New Tigers’ Unlimited Billboard Campaign Starts Early

By on April 17th, 2013 in Football, News 12 Comments »

Riding around Atlanta on I 285 a couple of years ago, I was pleasantly surprised and at the same time filled with pride as I saw a billboard picturing an Auburn Tiger helmet accompanied by the phrase, “Fearless and True.”

For the last several years, the Tigers Unlimited Foundation has annually sponsored more than 50 billboards promoting Auburn University throughout Alabama and selected locations in Georgia. This year the foundation’s campaign is featuring new Head Coach Gus Malzahn pointing to the future along with the coach’s now famous quote, “It’s a New Day.”

The billboards have commonly been noticed right before the fall football season but the 2013 version will start appearing this week before the spring game.

Tigers Unlimited runs the University’s ticket priority program. According to the foundation’s web site, “The Tigers Unlimited Foundation is committed to advancing Auburn Athletics to be the preeminent athletics program in the nation. It is through our members who are friends, alumni and advocates of the university who recognize the value of the intercollegiate athletics experience and enthusiastically participate in a variety of ways.”

It’s good to see the campaign starting up now – just in time to commemorate Coach Malzahn’s first A-Day Game as Head Coach.

I don’t give a flip about a bill board. Does nothing to prevent trees being poisoned by a nut job follower of your arch rival.

I don’t care about a slogan… because it doesn’t help you when you get beat by 35+ points. It’s like your team never showed up.

I speak for no one else… but I want results. We don’t have to win every game… but I want to see hard, definite results. I want to see a competitive spirit at Auburn. This apathetic crap belongs at bama.

Considering Malzahn was here under Chizik… and I guess the “new is starting to wear off”… I am definitely starting to have my doubts.

    Surprise me Gus.

  2. restless6 says:

It is a new day! I’m pumped about the change in the air. Auburn will be back this year.

  3. AETiger AETiger says:

How about some substance and less slogans? Just give us results.

  4. DothanTiger DothanTiger says:

Actions speak louder than slogans for sure BUT, we need to allow Coach Malzahn’s honeymoon period to at least go till the start of the first game. Then we can see if actions match slogans. Until then, I’m pleased with the way he has handled things.

  5. War_Eagle_2010 War_Eagle_2010 says:

It’s important to get the message out to people (and recruits) that AU is under new management. Besides this slogan is simply a fact, every day is a new day, while only some folks were “All In” last season.

  6. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

I hate slogans. “Its a New Day!!”, screams “We’re Losers!!”. I hate to compare Auburn to Bama for obvious reasons, but in this case I must. Whats Bama’s slogan? “14”? “Hey, We Won It Again”? “Drop the Zero’s and get with the Heroes” ? Oh yeah, they don’t have one, at least not one that I’ve heard.

As a native Atlantan, I used to laugh at the hapless Braves of the 70’s and 80’s as every year, they would come up with a “slogan” for the year. My favorite? “We’re Your Home Team!!” Really? I could see why they needed to remind folks of that , because at the time, they were lucky to draw 5,000 to a weeknight home game.

If we are going to do slogans how about “Make sure your medical insurance is paid up!” or “Kicking Ass and Taking Spleens!!” or in that vein “We Just Ran Out of Bubblegum…You May Want To Run.”

When it comes to football, I don’t want, nor do I need hope….I need kids busting their butt and knocking some heads. The biggest dissappointment of the Chizik era was the utter lack of toughness this team showed in the last 2 years. Like most I want to win, but it REALLY gets to me when we get manhandled and beat up without showing an ounce of fight. That is NOT Auburn football. I am going to be behind Auburn no matter what, but if they don’t want me kicking them in the butt they better start getting after some folks. If we are going to lose, I want our opponents at least leaving with a limp and a bloody nose. Thats my new day…..dig it?

    • MyAuburn MyAuburn says:

Boy Col, do you have a way with words or what. “Out of bubble gum” great one. “Limp and a bloody nose” equally great.

  7. War_Eagle_2010 War_Eagle_2010 says:

Helmsmen talking to captain Sulu while the ship is careening through space at ultra fast super light speeds in Start Trek XI: The Undiscovered Country: “Captain she’ll fly apart (talking of the ship)!” “THEN FLY HER APART!” – Sulu. I get the impression that this is Gus’s attitude, he doesn’t care what I or you think, the man has two things on his mind speed and success. Here’s to the players acting like their coach!

Man I want to watch some Trek now…

  8. War Eagle Girl War Eagle Girl says:

It’s Wednesday not Monday ~ did everyone get up on the wrong side of the bed?! I want to win as bad as anyone else but at least give the guy a chance. Yes, I want attitude and fight. At least give the guy a chance. I am sure the PR dept took his opening speech and ran with it. Gus would probably say ~ “Ain’t nobody got time fo dat!”. I am sure that is the least of his worries….

  9. wpleagle wpleagle says:

What a bunch of negative turds! I’m surprised and ashamed of many of you. Leave this kind of nastiness to the bammers.

  10. Tiger on the mountain Tiger on the mountain says:

Wow. A lot of hate. Don’t worry you guys, tomorrow’s a New Day. A chance to wake up fresh, happy and fully medicated.

    Good luck with that.
