Rodney Garner Named One of Nation’s Top Recruiters

Auburn Associate Head Coach, Rodney Garner has been recognized as one of the top recruiters in College Football by two different recruiting web sites. Last week 247Sports’ named him one of the top 50 recruiters in the country and today Rivals.com said Coach Garner is one of the nation’s Top 25 recruiters.

Both honors are well deserved and come after the Tigers pulled in a top 10 class with a new staff that had only been together for just a few weeks.

In announcing their top 25, Rivals had this to say about Coach Garner:

“All Garner did was land the two five-stars in the Tigers’ No. 8 class. The Auburn alum deserves high praise for his job of getting Carl Lawson to reaffirm his pledge. Not only did Garner have to re-recruit Lawson when he arrived to The Plains, he also had to recruit Lawson’s parents. The defensive line coach played a huge role in getting Montravius Adams to take his official visit… and he swayed the rugged defensive tackle to leave the state. It was a huge coup for Auburn, which sat outside of Adams’ top two of Clemson and Georgia. Last, Garner stole Elijah Daniel from Ole Miss on Signing Day.”

Auburn Head Coach Gus Malzahn said, “In this league you win on the offensive and defensive lines, and the defensive line was the focus.” Malzahn added, “Coach Garner is a great coach, and he’s going to have three guys that will have the chance to help us immediately.”

And it’s good the Tigers have Rodney Garner back on The Plains. His hiring has already had an immediate impact on the program. War Eagle Coach Garner!

……He’s always brought in good players, and I’m glad to see he’s still got his touch!

I will always wonder what happened between him and Terry Bowden. Still, I was sad to see him go but glad he is back with Auburn.

It really does make you think: all those years at UGA… never EVER once a hint at NCAA investigation.

Taylor and Luper on the other hand….

    WOW.

    War Eagle coach!

…..Bowden pretty much flat-out called Garner a cheater. But it didn’t quite wash. If he’s a cheater, why on Earth would you try to assign him a “recruiting only” front office spot? (Yep, you could have non-coach recruiters back then.) I think Garner wanted more than just being a tight ends coach, and Bowden wanted to demote him.
