up hobbling. And right tackle Darius James is still down. WHY is he still in the game?
Well at least it does show that the LSU team that beat us is not the same one that lost to Troy. Think they have a prayer of a chance to challenge bama?
….New set of downs. Give to Kam Martin, got 4.
….To the Arky 32!
…..Backup Auburn offense in. Malik Willis will keep, has ROOM!
…..Michigan will go down today, too. Penn State has ’em down 35-13 in the 4th. James Franklin is winning once again, after a good job in the SEC at Vandy.
…..LSU is pulling away from Ole Miss, now leading 40-16, with about 2 minutes left.
…..I think we can put Southern Cal out of the playoff talk. In South Bend, they are getting killed by Notre Dame, 49-14.
…..Blake Johnson punts again, will bounce in for a touchback.
…..Dontavius Russell with the hit on that play.
…..3rd and 12. Kelly hit as he throws, incomplete.
….TD Moultry on the sack.
…..2nd and 10. Three wides. Kelly will GO DOWN!
…..Give to Whaley, Coe slings him down for nothing.
……3rd and 7, possession play. Kelly will step up, juggled, Jones will have it at the Auburn 46.
…..Arkansas in the gun, dumped Whaley, and lost a yard!
…..Ryan Davis has 8 catches for 63 chain-moving yards, plus has a 62 yard touchdown pass.
…..After being sidelined and hobbled the past few weeks, Kamryn Pettway is up to 90 yards on just 11 carries. He has the Arkansas defenders shying away from contact, too.
…..That is the end of the 3rd quarter, and Auburn leads, 45-13.
…..So, Arkansas has first and 10, Kelly on the draw, gets 4 to the 40.
…..And a flag, Whaley will get close. Call? Third quarter clock is at zero. Offsides on Auburn. Untimed down coming.
….Play fake, kelly keeps, gets 6.
…..A thin Arkansas defense looked gassed, on that last drive.
…..Carlson will bounce another one through and out of the end zone.
@AUNation – I fully agree – I wondered what “closer to 100%” actually meant. Glad to see this to be pretty much true!!
…..We aren’t even to the 4th quarter, and AUburn has already piled up 527 yards.
Dang, Pettway is looking good tonight.
….So much for second half scoring woes.
…..Carlson is up, and once again, GOOD! With 28 seconds left in the third, Auburn leads, 45-13!
Sure would be nice for the back end of the season if Pettway got back to full form!
….New set of downs. Pettway, bounces out, and IS…….GONE!
….2nd and 4. Heavy set, Pettway, bangs inside the 11.!
…..Here we go. Give Pettway, will run OVER tacklers, to the 17!
….Review stands! Auburn has it in Hawg-land!
….Definitely a fumble. Holland had possession while both guys were still standing straight up.
After last week and this one, Slayton should be on the JUGS machine from the time they return to Auburn until time for the UGA game.
…..At the Razorback 23. Three wides, one back tight end, and reviewing.
…..Holland, took it AWAY, from Kelly, Auburn’s football!
….Razorbacks take over at the 28. Trips left, bunch set. Kelly will be SACKED, lost the ball!
….Hit Roberts first.
….Marshall in to punt. (Please punt this out of bounds!) Low liner, bounces at the 27, hit an Arky player, AUburn’s ball? No.
…..3rd and 10. (Tigers are 8-12 on 3rd down on the day.) Stidham will change his play. Fires right, Slayton drops another one. Trying to set up the screen.
….2nd and 10. KJ, buried for nothing.
After last week I may never relax again
…..Stidham will drop, goes downfield, and close to being intercepted, incomplete.
…..Move it to the 39 on the flag. New set of downs.
…..3rd and short. Noise. Give KJ, flag, has the first, but what’s the call?
….2nd and 7. Checking off. Here is a quick pass right, Davis is close at the 34.
Carlson kicked the first one out of bounds.
….At the 25. Swing pass to Johnson, will get about 3.
…..limpert kicks a touchback, and Auburn will take over at the 25.
…..I have to look at all kicks, but I think the rest went for touchbacks. There was an uncalled block in the back.
