Rip the Razorbacks!

By on October 6th, 2012 in Football 162 Comments »

Auburn vs. Arkansas, Open Thread.

War Eagle, everybody! It’s gameday once again in Auburn! Bright and early today, the Auburn Tigers take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Jordan Hare Stadium. The game kicks off at 11:00 AM Central Time, and will be televised on ESPN-2. We expect the weather to be temperate and mostly cloudy, with temps in the low to mid 70s. A shower is possible by the 4th quarter, so bring those rain ponchos!

Prior to the season, this game was expected to have implications in the SEC Western Division title race. Instead, both teams have fallen on hard times, and it’s a battle to avoid the SEC cellar. It could be argued that Auburn has more to play for in this one, in front of a loud crowd. Auburn seemed to have really stepped its game up two weeks ago against top-5 ranked LSU, taking the Bengal Tigers to the wire in a two point loss.

The wheels have really come off for Arkansas the past month. The Razorbacks lost to Louisiana Monroe in overtime, then were shelled by Alabama, Rutgers and Texas A&M by the combined score of 145 to 36. With South Carolina, Mississippi State and LSU still remaining on the schedule, Arkansas sorely needs a win if they are to have much hope of a bowl trip this season.

As always, feel free to sound off and cheer on our Tigers here on this thread! I’ll be at the game, cheering the Tigers on, and hoping to load up a camera-full of good pictures. War Eagle, and let’s rip those Razorbacks!

  1. tigertracker says:

Two tight power I and pound mason til they stop it. That will open up easy/safe curl and out routes for lutz and Blake and maybe even get into play action.

  2. challenger10 says:

That appeared to be a generous spot

  3. challenger10 says:

No good!!! Now we need to capitalize on the missed field goal and run the ball their throats

  4. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Going to be a long game judging by the first two drives….

  5. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Our O-Line is still asleep it seems. Hogs getting a lot of pressure on Frazier.

  6. challenger10 says:

He d line is not getting any pressure on the qb

  7. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

With the amount of comments it seems the offensive linemen aren’t the only ones that are still asleep!

  8. challenger10 says:

War Eagle. I was beginning to think I was the only one on

  9. challenger10 says:

    JH sounds dead.

  10. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

I think there will be serious questions raised after today’s game regarding the direction our program is heading regardless of outcome. We look inept out there so far.

  11. challenger10 says:

With 1 minute to go in the 1st quarter AU trails 7 – 0.

  12. challenger10 says:

At the end of 1 it is Piggys 7 AU 0. AU with the ball

  13. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Mason’s inexperience shows as his poor pass blocking allows a 3rd sack on Frazier. That’s three in the first 20 minutes of the game.

  14. tigertracker says:

Yeah…so we’re pounding with mason and they can’t stop us. Why did we try to pass again and take a huge sack??

  15. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Right now it looks like the scout team vs a first string defense.

  16. challenger10 says:

The D finally forced a 3 and out

    • Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

I think the D might actually settle down and come out to play. The offense…. well, the offense should just hope for some special teams scoring.

  17. The Smarch The Smarch says:

3rd and 22 and we run up the middle. If that play works perfectly we get 15 yards. You’re losing me Gene.

    • Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Unfortunately, he can’t make the O-line block better. Have you been watching Frazier? You really think he could pass that far to someone other than Blake? Would have just been another sack.

      • The Smarch The Smarch says:

So, I guess we’re just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic on offense.

And now Blake with a rare miscue.

C’mon Tigers!! I do have confidence in the defense.

  18. Todd92 Todd92 says:

Offensive line is sucking on the pass protection and damn why don’t we ride Prosch like the workhorse he is.

  19. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

I’m honestly just embarrassed for this offense. I still can’t tell if it’s the coach or the ‘talent’.

  20. tigertracker says:

McAleb wide for a loss as usual. And Blake gets stripped. Coach seriously. Use a lead blocker and run between tackles with mason til we are stopped!!! We aren’t out scheming ANYONE. Can we at least just TRY to outmuscle someone??

