Muschamp to South Carolina? Maybe.

By on December 3rd, 2015 in Member Post 3 Comments »

AuburnUndercover now reporting that Muschamp will interview for the HC job at South Carolina.

This isn’t behind the paywall so here is what Phillip Marshall is reporting:

“Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will have an official interview for the vacant South Carolina head coach position in the next 24 hours, 247Sports affiliate reported today.

The website said multiple sources close to the situation said Muschamp will interview today or Friday and that the Gamecocks could have a new head coach by the weekend.

Muschamp, who was named Auburn’s defensive coordinator last December after four seasons as Florida head coach, has spent the past week recruiting for Auburn.

South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner interviewed Gamecocks interim head coach Shawn Elliott on Wednesday and is set to speak with Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley today, according to The

South Carolina is looking for a replacement for Steve Spurrier, the school’s all-time wins leader. Spurrier resigned in October after a 2-4 start to the 2015 and was replaced by Elliott.

Secondary coach Travaris Robinson, who moved to Auburn with Muschamp, is a leading candidate to be named Maryland defensive coordinator.

It is uncertain where Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn would turn if Muschamp leaves after one season.”

  1. Read the Marshall article and he says if South Carolina offers – Muschamp will probably leave. But I’m hoping he stays at least another year.
He says if CWM does leave that Pruitt is a Bama man and would take their offer over an Auburn offer, so got to wonder where would Gus look next?

  2. Col.Angus Col.Angus says:

Muschamp would be a good fit at SC. They don’t have an unrealistic fan base and won’t go crazy winning games 9-6, like they did at UF. Stability is going to be important there and Muschamp would give them that while building a sound defense.

Our DC? There are great options out there. I would love to see Chizik come back, even though it’s about as likely as Saban taking the job. It’s a shame though because the guy is a great DC. There is a great article on this on CaM that lists several strong candidates, least of which is Tracy Rocker. Maybe it’s time to give the Rock a chance. Also what is Takeo Spikes doing nowadays?? That dude would be worth 6 points of defense just from his presence on the sideline!! “WARDAMNEAGLE”