…..Can’t relax yet.
Acid, we have a hint about how you’ll grade kick coverage.
….limpert is up and good, and with 3:57 left in the third, Auburn now leads, 38-13.
…..With Scott Fountain gone, Auburn’s kick coverage has suddenly become porous.
….Call? No flag. Arkansas scores.
……Carlson will kick it to the goal line, Warren, has some room. Bad, bad coverage, and Warren scores. Flag, at the 15?
Um Ryan Davis throwing darts on the run!
….Ryan Davis threw a beautiful deep ball on the run, perfect spiral, and everything! Slayton was wide open.
….Carlson is up and good, and with 4:13 left in the third, Auburn now leads, 38-6!
….Ryan Davis, with the touchdown pass to Slayton!
Davidson was being held or he would have been destroyed.
…..First down Auburn! KJ, pitch to Davis, fires to Slayton, and he IS GONEEEEEEEE!!!
…..Call? Auburn’s ball!!!!!
…..3rd and 7. DOWN GOES KELLY! Holland, ball out…..
…Good coverage, thrown away, basically.
…..2nd and 7. Kelly will throw left, behind his man.
…..Auburn starters back in on D. Give Williams, 3 yards.
…..3rd and 2. Pitch to Williams, gets past one, and will be smushed down at the Auburn 39.
…..2nd and 7. Three wides, keeper, will be a couple short.
Concerning that Arky is finding success running the ball on us. They entered the game 7th in the West in rushing…
…..Arkansas on first down. Give right, Williams, got three.
…..New set of downs. And we have the starting Arky right tackle limping off, looks woozy.
Wish I could help with the play-by-play but we will be at the UGA game. I got in trouble with my better half for chiming I’m so much against LSU
…..3rd and 1. Sneak, easy to the 36.
…..2nd and 6. Give to Williams, maybe a yard short.
Big tackle by Coe. He had some green.
…..Here come the Razorbacks. Auburn subbing on defense. Play fake, will dump to O’Grady, and not much.
One catch wipes clean 3 drops, so he’s still about 20 in the hole with me. I just don’t understand why he gets targeted almost exclusively on medium deep routes.
…..Carlson to kick off. Liner, will go out of the back of the end zone.
….And of course, we’ll see on the bowl games. I’m off Dec 30, 31, and New Year’s Day.
……Thanks, folks! My only questionable game left this year is Georgia. I have to work that Saturday, on days. If it’s a night kick, I’ll be jumping in in the 2nd quarter, most likely.
…..That was basically a back shoulder fade, against press man coverage. Stidham really should have thrown it deep, as Slayton had gotten behind his man. However, it was thrown back shoulder and Slayton expertly came back for it, and turned the DB around.
Acid Reign, want to thank you as well. I’m at a wedding and my wife has forbade me from listening to the War Eagle network so your commentary is keeping me in the game. War Eagle!
Been out of pocket for a while. Finally able to watch now while sitting in Marlow’s – thanks to Acid I’ve been able to keep up!!
Three defenders all took each other out.
……Fans heading for the exits. Carlson is up and good, and with 7:33 left in the 3rd quarter, Auburn leads, 31-6!
Good on Darius. Nice play.
….The DB lost the ball, in coverage. Pettway is GONNNNNNE!
…..3rd and 5 Tigers. Stidham in the gun. Trips right. Fade, Slayton, HAS it, to the 38!
…..Three wides. Changing the play. Screen to Stove, will get about 3.
…..Stove on the pitch, and not much. Got two.
Ruled sack and fumble?
…..Johnson to punt, and Roberts with another fair catch, at the Auburn 30.
…..Thanks! Three wides for Kelly. Dime blitz, fumble!!!!! rolls out back at the 27!
I love your play by play and injection of color too, Acid. Gameday is not the same without you running the thread.
…..After running a lot of wide receivers in the first half, Arkansas came out with multiple tight ends/fullbacks, and bashed Auburn for a first down. The defense adjusted quickly, though, and got ’em behind the sticks. As usual, the key now is to get off the field on 3rd and 11.