  21. challenger10 says:

We are playing with no emotion. We need someone to step up and wake us up.

  22. winnum says:

Hard to believe this is what we put on the field after 2 weeks of preparation

  23. Todd92 Todd92 says:

Right now Loeffler needs to realize his OL can’t protect worth a damn and we need to run power with Prosch leading!

  24. sparkey sparkey says:

If you guys don’t think it’s time for Loeffler to go then I guess you never will. This is absolutely pitiful. We’re still doing the atrocious play calling that has been killing this offense.

    • challenger10 says:

Sparky…I feel your pain but unfortunately no one is going in the middle of the year.

    • The Smarch The Smarch says:

Our offensive line is getting pushed around like little girls. Which is terribly unfair to little girls.

    • wde1988 wde1988 says:

Can’t believe this. This was what I was afraid of. Chizik is going to ride Frazier to the unemployment line.

  25. tigertracker says:

If we don’t score today I could see Loeffler getting dismissed this afternoon. I know firing a coordinator midseason is bad but chiz may have to to appease the fan base…

  26. sparkey sparkey says:

Why have not given the ball more to Tre Mason? It seems to be working every time we do it. Also, why are we still running on the short side of the field so much? I just don’t get it. We do a few things well then we go away from it and back up from there. The defense has turned it around I think. The offense…this offense is worse than when Franklin was here. I can’t believe I’m saying that.

  27. sparkey sparkey says:

Frazier is still throwing it way too high. That was just a great catch by Coates.

  28. The Smarch The Smarch says:

This game is convincing me that LSU is grossly overrated. Sorry Jonno!

I guess we’ll find out with Florida.

  29. challenger10 says:

Frazier has actually looked ok today. If we would just call plays to help the offense succeed

  30. sparkey sparkey says:

Can anybody give me a quick stat on Tre Mason’s carries and average yard per carry? That was a good play for Onterrio finally using a skill set correctly.

  31. sparkey sparkey says:

O-Mac up the middle? Why Why Why?!?

  32. sparkey sparkey says:

Frazier has to throw the damn ball. That was ridiculous just throw it away.

  33. sparkey sparkey says:

I’m just sick to my stomach today. I’ve never seen anything this bad.

  34. sparkey sparkey says:

Our special teams and defense are doing pretty solid. Our offense…I don’t really think I can describe it.

  35. The Smarch The Smarch says:

I feel like this is the second time in a row that we’ve played a team that didn’t want to win and we didn’t accommodate them.

  36. wde1988 wde1988 says:

I got nothing against sunshine pumpers. But this is ridiculous. Don’t know who needs to get fired but someone does.

    Sit Frazier now!

  37. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Jonathan Wallace is looking better and better. Should we now call this Loeffler Ball?

  38. sparkey sparkey says:

I truly think it’s time to bench Frazier. He just doesn’t have what it takes…period.

  39. The Smarch The Smarch says:

It’s great to be an AUBURN TIGER!!!

Although some days are definitely better than others.

  40. jkayaker23 says:

A couple of things. 1st we are the worst team in college football. 2nd your out if your mind if you don’t think that they can and should make a move mid season. 3rd I always thought Gene was a horrible coach. Now he’s showing it.

  41. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

We’ve been shutout at half by a team that has been giving up +50 in SEC play. This is Loeffler Ball. I’m horrible at NCAA on Xbox, but I can even choose better plays than this guy.

    • tigerpaw75 says:

Agree…we keep trying to run into the short side of the field, run draws and screens, and force Frazier under center when he is clearly not comfortable.

The counter play with Mason has worked well for 2 weeks in a row. McCaleb to the wide side. Frazier out of the gun. Where are the throws to Lutz? More Sammie Coates – he will go up and get the ball over the middle.

  42. The Smarch The Smarch says:

When was the last time we lost our Homecoming game? . . . .

  43. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

What’s the over/under on Frazier starting second half? I feel most of this is on Loeffler. Also, they are going to lose a good chunk of the fan base after today. We’re gonna be hearing a lot more boos in the second half.

