Looks like a War Eagle at the Masters may have to wait

Golf is a great sport but it can be terribly unfair. It is not played on a level surface and even though the ball is round it can bounce in some cruel directions. That happened to Jason Dufner yesterday. After 2 early birdies and a bogey Jason hit his second shot just short of the green on number 11. It was as good shot with enough mustard to run on to the green but it hit a knoll in the fairway and bounced 45 degrees to the left and rolled into the water. After rinsing the ball Jason took his drop, hit the green with his 4th shot and 2 putted for a killer double bogey. He never got his edge back after that, making 3 more bogeys and a birdie to post a 3rd round 75. He now sits at even par for the tournament, a full 7 shots back. That is an almost insurmountable challenge. With the leaders at 7 under he would have to shoot something around 63 or 64 and the leaders muddle in around par for him to don the green jacket. It has happened before. There has been a 9 shot comeback in the history of the Masters…hence the 10 shot rule, but it is not likely. Jason has the ability to shoot that score but it is not really in his makeup. To shoot that number you have to take a bunch of risks and pull them off and that is not what Jason is about and Augusta National has a way of punishing risk takers.

I look for Jason to post a good score today, something in the 68-69 range and post a top 10 finish. Can he pull off the miracle comeback, maybe but not likely. Strange things can happen on a golf course though.