…..Thanks so much!
Your doing a great job acid! War Eagle!
…..With 9:34 left in the third, Auburn leads, 24-6. Arkansas will have 3rd and 11 at their own 35, when the game resumes.
……3rd and 11. Confusion, and Arkansas has to call timeout.
…..2nd and 11. Fake, Kelly will step up, and will bounce it to the 43, incomplete to an open Cantrell.
…..New set of downs at the 36. I set. Motion. Give to Whaley, dumped for a loss, Jamel Dean!
…..3rd and inches, heavy set. Here’s a one back set. Whaley will get the first.
…..2nd and 6. Give Whaley, will be very close.
…..Kelly has twins left, tight end right. Give Whaley, got 4.
….Arkansas will start at the 25.
…..Here’s Carlson, and it’s out of the end zone once again.
….That is the way to put the pressure on the Razorbacks!
…..Stidham tore that two-man zone up a few times, on that drive, and we had the Pettway of old in there, too. Great O-line play too, on that drive.
….Carlson is up and good, and with 12:10 left in the third, Auburn leads, 24-6!
…..PEttwAY, CAN’T BE STOPPPPPPEED!
…..Fake, and here’s Ryan Davis on the hitch, down to the TWO!
…..2nd and 7. Here’s a power give, Pettway, SPINS down to the 16!
…..New set of downs, Pettway, staggering down to the 25.
…..1st and 10 Tigers on the move. Keeper, stidham will dodge to the 28!
…..2nd down. Pettway, will bull to the 41!
…..Give Pettway, will bash to the Arky 46!
….3rd and 5. Stidham will run, and he’s out to the 48!
A drop! By Slayton!
…..2nd and 5. Here’s fake to Pettway, fires to Slayton, batted away.
A pass! On first!
…..Tigers out with 4 wides, screen to Davis, will get to the 30.
…..Here’s the second half boot. Will go for a touchback. Tigers will start at their 25.
Since it worked we probably want go back to it. Fingers crossed though.
….Auburn did a flea-flicker in the first half, but to Eli Stove, and he got 45 yards on it.
Flea flicker would work on first as much as we run up middle and out of wildcat
…..Auburn gets the ball first, as Arkansas kicks off. If he runs KJ up the gut with 8 in the box, we’ll know.
Does Gus have it in him to score more points in a second half than a first? Put a team away? Sadly, I say no. Final score 27-16.
……Checking the SEC scoreboard, LSU leads Ole Miss 16-9, in Oxford. Thus far, the LSU D has kept Ole Miss out of the end zone. I figured a high score was likely, in this game.
…..We have GOT to keep exploiting single coverage. Arkansas is really loading the box, and KJ is only averaging 3.2 yards per carry. He has 63 yards on 20 carries, unofficially.
Yards need to turn into points.
…..Best Auburn stat? Only 6 first half Razorback points. But Auburn cannot sit on this lead, and expect this quarterback to keep missing targets.
…..Arkansas had only 176 yards, but ripped off some big runs against Auburn reserves in the front seven, late in the half.
…..After a torrid first quarter, Auburn started running the ball again on first down exclusively for a while. Tigers have 288 total yards in this one, at the half.
Honestly, if I’m NCM I’m starting to get pissed.
…..It’s halftime, with Auburn leading Arkansas, 17-6.
…..Auburn can take it to halftime without running another play.
…..Give KJ, no guts by Gus.
Gus going to push it?
……Here’s limpert to kick, and it will go 5 yards deep, touchback.
…..Think we’ll see a squibb kick here?
…..With 40 seconds left in the half, Arkansas has cut the Auburn lead to 17-6.
…..Here’s Limpert, will boot it up and through.
…..Bad read, that time. The slot receiver went right by Nick Ruffin, and was wide open in the end zone.
…..Auburn calls timeout, with 43 seconds left. It’s 4th and 5.
……Kelly will go trips left, has time, dumps short, and decked immediately, at the 21!
Their FG kicker is questionable at best, right?
Good time for a sack!
…..It will be 3rd and 7 at the Auburn 22, with 59 seconds left in the half.