  44. wde1988 wde1988 says:

Prediction: if auburn starts Frazier in second half get ready to be 3-9.

    • Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

The sad part is that it isn’t solely Frazier’s fault. The O-line has allowed 4 sacks. It isn’t the line’s fault completely either. It all rests on Loeffler’s play calling. It. Is. Atrocious. Giving them no chance to get any type of tempo going. Oh, and another example of inept coaching is leaving two timeouts on the board. Forced Frazier to rush everything more than required.

  45. PhilTheTiger says:

Need something positive to happen in the second half non-offensively…that hurts to say, but a turnover, KO return, PR, Blocked Punt, Onsides Kick…something to give the team some life cause right now they’re playing like theres no hope to win

    • Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Seems like that’s about the ONLY way we’ve ever had anything good happen this season. Special Teams. When is the last time we’ve had a takeaway? We’ve got to be ranked last in turnover margin with the two against us today.

  46. PhilTheTiger says:

Wheres The Juggernaut, i saw him maybe 3 times in the game

  47. PhilTheTiger says:

  48. challenger10 says:

New AB same result start 1st and 15

  49. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

With two turnovers today against Arkansas, Auburn is now the worst in the FBS in turnover margin. Second worst? Arkansas.

  50. PhilTheTiger says:

5 sacks…i do that on NCAA

  51. challenger10 says:

miller flat out whiffed on the block on 2nd down.

  52. PhilTheTiger says:

we look awful, this has to be worse than 2008…we started the season 5-0 i think

    • tigerpaw75 says:

Its worse than 2008 because in 2008 it seemed we’d at least show up most games (except for Bama) for a half

  53. PhilTheTiger says:

The announcer said we were the worse offense out of ALL the power conferences…ouch!!!

  54. tigerpaw75 says:

We have a plethora of 4-star and near 5 star O-Lineman – mostly frosh and soph…but Dismukes (4 star, all SEC freshmen), Slade (unremarkable 2-3 star Junior) and Sullen (2-3 Senior) are not leading the young guys

  55. PhilTheTiger says:

    Hey we got a sack!!!!

  56. PhilTheTiger says:

    Clint has targeted Lutz alot

  57. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

It’s the little victories at this point….. FIRST DOWN AUBURN! lol

  58. PhilTheTiger says:

1st down Tigers…way too excited to say that

  59. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

    Blakeley run without a fumble!

  60. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Not to be sexist or anything, but I don’t really care for women announcers.

  61. PhilTheTiger says:

    short side run…stuffed…again

  62. PhilTheTiger says:

    6 sacks…i…could…vomit

  63. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

At this point I’m actually rooting for Arkansas. Seriously. I want Loeffler gone.

  64. challenger10 says:

The o line blocking is horrendous

  65. PhilTheTiger says:

Hey Hey Now,,,what I’d tell ya, now if we could turn this into some points

  66. PhilTheTiger says:

Damnit, overthrow to EB, that was 6

  67. PhilTheTiger says:

we left the huddle with 12…GD -___-

  68. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

ANOTHER 3rd and long… No one could make this work.

  69. PhilTheTiger says:

    3rd and Opelika, once again

  70. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Wonder what the FBS record for sacks in a game is…..

  71. PhilTheTiger says:

7?!?!…i mean this is the ghost of Honk if you sacked Brodie game coming back to haunt us

  72. tigerpaw75 says:

Defense has played an admirable game…offense is worse than some of the junk we saw in 1998 and 2008…totally hapless…Change Offensive linemen!

  73. winnum says:

I have only been watching AU football since ’06 when I started school there. This is the worst I have ever seen them look. Anyone who has been watching longer seen worse?

  74. The Smarch The Smarch says:

Damn proud of the defense. Them boys ain’t quittin’.

  75. tigerpaw75 says:

1998 was bad…gabe gross at QB. We didn’t play a backup at all in 1996 or 1997 – Dameuyne Craig played virtually every offensive down…and it showed in 1998, along with Terry Bowden’s poor recruiting.

mid-late 2008 with Kodi Burns was pretty bad as well.

