Ram the Razorbacks! (Auburn at Arkansas Open Thread)

By on October 19th, 2019 in Football 3 Comments »

Auburn travels to the Ozarks for battle today

War Eagle, everybody! This morning Auburn will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in an early game in the SEC West. Auburn needs this game to clinch bowl eligibility, while Arkansas needs to win it due to a vanishing bowl picture for that team. Arkansas has a record of 2–4 at this time. If the Hogs lose to Auburn, they face an almost impossible task. To get to a bowl after a loss today, Arkansas would have to defeat 4 teams out of a remaining slate of at Alabama, Mississippi State, Western Kentucky, at LSU and Missouri in the season finale. I could envision wins over MSU, WKU and Mizzou, but I just don’t see the Razorbacks taking Alabama or LSU. Arkansas needs to win today, and I expect that the team will give maximum effort.

This game will kick off at 11:00 AM, Central Time. The game will be televised on the SEC Network. Those attending this game should expect partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 60’s. There is a chance of a shower in the first half, but that is only about 20 percent likely.

Auburn has a winning record against Arkansas since the Razorbacks joined the SEC West, but this has also been a team that has been a thorn in Auburn’s side, especially in early games in Arkansas. The whole “Arkansas curse” meme really got started when Auburn kicked off early in Fayetteville in 1999. The Tigers took a 34–10 loss. It was another early kickoff in 2001, and Auburn took a 42–17 beating, the worst of the series with Arkansas. The curse lifted a bit in 2003, as Auburn eked out a 10–3 victory with the morning kickoff. The next early kickoff in the Ozarks was in 2009, and Auburn again wasn’t ready to play. A 44–23 loss resulted. Auburn kicked off early at Arkansas in 2015 and again wasn’t ready to play. The Tigers faced a 14–0 deficit before all of the fan even made it to their seats. Auburn rallied to tie the game at 24 at the end of regulation, but lost in 4 overtimes, 46–54. So, the math and official stats reveal that Auburn is 1-4 in early morning kickoffs in Fayetteville. Tigers must beware, today!

As always, feel free to join in and enjoy this thread. I will at the keyboard all day, observing and enjoying another college football Saturday. I’ll have the play by play for the entirety of this one. War Eagle!

    Where is Nic Coe?

  2. Acid Reign Acid Reign says:

…..He started, and moved around quite a bit. He and Derrick Brown were either read, or double team blocked. Brown broke through anyway. This made for a monster game from Marlon Davidson, as it turned out.

…..I stand corrected. Radio announced Coe as a starter, but he indeed did not play. Coach Malzahn explained that Coe “had not met practice standards” this week, and was held out.