…..Arkansas calls their second timeout.
…..2nd and 15. Three wides. Keeper, will break one tackle, gets to the 22.
Why are the LBs out of position on runs?
…..At the Auburn 30, 1st and 15. In the gun. Kelly will float it, underthrown, incomplete.
…..We can’t stop ’em. Luckily, they stop themselves.
…..Kelly will move ’em around. And a false start.
….New set of downs at the Auburn 25.
…..2nd and 4. Give Williams, first down and more.
……Well, they take the penalty. 1st and 20. Give Williams, will miss more tackles. Got 16.
…..and a holding flag, too. Andrew WIlliams on the sack.
…..Kelly will be SAAAAACKED!
….He comes off limping.
…..Down to the Auburn 35.
…..Give to Hayden, and they let him loose.
……You’re too kind!
Acid Reign for OC.
…..Carlson against the wind, and nine yards deep!
…..It’s simple math. If they try to cover Craig-Myers and Ryan Davis with just two defenders, you throw that quick hitch, and you’ll get at least 5 every snap, more if they miss the tackle.
…..Carlson is up and good, and with 3:07 left in the half, Auburn leads, 17-3!
…..Heavy set. Under center, pitch, and KJ IS>>>>> INNNNNN!
Honestly, did ALL these short routes fall out of our playbook on the way to Baton Rouge?
….3rd and 1. Haven’t we seen this, before?
…..KJ will fight to the two.
….First and ten Tigers. Give KJ, will fight to the nine, to the six!
…..2nd and 4. Changing the play. Fires to Davis again, to the 11!
And the automatic handout to KJ on 1st.
….Give KJ, will get 6.
…..Where they spot it, first down.
…..2nd and 10. Here’s Stidham, rolling, fires to Ryan Davis, will be close to the stake.
….Here come the tigers. Stidham fakes, will throw it over Davis. Had him open.
Points needed before the dreaded second half.
…..Slayton has had two hit his hands incomplete, and Nate Craig-Myers on the last one, but it would not have counted, anyway.
Slayton is the only one with a drop, correct? And he’s on about 3 to add to his 17 from last week…
….ESPECIALLY if we do it with 3 or 4 wides.
We used “stickem” back in the day.
…..If we run KJ on first down again, I am going to SCREAM!
….No, Arkansas called timeout. With 5:15 left in the half, Auburn still leads, 10-3.
…..And the first play is blown dead, for a review.
…..We need to break out the super-glue, for our receivers, at this point.
Quit throwing the ball to Slayton. Give someone else a chance to drop the ball.
….At the Arky 41!
…..Auburn HAS it! Darrell WIlliams!
…..Marshall to punt. Kicks it high, dropped the ball!
…..Illegal shift, declined. 4th down.
……Quickly 3rd and 5. Two backs. Time, flag, and another dropped ball. Doesn’t matter.
…..A sweep, at least. 2nd and 5. Stidham will hit Slayton in the hands, can’t get it. Second drop.
….Give KJ, will power to the 22.
….Short run-short-run, pass is bad play calling, once again this week.
…..Just a couple of minutes ago, Auburn had it 4th and inches at the one. After that, run-run, then a throw from the right hash, ALL the way to the left sideline, that was picked off. Terrible design, on that play.
……6 minutes left in the half. Auburn leads, 10-3, but the field has been flipped.
Kelley is big, but he’s going to have nightmares about Jeff Holland.
…..Johnson in to punt again. Roberts deep, fair catches at the 17.
…..Back ’em up. 3rd and 11, now. Can the Tigers cover? Kelly will have time, Nance drops a post pattern.
…..3rd and 6. and a false start!
…..2nd and 4, sccreen, and loses a yard on the lateral.
That ball covered way too much ground after his break.
….Williams on the give, gets 6.
…..That’s a stupid-long throw to try and get 8 yards.
….Out route to Hastings, and they jumped it.
…..3rd and 8, possession play. Trips left. Blitz. And it’s picked off, dee Walker.
…..2nd and 7. And KJ gets dumped for a loss.