  76. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Defense has come back out to play, but offense has given up completely. Sad.

  77. PhilTheTiger says:

If only we could get a INT for TD

  78. The Smarch The Smarch says:

BVG really got it together after the first two weeks. Looking really focused after that first quarter.

  79. PhilTheTiger says:

    What do we want???…TD…whats that???…TOUCHDOWN!!!!!

  80. PhilTheTiger says:

    Mike Blakely returns!!!

  81. challenger10 says:

Where was this play calling for the first 40 minutes?

  82. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

  83. PhilTheTiger says:

YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!! TOUCHDOWN AUBURN!!!!!!

  84. tigertracker says:

Well well. Maybe Loeffler read my first post at half while trying to solve the enigma of our offense…run mason, run mason, run mason…

  85. tigertracker says:

Currently 28 rush attempts for 43 yards. 1.5/ carry. Need more mason

  86. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

She just called us ‘War Eagle’…….

  87. MyAuburn myauburn says:

Anyone know if the tiger cub is ours for good or just a visitor?

  88. challenger10 says:

You have got to be kidding

  89. sparkey sparkey says:

That call was pathetic and that Hoseley’s inexperience there. Unfortunately, that’s one he’ll learn but that one got him today. I hate that it came right then. That totally sucks for him but it is honestly a good learning experience.

  90. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Both my teams this week have been screwed by poor officiating.

  91. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

First Hog offensive points in a second half in an SEC game.

  92. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

I think Mike Blakeley is done.

  93. MyAuburn myauburn says:

Oh man, this could get out of hand now.

  94. sparkey sparkey says:

Where is Mason?!? Is he hurt or something?

  95. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

Seven points, ladies and gentlemen. Seven points to a team that has given up +50 each in two SEC games.

  96. MyAuburn myauburn says:

Wilson has time to read a book and still complete a pass, Mosley and Frazier only have time to say OH Crap!

  97. challenger10 says:

I believe we are officially the train wreck of the season.

  98. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

It is amazing how bad this team is. I won’t even bother to comment on the pathetic offense,
BVG obviously can’t scheme against a spread/passoriented attack. We havne’t done anything to pt pressure on Wilson today and we KNEW that was imperative for us to win.

Well I hope Chizik enjoyed his time on the plains, we boviously are headed to a 3-8 season. Unless there is a HUGE turnaround next year, meaning some big wins over UGA, LSU or Bama….he’s gone. This team isn’t making any improvement and appears to be lazily going through the motions…..thats on the head man. I’m so dissapointed that he has let the program slip to this, I really thought he was a good man who was going to be here a long time.

  99. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

Yea, a fumble!! Moseley has a chance to throw another INT. and keep pace with Frazier.

  100. tigertracker says:

This offense can do well with the right play calling. Fire Loeffler and put the grad assistant on an Xbox in the press box and “ask corso”! Be better than what we have now.

  101. PhilTheTiger says:

    This keeps getting worse…smh

  102. Bren Dekura Bren Dekura says:

At this point it’s just funny. I swear… if I hear more coach speak from Chizik and lack of a straight answer as to how he’s going to fix this…. I’m definitely still a fan of Auburn, but not of Chizik. His whole attitude and demeanor are off-putting. As Iowa State went… so does Auburn.

  103. wde1988 wde1988 says:

Bye bye mean Gene. Its been fun. But i think your time has come gone.

    Wa eagle!

  104. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

It’s hard to win without a qb. The decision to put Moseley in the second half was egregious. Just put Wallace in. It can’t get any worse. Really. Loeffler’s play calling is baffling…to us, not opposing defenses.

  105. wde1988 wde1988 says:

The winds of change have blown in to Auburn with a vengeance. We had it coming. They weren’t caused by anything other than self-inflicted wounds. Auburn’s headcoach Gene Chizik must have seen this coming. Yet, we were told we are getting better….Really? 24-7 loss is better AFTER an offweek? It’s hard to talk this down as “inexperience” when its obvious to just about anyone that this team is getting progressively worse from week 1 to week 5. Today it showed once again on National TV.

