Dufner rounding into form before US Open
Auburn’s Jason Dufner is getting his form back after injury, divorce, and losing 20+ pounds in the off season. He had a great weekend last week, finishing tied for 8th, and this week is in the hunt at the Memorial Golf Tournament at Jack Nicklaus’ Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
On Friday he had a span of 3 holes where he went birdie, ace, eagle. That’s right, no typo, he birdied 14, knocked it into the hole for an ace on 15, and followed it up with an eagle on 16. Going 5 under on 3 holes will shoot you up the leaderboard in a hurry.
After a lackluster 2 over 74 yesterday he is on the course, is 1 under through 3 holes and could have easily been 3 under for the day as his other birder putts just burned the edge. He is really too far back to contend (5 behind right now), but is on the first page of the leaderboard and destined for a high finish.
I look for him to contend at Chambers Bay for the US Open title. If you have some spare time today, tune in to CBS Sports and watch a little. Telecast begins at 1:30 CST.
I am getting used to the new “thin man” look, and I have to say he is dressing much better this year. He is paired with Dustin Johnson today, and Dustin looks like he is on the way to the gym while Jason looks like a million bucks with two-tone wing tips, pink shirt and white slacks. Dapper, to say the least.
Got get ’em Jason and War Eagle.
