Gig the Golden Eagles! (Auburn vs. Southern Mississippi Open Thread)

By on September 29th, 2018 in Football 2 Comments »

Tigers last met USM 10 years ago

War Eagle, everybody! This afternoon, the Auburn Tigers host the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Both teams are coming off big wins and are looking to successfully continue their respective seasons. For Auburn, it’s a week to work on the offense after gaining just 225 yards in a 34–3 win over Arkansas. For the Golden Eagles, it’s an opportunity to score a major upset of an SEC team in their own back yard. It has happened before. Auburn lost back-to-back games to Southern Mississippi in 1990 and 1991.

This game will kick off at 3:00 PM Central time, on the SEC Network. At kickoff for this one, temperatures should be around 85°, falling to the upper 70’s around sunset. It should be partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower today at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

As always, feel free to join in and enjoy this thread. I will at the keyboard for my usual play by play on my main desktop! I should be able to operate at full speed this week. I’m hoping for a big Auburn win in game five. Auburn usually starts really tearing opponents up this time of year. War Eagle, and let’s smash Southern Miss!

I shouldn’t have called the defense apathetic.

Well folks…war eagle anyways. This is the deal…the inexperience on the o line is real. It will be the talk of the rest of the year, and we can only pray that they improve each game. Right now, improvement looks minimal.

Stidham has regressed, there’s no doubt about it. Most of it is a confidence issue which is due to our o line, but there are times when he continues to drop back in the pocket, when he should step up in it, and he can’t sense pressure.

Hopefully, this young offense can figure things out, but I see growing pains this year. We could see losses to MSU and TAMU, as well as definite losses to UGA and BAMA if we can’t get any better. The injuries arent helping either. Let’s enjoy the wins as they come. Gus isn’t worth what we are paying him and that’s a fact.
