More Auburn Basketball Players Lost For Next Year’s Roster
Auburn point guard Varez Ward left the basketball team this year after allegations of point-shaving. And then 6’10” center Willy Kouassi and 6’8″ guard Bernard Morena decided totransfer at the end of the season.
Now comes news out of Auburn that Auburn Basketball Coach Tony Barbee has dismissed two players from the team and suspended another indefinitely.
Sophomore forward Josh Langford and red shirt freshman guard Cedric McAfree are the two dismissed from the Basketball Team. In addition, Clemson transfer. sophomore forward Noel Johnson has been suspended indefinitely.
Langford played in 14 games, starting five, and averaged 5.2 points per game before being injured in the Arkansas game. McAfee was also injured and eventually had to be red shirted.
The 6’7″ Langford was a great defensive player and he was beginning to be an offensive threat before a concussion ended his season early.
This action brings the total to six players that will not be on next year’s roster. Coach Barbee gave no explanation except to say the decision was made because of a “violation of team rules.” He added, “We will have no further comment at this time.”
Although Auburn has signed five players, the dismissals / suspension means there are only four scholarship players returning from last year’s team: Frankie Sullivan, Chris Denson,Rob Chubb, and Allen Payne,
