Ranked in 2013?

By on January 15th, 2013 in Member Post 10 Comments »

I was wondering if anyone here at TET thinks that Auburn may have a shot of being ranked in the preseason top 25?

  1. mikeautiger says:

Inthink they should be ranked in the top 25 due to the great staff hired and the talent coming back along with good recruiting class. But I think they will start just outside the top 25. If they were ND yes they would be in the top 25 no matter who beat the snot out of them. At Auburn we always have to prove ourselves so let’s not get too excited yet….but I think our time is coming again.

  2. CapnVegetto says:

Not a chance in hell. Anybody that thinks we should be ranked is crazy.

We were 3-9 last year guys. THREE AND NINE. That isn’t something you snap your fingers and get over. I don’t care if we hired Bill Belichick, we’ve got a long way to go. Gus is going to need at least 2 years to get this mess cleaned up.

Some of the people on here are scaring me. Ranked next year? 10 wins? Quit dreaming. Put down the crackpipe. We’ve got a long way to go. 4 top 10 recruiting classes didn’t do us any good last year, and it’s going to take TIME.

Be patient, people. Baby steps. Gus is going to need more than a year.

  3. Malakai Malakai says:

I’m sorry but I just don’t buy that. Auburn lacks two things: intensity and execution. They have talent. They have enough raw talent to put them in the top third of the SEC. All they need is to be coached by someone with a little vision and direction.

That’s the SEC as I see it now, and I can’t wait for 2014.

  4. DBAU81 says:

There is no way we should be ranked in the top 25. Preseason rankings are often more about how you finished the previous season than a realistic assessment of how you are likely to do in the upcoming season. Our team in 2003 is a good example. It finished 2002 strong and was picked by some to contend for a national title in 2003. We all know how that turned out. Based on how we finished 2012, we’d be lucky to be in the top 75 going into 2013. Some of us seem to think that we’ve got a solid foundation and all our house needs is a little sprucing up. I like the optimism, but respectfully disagree. The players that are on hand may have raw athletic ability, but most of them have shown none of the character, discipline or determination that it takes to succeed at this level of college football. The new coaching staff may be able to get through to some of them, but more likely than not it’s going to take a significant infusion of new personnel and a couple of years or more of coaching them up before we’re contenders again.

    Ranked? RANKED??? C’mon man.

First of all, unless you are in the PLAYOFF, it doens’t matter if you are ranked or not. We just need to compete and the rest will take care of itself.

I will sympathize with the fact that I DO think we have the talent to be ranked and I think Gus believes that, which is why he is bringing in so many highly ranked JUCO’s to fill immediate needs. I think Gus believes that if this team buys in and works hard that we could turn this thing around quick. But thats a BIG if. This team has a lot of players on it that quit last year and that is a cancer that is hard to get rid of without excising the entire tumor which has not been done. We need to be patient and expect effort and execution, thats it. We do those things the wins will come, eventurally, but we were in the bottom half of the NCAA in defense and the bottom 12TH(!!!??) in offense. This going to require more than Malzahn turning on the lights in the locker room. It can be done, but the culture and dedication of the players is going to have to change quickly. I think we have the staff to get the job done, but it may take a little while to accomplish. Luckily our schedule gives us a chance for a quick start but the second half will be a death march, so I hope the guys get their heads on straight quick or we could easily go 3 and 9 again.

This team will not be ranked by any poll! You will have to go down to 40th or worse to find Auburn. IF, and I mean IF we were to win the first two games, we might be in a position to become ranked with a third win. This is our opening schedule…

    Then we get LSU.

Do you really see anyone in those first three games that would deem Auburn good enough to be ranked IF we are able to win all three? I don’t.

  7. Third Generation Tiger Third Generation Tiger says:

Some college teams get a pass when it comes to a down year , or even several down years but not Auburn. Even when Auburn is winning big, we have little if any support from media sources that typically drive college football rankings. So my guess is no, Auburn will not be ranked in anybodys preseason poll.

I think others here have pointed out why we won’t be ranked in the top 25 at the beginning of the season.

However, I am going on the record now:

AU will be ranked in the top 25 at the end of the season.

  9. Orange Talon Orange Talon says:

Top 25 at the end of the season…it’s possible but in my opinion unlikely. Put it this way: we will probably need to win ALL non-conf games and at least 3, maybe 4, SEC games to finish in the top 25. Again, it could happen, but it would be a stretch for year one. Hope I’m wrong.
