Auburn Midfielder Katy Frierson was named the (NSCAA) National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Scholar Athlete of the Year on Thursday. This honor comes on top of her first First Team ESPN Academic All-American selection.

Katy was also one of 15 semi-finalists for the 2010 Hermann Trophy which is the soccer equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. She is a two time team MVP, a three year First Team All-SEC player, a Second Team All-American and she was named this year (along with team mate Julie King) to the Team of the Season. She scored at least one point in every game this season and led the Tigers with 28 points and 12 assists.

Frierson said she was honored to win the award and that, “Auburn has provided me with a great environment to develop both in the classroom and on the field.” She will be honored at the All-America Luncheon on January, 15, at the Downtown Hilton Hotel in Baltimore, Md., which will be held during the NSCAA Annual Convention.

Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. “This is an incredible recognition for Katy. Obviously she is a tremendous soccer player but she also excels in the classroom For the NSCAA to honor her as the Scholar Athlete of the Year is a great honor for her and for Auburn University.”
