Nostalgia Friday

By on January 24th, 2014 in Football 7 Comments »

Today we bring back a feature that ran years ago here at Track’em Tigers. We call it Nostalgia Friday and it’s a look back at old games and athletes that have left their mark on the Auburn football program. If you have any old games you’d like for us to spotlight, let me know. You really can’t re-start a segment without kicking it off with the best.

I’m of course, talking about Bo Jackson. Although Bo remains a big personality both at Auburn and nationally, many younger people have never seen a lot of his game footage. The video above shows most of his great runs both at Auburn and while playing for the Oakland Raiders. Some of the footage is a little grainy, but it’s worth the watch.

It’s hard to put into words how special he was at running back. He’s not just the greatest player to ever suit up at Auburn, he may be the greatest of all-time. Judge for yourself.

There is Bo playing RB at AU up here….

The rest of everyone to play RB at AU, and they are not chopped liver, are down here….

That music was a bit iffy, but great footage of a great man. Hahaha! I still love to watch that play when he bulldozed Bosworth!
The love of watching him while I was growing up is one of the reasons I went to Auburn. It has to be so cool for the current players to have Bo stand on the sidelines with them.
    WDE! Bo

I have a man crush on Bo. There I said it! I was in the 7-9 year old range when he was running for auburn and he was superman to me. When my friends and I would play football in the yard it was always a fight over which of us would “be” Bo that day. I still have a white #34 jersey complete with grass stains that my 6 year old daughter proudly wears now. Vintage throwback. In high school I had to write a report and do a poster board with it. Topic…hip replacement. Poster was raiders logo, royals logo, and a few pics of Bo in each uni and dead center was a pic of a replacement hip. Pretty sure I cried when he went down, but my mind has repressed that memory a lot. Oh what was and what might have been! War Eagle Bo

Game I like being nostalgic about.
’94 LSU – I was dove hunting with a few friends spread out around a field and listening on headphones. Finally turned it off and put phones in my bucket sure that we were going to lose. Got back to my buddies trailer as game was ending. We pull up and trailer was rocking side to side. We go in and his family that didn’t go hunting was celebrating the last int return. Next on where are they now….curly hallman

…..Hallman went on to coach the secondary at Alabama, under Mike Dubose. He also did a stint at Mississippi State after that. His last job was at Muscle Shoals high school, where he resigned after little success after about 4 years. He’s been out of football since.

I consider myself to be extremely fortunate. I competed against Bo in high school football, high school track, and personally witnessed every football game of his remarkable college career. The guy was absolutely amazing.