And what are we told? We are “disappointed” with the loss too. Really??? No coach. Fans and Alumni are furious!! You have had consecutive top recruiting classes since your arrival and the best we can do is put out a 1-4 team? It’s obvious to anyone who watches this team that our coaching staff doesn’t have the skill set necessary to improve these kids. There is absolutely no progression… no development. None. Not on Defense or Offense.

It’s tough to admit, but it is obvious now that Cam Newton kept Chizik afloat in 2010. He was an exceptional player. He was NFL ready when he came to the Plains. The sad news is that we have declined ever since. What others told us about Chizik was that he wasn’t a very good head coach. Hell, ISU fans tried to tell us the same thing. We pointed to the NC in 2010 in your defense but its obvious now that you didn’t have anything to do with it. It was all smoke and mirrors with an aggressive OC and an exceptional QB.

What have you done since? 7-5 and a bowl game… and this year 1-4, 0-3 in the SEC. WE ARE IN THE very bottom part of the CELLAR OF THE SEC… which is really where we have belonged since you have come on board.

Where do we go from here?

I don’t know. Again, I have said before AU can ill afford to pay another mediocre coach for poor management skills while rewarding that coach into being a millionare because of contract clause. I say you stay and we continue to suffer. Then we do it right and fire you. Hell, we will have to rebuild anyway.

All in? Absolutely. You can’t change the stripes of a tiger… but I won’t be supporting monitarily until after we make a change. So stop the folks from calling the house trying to sell me tickets. The A&M game will be my last game for a while until AU undergoes the change. I simply don’t have the stomach to watch what I had to endure today. And I positively refuse to boo 18-21 year old young men because of poor coaching.

    Thank God for deer season!

    • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Plenty of material for RBR’s meltdown thread. Nice.

    • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Also, the defense didn’t allow a first down in the third quarter. They weren’t perfect, but they gave us a shot. Loeffler’s offense gave Arky all the hope and opportunity that they have been craving.

      • wde1988 wde1988 says:

Dig deeper we need more sun shine pumping. I mean how bad can it be at 3-9? Just watched CGC’s post game. This team has quit. If you read body language so has Chizik. No clue.

Hey Tatortot, lets just call it what it is…. demolition and rebuild. With this coach – it will be a perpetual state of rebuild.

Maybe in a few years of 5-7… will do us good.

  106. tigertracker says:

Mason and Blakey averaged just over 5.3 yards a carry each. I’m no coach but I believe in statistics and most of the time they tell the tale of a game. 5 turnovers is staggering and will kill any offense. What can we do to reduce that #. Aside from that what else kills drives. Failed 3rd down attempts. I think we were 33% conversion or as I like to view it 66% failure rate today. So to reduce our failure rate and turnover rate we run the ball more. That means we can’t throw an interception. It also means that if we don’t take negative plays and only 2 of 3 runs/tries are “average” of 5.3 yds we can gain a first down by a few inches. kudos. We had 10 different people catch a pass today and what good did it do. 7 whopping points gained primarily by hard rushing yards of tre mason and mike Blakey. Those guys want the ball and the line who is being blasted for poor pass blocking actually must be doing a good job of run blocking to achieve 5 yd averages on two players. Our guys need something to build on right now. The stats say they run block well (when mason or Blakey is running). Let them do what they are comfortable doing. Tell them their assignment is to physically dominate the man across from them. Get 3-5 yards and do it again. The passing will come. Run so much that when we do throw the guy is wide open because it is such a shock. I know I sound ridiculous and maybe so, but I throw this out there because the #s say we will gain first downs and I believe the data. If we gain first downs we gain field position and eventually hit pay dirt. So we eliminate interceptions as a possibility for a turnover which leaves fumbles and negative plays and penalties to overcome. Fumbles are going to happen here or there. We’ve had some very untimely fumbles, but I don’t think in insane # by our backs so keep feeding them. Stop false starts and lining up wrong and backing us up. I can handle a holding call now and then cuz at least you’re trying. Now if we aren’t passing we aren’t taking sacks either which today I believe contributed to 68 yards of lost field position. More than DOUBLE what we lost thru penalties at 30 yard! People make a lot of money in baseball knowin an processing statistics. This is not baseball, but a prudent person would use these stats to their advantage. We will shortly begin facing more men in the box and a dwindling average…perhaps. Or our players may surprise you if they are put in a position to succeed (solid run play calling). We will have to pass here or there for sure, but stick to the plan 90% of the time and just SEE what happens? I want nothing but the best for this team and coaching changes may be in order, but good coaches adapt. It means putting your ego aside and consistently attempting what is shown to work in the rushing #s. Call plays they CAN run and have had success with. Not what you THINK they can run and fail at. See how that works for a game and call me in the morning. Also if someone is bored please compare rushing average on runs with/without fullback in lineup. Those 5.3 averages may go up with a fullback…even if more rushing causes that # to drop to 3.4 we still average a first down every three plays. Gain field position and gain points. But I finally digress. Just had to vent. ALOT

    • Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Couldn’t agree more. Running was working, so of course we run a bunch of pass plays. And I agree with the filter..this season, pass is a dirty word. We do not have a line that can pass protect and we do not have a quarterback who can intelligently throw the ball. And, yet, we continued to call passing plays that effectively ended drives. If you can’t pass against Arky, you shouldn’t pass at all.

  107. Acid Reign Acid Reign says:

…..I haven’t read this thread yet, having just got back from the game. Wow. That was as sad-sack a bunch of quarterbacks as I’ve ever seen. And it’s an offensive performance rivaling the 2008 Iron Bowl. Frankly, it looked like Scot Loeffler read my criticisms of his offense, and tried to call more of the bad plays.

……I had a great ride down and a good brunch before the game, but the game was an absolute disaster. I managed to bring the food and drink down, but left my camera, radio and cheat sheet back in Birmingham. So basically, I was as unprepared as our Tigers were, and for that, I apologize.

…..Honestly, I vote to see if we can trade Loeffler to Louisiana Tech, and see if we can get Tony Franklin back. It was that bad. And it wasn’t just the offense. The defense repeatedly couldn’t get lined up right. Y’all, I’ve got tons more to say, and it won’t be pretty in the post game report. We’ll be home for the holidays this year, that much is for sure.

…..Happy anniversary! Gotta celebrate the important stuff! The sun will come up tomorrow, believe it or not. About that sun… James Spann really missed this forecast, which I parroted on the blog. I sprayed some Bullfrog Mosquito Coast on early this morning, which does have some sunblock in it. Was NOT prepared for a VERY sunny day, and am kinda cooked, in addition to football sufferings.

….. I did my heavy lifting on cooking yesterday, with kefta and charcoal-cooked kebabs for the family. Probably should heat up some leftovers, instead of reading Auburn vitriol and hitting the Club-400. We do have some new Dr. Who to watch, too. I might need to get my mind off football this evening…

Wow. Today reminded me of the 1998 season. We look totally lost on offense. At half we were down 0-10. It felt like down 28 points. The stadium had a feeling of dread, no hope. Chiz is in trouble; especially when looking to next year: @ Athens, @ Red Stick; @ Fayetteville; @ College Station. How many wins do you see there? Chiz will be 1-4 versus our traditional rivals. Can any coach overcome that fact? Yes, I am “All in AU”. I have had season tickets since 1984. I literally hate the feeling of no hope in our program.

Changes are needed or this team will continue to slide. It is time for Auburn to open up the pocketbook and hire a HC who can right the ship. If not, the fans will no longer show up for the games. As they say, we should not worry about things that are out of our control.

At least, I was able to watch UGA get beat when I returned from the Auburn debacle.

…..I’ll be there for Texas A&M, even if we get blown out by Ole Miss and Vandy. And I’ll be doing my gig at TrackEmTigers as long as they’ll have me!
