By on August 3rd, 2013 in Football, News 7 Comments »

7LC6_Roc_ThomasThe No. 3 running back in the nation has committed to Auburn. Racean ‘Roc’ Thomas of Oxford High, Ala. made the announcement Friday. He became the Tigers’ 14th commitment.

The 5-star has been recruited heavily by several of the top programs in the country including LSU, Florida State, and Alabama. He has been rated by Scout as the No. 3 running back in the country and No. 4 by  24/7 Sports.

Thomas ran for 3,304 rushing yards and scored 44 touchdowns the past two years while also catching 2 touchdown passes.

Having been clocked at 4.48 in the 40-yard dash, the 5’11” 200 pounder has the size and speed to be a top back at the collegiate level.

Welcome to the Family Racean and War Eagle!

Before we get a spot on the trophy case ready… let’s just get him enrolled. I have seen too many folks commit to Auburn and then de-commit to go to bama. No need to beat our chest on this until he is in orange and blue.

Golly, on that first run he wasn’t even on the same FIELD as the other players–that is FAST!!! MVH

I’ll take all the good news we can get. The only thing more impressive than his highlights are Nick Marshall juking Ruben Foster out or throwing off his back foot from his 30 to the opposite 15.

Auburn will shock the country this year.

Good speed, balance, agility, and field presence. Makes a ton of yards after contact. I noticed he handles the ball well, shifting to the opposite side as needed. This looks to be a well-coached kid. Reminds me a lot of Cadillac.

Let’s hope his grades hold and commitment hold up. Looks like a winner.

Whether he comes or not, it’s good to see that we are in the mix for the best in the country. We’ve been out of the hunt far too long. It means that Gus and his offensive approach is starting to capture the attention it deserves.

First of all, this kid would nuts to go to Bama. His style fits Auburn. Gus Malzahn will find places to let him work his magic. This guy is good. The immediate comparison goes to Carnell Williams because of body type, but it’s not a really comparison. He is much more like Brad Lester with less baggage, the same speed, deceptive power, and the best balance I’ve seen since Rudi Johnson but he’s faster. He also has excellent vision and I also urge anybody to watch more of his highlights as he is so hard to bring down. It’s really impressive. I know some wish he would not run straight up, but I really think it’s this kid’s special ability.
