“The future of Auburn football is very bright.” That’s what Auburn AD Jay Jacobs said tonight when he released details of a new contract issued for Head Football Coach, Gus Malzahn. The move came just days after declaring that Auburn would only talk about contract extensions after the season was completely over.
Apparently rumors of other schools interest (including Texas) in the rising star prompted Jacobs to speed up the process. Either that or Malzahn is not the kind of guy who wants to string things along in an effort to get a better deal. I suspect it’s a little of both. At any rate, the news is good for Auburn fans, potential recruits, and especially the team. All can move forward without any uncertainty hanging over the program. And that’s a good thing.

It’s also a reward for the man who promised when he was hired a year ago to bring, “Championship level football back to Auburn.” He has delivered on that promise in short order, with the Tigers having already claimed the SEC Western Division Championship last Saturday and playing for the league championship tomorrow in Atlanta.
“As I’ve said before, we want Coach Malzahn to be at Auburn for a long time,” Jacobs said. “The new contract … is our statement that Auburn is committed to Coach Malzahn for the long haul. While this season has been remarkable, I’m equally excited about the future of our program under his leadership.”
And so is the Auburn Family. Congrats Coach Malzahn and …
