Iron Bowl 2012 – However Long The Odds …

By on November 22nd, 2012 in Football 15 Comments »

However long the odds. However troubled our program. However well or poorly coached. Whoever wears Orange and Blue will have me at their back, my cheers ringing in their ears. My heart will be in my throat at kickoff, and with my team at every turn of the game.

Let the fair weather fans sit in trepidation. Let the feeble-hearted predict failure or criticize our players, school, administration or coaches. I will cheer and hope regardless. I will yell “War Eagle!” at every chance. My team is playing in the Iron Bowl, college football’s highest pantheon where legends take the field and glory is fought for and won every year.

Maybe this year another tiny Tre Smith will run out onto the field, or another Bo Jackson will go over the top. Maybe another Sullivan and Beasley will wow the crowd with passing acrobatics. Cadillac will run wild on the first play, a Newton will block two punts, or yet another Newton bring our team back in the second half from the brink of defeat.

But whatever happens, they are my team, this is the game, and Saturday is the day.

Beat Bama, and War Damn Eagle!

Great article! I needed some inspiration for this game after breaking bread today with my Alabama family members. Also, I just checked the web page and all of their rs picked Alabama to win big.

Just hoping for a competitive game from Auburn. WDE!

The local ABC station here is Huntsville runs a feature on slow football days call Gridiron Classics. Today, in between the gluttony I watched the 1986 game, (Tillman Reverse) and the 2002 game when Ronnie Brown and Cadillac was injured and Trey Smith came up big. Wins in both games. I got as excited as if the game were live. I am an Auburn man now and will be forever and I will support my team no matter what the outcome.

I know our program is a train wreck right now and I want change as much as anyone. The desire for that change however does not make me a bad fan, just a dissatisfied one. I am still the biggest Auburn fan most of my friends know. I know it is a bad thing but my whole attitude changes when we win or lose. Like one of my employees said before the Ala A&M game. If we lost that one he was going to hide my belt and shoelaces.

Just like everyone on here, we are rabid Auburn fans and our rants about coaching, AD decisions, etc. does not make us bad fans. Just the opposite, it just shows that we care too much.

    War Eagle!!!

Tomorrow is the day, tomorrow is the game where Auburn men and aburn women show their true colors. I have been, and will continue to be very vocal in my dissatisfaction with the shape of Auburn athletics, and recently academics, but tomorrow only one thing matters. Beating Bama.