….Two backs, and Stidham will check off. Give to Johnson, will get 3.
Just times caught on camera with a nation watching? 575688. Got to be some kind of nervous twitch, but that honker has got to be raw.
…..One other SEC game in progress, tonight. LSU leads Ole Miss 13-6, at the half.
…..Heh! Nearly every time that they pan to the sideline!
Over/under on how many times Gus messes with his nose tonight?
…..Auburn will have it back in Arkansas territory, leading 10-3, with 8:40 left in the half.
…..Punt team in. Johnson will kick it short, hits at the 40, downed at the 41 of Arkansas.
….Stephen Roberts with a great tackle!
…..3rd and 3. in the gun, rolling left, throwing short to Nance, DUMPED!
…..2nd and 10. ONe back. We let Whaley get 7 yards.
Don’t bail them out with a penalty.
…..Kelly will throw on first down? Incomplete against tight coverage.
…..Definitely the right call. Leave them in the shadow of their own goal line. We might be up 13-3, but this could be cashed for a safety-short field and a 9 point swing. Worst case, we are still up 10-3.
We know they have little running game. Time for a safety.
Right call. Good defensive play.
….Replay… good spot on that play. It’s a risk, when you leap. Arkansas counter-leaped well.
….Short. Arkansas’ ball.
….WHere they spotted it, no.
…..Chains coming out, I think.
……Heavy set. Stove in motion, KJ leaps, and I just don’t know.
Nobodies hands but KJ right here.
…..Auburn appears to be going.
….It will be 4th and inches.
…..They rule it short.
…..Let’s please HOPE that Auburn is calling a good play, and going for it.
Gus needs to go if it’s short.
…But was he rolling over another player?
….I don’t think he got it. He rolled over the one. Let’s see what they call. I can’t fault them either way, on this.
….Reviewing the first down?
……Huddle. Wildcat, and a timeout called by the refs. A review…
Trying to establish JS as a running threat?
……Yes, first and goal, they say!
…..3rd and 2. Tigers will huddle. Give KJ, will be very close.
…..2nd and 5 at the six. Keeper, Stidham spins down to the three.
Hey NCM does exist!
….Screen to Davis, will get down to the 7.
Slayton almost leg whipped Stove.
….2nd and 6 at the 37. Time for Stidham, Craig-Myers HAS it, down to the 11!
…..Give Kerryon quickly, gets 4.
…..2nd and 7. Give, pitch back, Eli Stove, will get loose! He is across midfield!
Good grief, our men need to know where the ball is on punt return. He was almost blocked into the return man AGAIN.
…..Here come the Tigers. Checking off. Three wides, two backs. Swing to Davis, will pick up 3.
….Pressure, fair catch by Roberts at the 11 yard line.
…..Stephen Roberts is deep, and Johnson will punt it away.
….Last series, Auburn was getting big pressure, even with just a 4 man rush. Dinson got a sack early, and the line was just teeing off. They can’t do anything with Derrick Brown, and Holland is getting free, too.
Both of those passes could have easily bailed the Hogs out on interference calls. After last week’s holding assault we endured with no calls going our way, it’s nice to get a little flag karma now.
…..Arkansas will have 4th and 28, when we return.
…..An injury timeout, with 13:19 left in the half. Auburn leads, 10-3.
…..That’s really not good.
…..3rd and very long. Fires towards O’Brady, incomplete. dinson down?
D is getting constant pressure on big boy.
…..Back to the 45, 2nd and 28. Kelly will fire, batted away, incomplete, Carlton Davis!
…..Holding, they say.
……2nd and 18. Big rush, and throws it into the ground, and isn’t that grounding?
…Dinson on the blitz!
From the Auburn 37. Here’s a fake, SSaaaaaaackkkkk!!!!
….4th and 1, Kelly will sneak, close.
…..Pitch, Hayden is a yard short.
…..Dumped into traffic, Stewart has it, at the Auburn 41.
…..Derrick Brown with the big rush.
…..Kelly in the gun, 1st and 15, under pressure, and thrown over Nance.
