Looks like this is happening.  According to Yahoo! just moments ago they are reporting sources that say McElwain has cleared up buyout issues and will become the next HC at Florida.

(from a comment I made in a different thread on this hire)

McElwain would bring the Saban lore with him. Still a hot commodity is anyone that has coached with Saban in T-Town. I think it was clear that FL wants to move in a different direction with the hire, so an Offensive guy seems to be their main focus. McElwain has improved the program at Colorado St. since he’s been there so he has that going for him as of recent.

McElwain has a proven track record of getting better in his rightful positions provided more than one year at his disposal. I think it’s a good hire for the Gators. I hope to see Auburn making a DC move soon too.

Scratching my head about this one and about Nebraska hiring Oregon State’s Mike Riley?

      Congratulations to Coach Mike Riley!

Mike Riley will always be many folks’ all-time-favorite “Mike” ever to be associated with the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa football program.

If Coach Mike Riley had not decided to do what Coach Mike Riley did in 2002, the world would have never heard of Lori ‘Destiny’ Boudreaux. Nor, would the rest of us have had the opportunity to enjoy the coaching tenure of a couple of (in)famous coaches named “Mike” who are now such an important part of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa football program’s legacy.

And, what a loss that it would have been for the Paul W. Bryant Museum. “So much history, so little time to find enough shelf space to display all of it!”

Mega kudos to Coach Mike Riley!

        …..Heh! “It’s rollin’, baby!”

…..Florida’s trying to catch lightning in a bottle like they did with Urban Meyer. Utah went undefeated in 2004 under Meyer, and Florida gobbled him up as the “next great thing.” I guess that they figure anyone who can turn Colorado State around…. All I can say is that they certainly paid handsomely!

Yeah, Acid, with your great memory and wide knowledge of SEC football history, no way to sneak something like that past you. 🙂

The 3 Mikes: Riley, Price & Shula will forever be linked together in SEC football lore. The Law of Unintended Consequences never sleeps, even in West Alabama!

And, speaking of infamous Bammer Mikes … I know that you know there’s another Mike who is always in the mix if that’s the subject: The one & only “Pride of Luverne High” himself. But, that’s another story for another time.
