National Signing Day 2018—Part Deux

Like it or not, there is now an early signing period for college football which, naturally, takes away from a lot of the suspense of the annual National Signing Day, but I still expect some drama to unfold.

As we do every year, Track ‘Em Tigers will be here with our open thread tomorrow, so please drop by and take part.

It seems that Auburn had a decent-to-good final recruiting weekend with a number of players visiting the Plains. Among visiting recruits were receiver JaMarr Chase, currently thought to be a heavy LSU lean, offensive tackle Richard Gouraige, who is from Tampa and is really high on the Gators, and defensive lineman Malik Langham. To sign Langham means Auburn has to outplay Alabama.

Other recruits on Auburn’s radar include Caleb Tannor, a defensive end from Georgia, who has received offers from too many schools to mention, but Auburn may have a good chance.

Rice graduate transfer Calvin Anderson has stated he would like to play in the SEC, but Texas is very much in the mix. Auburn Head Coach Gus Malzahn has stated that Auburn wants to sign an offensive tackle, and Anderson just may be the answer.

ATH Cam Taylor would likely choose Auburn if he gets an offer. If not, he has an offer on the table from Nebraska. And, then, Quay Walker still has Auburn as a finalist but is probably a long shot.

Someone else to keep an eye on, and expect a decision from tomorrow, is wide receiver Justyn Ross, who is deciding between Auburn, Alabama, and Clemson.

It appears that Auburn may have some opportunity to sign one or more of these but could also sign none.

Is there a surprise Letter of Intent waiting in the wings? Can Auburn pull a last-minute flip?

So, even with the Early Signing Period, there may still be some drama on the horizon.

We will update this page as other news or notes are released.

…..Awesome! I think this is the first signing day I have had a day off for, in my ten year tenure at this blog. And of course, this one will have less drama than most. My big point to watch? Can Auburn sign a blue chip offensive lineman this go-round? It has suddenly become a big need…

I was out of work all of last week with the flu and could not see a manner by which I could “skip” work, in good conscience, for NSD. Glad that Zach is able to step in and assist. Ten years? Wow, has it really been that long? Man, I can remember some of those earlier years. Awesome to see TET where it is now! War Eagle, Acid!!

…..We’ve had the flu-bug in our house, too. I have dodged it, thus far. Ivory soap and Lysol spray are my weapons!

…..Yes, I’m coming up on ten years. War Eagle Atlanta gets the credit for selling me on the idea of blogging. Jay was going to shut this site down, and WEA convinced me to chip in my time, and write a post per week. If nothing else, it has been invaluable typing practice!

…..My thing, of course was doing game play-by-plays. I did a few of those Iron Bowls, back in the Compuserve bulletin board days, and continued it on AOL instant messenger for a while. I’d also write a game review, and chunk it up in the comments on whatever website did not delete such things.

Always look for this post. Even with the early signing period this year, I’m still looking forward to tomorrow. I’ll be checking the site often in the morning.

I usually stay glued to the TET – NSD Thread but I have some appointments tomorrow that will prevent that but I’ll be checking in from time to time. Thanks ATL_AU and Zach for running it!