…..Stidham is 7 of 9 for 100 yards, with a dropped pass. Stidham also has a rushing touchdown.
….Auburn had 152 yards in the first quarter, despite kicking off to start.
…..That ends the first quarter. Auburn leads, 10-3.
…..False start, back ’em up.
…..From the Auburn 47, and whistles and flags.
…..From the Arkansas 30. Kelly will throw short on the jailbreak screen, Pate will get it all the way across midfield.
That was a crap call. 10 kinds of uncatchable.
…..Arkansas will reset the chains.
…..Call? Interference on Daniel Thomas.
…..1st and 20. Kelly hit as he let it go, incomplete, but a flag on Auburn.
…..’Bout time! Holding on Arkansas. We couldn’t buy one in Baton Rouge.
…..Three wides. Kelly looks, and will take off for 4, and a flag.
We cannot keep following mistakes up with an even worse play on the next. Outright drop by Slayton followed up by KJ losing ground. Suddenly we miss out on valuable points.
……Second try, and 8 yard deep, touchback.
…..This ball will blow off the tee.
…..Daniel Carlson will get to kick off with the wind once again.
…..Sooners score with 7 seconds left, and will escape from Kansas State most likely, 42-35. I’ll bet that one was fun to watch!
…..If he had cut back to the middle, I think he would have gone in.
KJ braced for the hit instead of fighting for the TD there.
…..With 1:04 left in the first quarter, Auburn leads, 10-3.
…..From 21, Carlson is up and good!
…..3rd and goal. Twins each side. Stidham swing pass, KJ… will go out at the 4 yard line.
….All the way back to the 16.
…..2nd and goal. Two backs. Give KJ, will lose a bunch of yards.
…..Under center, rolling out, will be dropped by Slayton on the out.
Not going to stand the big boy up twice.
….First and goal at the 8, and Pettway comes off limping.
…..3rd and 1. Here’s Pettway, breaks tackles, will fight for the first, barely.
…..Who comes in? Pettway. 2nd and 3. Here’s Pettway, will be stood up, short.
….1st and 10. Two backs. Man coverage. Changing the play, give KJ, will fight down to the 12, loses his hat.
…..Wildcat, KJ will push down to the 19!
Tad bit of Keystone Cops on that one…
…..That was supposed to be a wheel route, but covered.
…..2nd and 4. Trips right. Motion in, and back out. Fake, will scramble, shovels to Cox, got maybe 3.
KJ seems to be a different back than last year. Much more fearless.
….New set of downs. Power give, KJ is down to the 29.
…..3rd and 2. Stidham will give to KJ, will shake off one, to the 34!
…..2nd and 4. Give KJ, a couple.
….Screen to Ryan Davis, will get about 5.
…..Corner, new set of downs.
…..2nd and 8. Stidham will fire to Hastings, great catch, to the 47!
Iggy will make several house calls for AU before he’s done.
…..First and ten. Give KJ, spins out, got 2.
….He was close to going the distance…
…..Kicking against the wind, two yards deep, Igbinoghene brings it out, and tripped at the 28.
….Not as stout, missing a few starters on defense.
….A donny-brook in Manhattan. Kansas State and Oklahoma are tied at 35, with about 2 minutes left in regulation.
Why is defense not as stiff as earlier in the season?
…..A shoestring tackle by Darrell WIlliams stopped that drive.
…..With 7:57 left in the first quarter, it’s Auburn 7, Arkansas 3.
…..In comes Limpert for the field goal. It is good.
…..Will bring up 3rd and 8. Kelly will throw short, and tripped up short!
…..2nd and 8. One back under center, sweep, nothing doing on the jet sweep.
…..first down at the Auburn 23. Give WIlliams, will cut back, to the 22.
…..Declined, new set of downs. Here’s a fake, keeper, and Kelly is loose for about 15.
….2nd and 7 at the 46. Flag down, rolls right, and caught at the Auburn 37.
…..New set of downs, Willams, not much on the give.
…..2nd and 10. Kelly will hold it, will fire to Nance, has it up to the 44.
