Jeremy Johnson SEC Freshman of the Week

By on October 14th, 2013 in Football 9 Comments »

For the second consecutive week, an Auburn player has been selected as the South Eastern Conference Freshman of the Week. Quarterback Jeremy Johnson was chosen for his performance in the Tigers  62- 3 win over Western Carolina.

Last week Defensive End Carl Lawson earned Freshman of the Week honors for his performance in the Tigers win against Ole Miss.

The four star Carver-Montgomery QB and last year’s Mr Football for the state of Alabama was 17-of-21 passing for 201 yards, four touchdowns and one pick.

Although Jeremy is not expected to start against Texas A&M this Saturday, Offensive Coordinator Rhett Lashlee said he,”wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him having some roles moving forward.”Lashlee says the team knows that. And you have to believe … so do the Tigers next opponent.

Congratulations Jeremy and War Eagle!

Reviewing the Ole’ Miss game and watching what is arguably Marshall’s best performance. I also have the PPV (that was NOT in HD GRRRRRRR) of Johnson’s start. Different levels of opponents so it is hard to make a comparison. Still, the errant interception by Johnson was so weird and off-target that it makes me nervous. That being said Johnson is still far more accurate in the passing game than Marshall, but obviously Marshall is a superior runner. If Marshall could improve on his accuracy just a bit then we’d have a helluva team. As of right now though we don’t really have the deep ball threat, excluding a couple of throws to Coates. That’s something we need to have going forward if we’re to open up the run game against a more stingy and tougher SEC defense.

From what Lashlee said, he got the wrong route for Louis to run in regards to the pass that Johnson was told to throw. That makes it much more understandable. Johnson will be a better quarterback than Marshall will ever be for Auburn.