…..Kelly in the gun for Arkansas, give Williams, nothing!
……Here’s Carlson, DRILLS this one, out of the field of play.
…..Then Arkansas tried a fall-down to stop the clock, and the officials did not stop it. A zone read, and no one was there for Arkansas against the keeper.
…..When the corner recovered, Prince Tega Wanagho pancaked him, and Slayton was off to the races.
….On that big 3rd down conversion, Auburn had trips right, with Darius Slayton alone on the left. Arkansas safety blitzed, and left the corner in man coverage. Slayton ran a tunnel screen, while the corner dropped.
……Carlson is up and good, Auburn leads 7-0, with 11:39 left in the first quarter!
JS running like a deer. Ol fleetfoot.
…..Keeper, Stidham WILL SCORE!
….Pickup of 51!
…..Another 3rd and long for AUburn. Fake, screen Slayton, will break THROUGH!
….No, they call it on Braden Smith.
…..3rd and 6, possession play. Trips right. Blitz coming, and Darius James jumps.
…..2nd and 5. Trips left, pitch to Stove, will lose a yard.
….Give KJ up the gut, to the 40.
….Nice push, on that one.
Lord, back to Slayton. JS and Slayton have some kind of agreement?
…..3rd and 2. Jumbo set, give KJ, will bull to the 35.
….2nd and 10. Will throw on the hitch to Slayton, got 8.
…..Stidham screens to Davis, misses him.
…..Arkansas gets by with running into a guy who called for a fair catch.
Huge break there.
…..Ruling on the field, Auburn’s ball on the 20.
….Punt, Roberts hit as the ball was coming in, fumbled, and rolls all the way out of the end zone! What’s the call?
…..Tried to run a slant, Joryn Peters was having none of it.
Rod was talking about it being windy. Windy enough to be a factor?
…..3rd and 5. Delayed blitz, and incomplete!
Has Carlson ever done that?
….Empty set, keeper, and Kelly gets 5.
…..Cole Kelly in the shotgun at QB. One back, fake, and will dump over the middle, and the ball comes out on the hit, incomplete.
…..Razorbacks will start at the 35.
…..Here’s Carlson to kick it off. Runs on it, low kick, and it goes out of bounds. Ugh.
….”red trim,” I tried to type.
…..I don’t get those uniforms. Gray, red trip, and some kind of gray-purple helmets?
…..Tre’ Williams was out there for the coin toss, and will start.
…..Here’s the coin toss. Auburn wins, and defers. Arkansas will have the ball first.
Oh well coverage goes live and the stadium looks pretty full.
….Well, the sections between the 20s look mostly full. Kind of like an A-Day.
…..Rain and bad storms are expected later, but not during the game.
I was just noticing that too, Acid. There’s like 20 people per section right now!
…..And this stadium looks half-empty. Is Arkansas known for late arrivals?
…..We are about 7 minutes from kickoff, in Fayetteville.
…..Tre’ Williams IS dressed out, and working with the ones. Left guard Mike Horton is out there too, but Marquel is working in his spot. Casey Dunn did not make the trip, out with a knee injury.
…..It’s a final in Starkville, as the Bulldogs down Kentucky, 45-7. Miami has the ball back against Syracuse, and barring a mistake of epic proportions, will beat Syracuse, 27-19.
….In his pregame interview, coach Gus Malzhan just said that Auburn “first needs to establish the run, then hit Arkansas over the top.” Uh-oh. That sounds EXACTLY like Auburn’s second half game plan, last week!
…..final in East Lansing, Michigan State 17, Indiana 9.
….Some breathing room for Miami. They take a 27-19 lead with 2:48 left, over Syracuse. The Orangemen have done little but kick field goals, this afternoon.
…..It is a final in Tuscaloosa. Alabama beats Tennessee, 45-7. Last year, they won by 36. This year, by 38. Tennessee hasn’t beaten Alabama since 2006, when Mike Shula walked the Bama sideline.
…..Sparty scores again. They lead Indiana 17-9, and have to defend for 59 seconds. Miami clings to the narrowest of leads, 20-19 over Syracuse with about 4.5 minutes left in Miami.
…..Late in both contests, Alabama leads Tennessee, and Mississippi State leads Kentucky. Both are identical 45-7 scores.
…..Tray Matthews is in street clothes, during warmups. Trouble in the secondary for Auburn?
…..Tennessee will lose this one worse than last year’s 49-13 debacle, most likely.
…..Wow. Arkansas is out warming up, and those are some ugly gray uniforms! WHY do teams do that?
45-7 Bama but still 3:00 left. Maybe TN has a miracle stored somewhere.
…..Sparty scores, with 6 minutes left. Michigan State has taken a 10-9 lead over Indiana. The Hoosiers have 3 field goals today. Can they get a 4th?
…..A pick six in Starkville, and the MSU lead over Ky grows to 38-7, with about 10 minutes left in the ball game.
…..In East Lansing, Michigan, Indiana leads Michigan State, 9-3 with about 9 minutes left. Will Sparty go down at home?
…..Nationally, it’s a battle in Miami. Mark Richt’s unbeaten Hurricanes hold a narrow 20-13 lead over visiting Syracuse, early in the 4th.
…..Mississippi State is rolling at home, taking a 31-7 lead over Kentucky. Wildcat chances in the SEC East are now on life-support.
…..Make it 38-7, Bama.
…..Two SEC games continue. MSU has expanded their lead over Ky, 24-7, at the end of the 3rd quarter.
…..Tennessee scored their first touchdown in weeks, on a pick six against Alabama. However, Alabama leads comfortably, 31-7 early in the 4th quarter.
…..And it’s halftime in Starkville, MSU 17, KY 7.
…..Alabama scored late, and leads Tennessee 21-0 at the half.
…..Mississippi State goes for it, on 4th and 1. Keeper, stopped short, but then Nick Fitzgerald reversed his field, and burst down the sideline for 46 yards and a score. Mississippi State has broken out to a 17-7 lead over Kentucky, with about a minute left in the half.
…..Checking the SEC scoreboard. Missouri had few problems with Idaho, winning a 68-21 decision on homecoming. Alabama is up 14-0 on Tennessee, near the half. UT is playing better than I would have guessed, or is Alabama playing down to them? Kentucky and MSU are tied a 7-all in Starkville, midway through the second quarter.
…..FSU is having a rough year.
And it is a final – Louisville 31 Florida State 28
31-28 Louisville with :05 left in the game – Costly fumble by the Fl.St. QB has probably cost them the game. No time outs remaining and time for either a kickoff return or one play for a TD.
Louisville led at one point 28-14
Back and forth between Florida State and Louisville — now tied at 28 with 8:58 left in the game.
…..Answer? Not so far. Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock threw an early pick to set Idaho up for a TD, but then the Tigers responded with 34 (34!!!!) first quarter points!
…..I’ll have spotty coverage, today, till late afternoon. Various chores to get done. We wondered if Missouri would have trouble with Idaho, this week.
…..And we are live! Of the injured Tigers this week, we may miss starters on the offensive line the most. Our likely starting lineup will be Prince Tega-Wanagho and Darius James at tackles, Braden Smith and Marquel Harrell at guards, and Austin Golson at center.
About Acid Reign:.....Still making noise after all these years! Lifetime slacker, dreamer, and miscreant with a knack for calculation. I was born in the United State of Texas, but have spent the majority of my years here amongst the shaded hills of the Tragic City, enjoying glorious smog-enhanced sunsets. In a troubled county, I live in a little slice of paradise between the ridges of Red and Shades Mountains. I've been an obsessive Auburn football follower since the Punt-Bama-Punt days, and have seen a lot of great football on the Plains. This lazy shirker finally learned the value of hard work and persistence from the fine folks in Auburn, and enjoys his return visits immensely! Hobbies include guitar-playing (or really just making loud and weird noise on any sort of instrument or object), cooking, computers, tennis, and old-school pen and paper RPGs. I love getting together with a good drink, great family, and friends..... (Acid Reign is Track ’Em Tigers’ Senior Editor). View Profile →
