Demolish the Ducks! (Auburn vs. Oregon, Open Thread)

By on August 31st, 2019 in Football 5 Comments »

A fantastic, air-conditioned venue waits the teams tonight

War Eagle, everybody, and happy Labor Day weekend! College football is back today, in full swing. This evening, the Auburn Tigers will take on the Oregon Ducks in Arlington, Texas. This is the biggest national game of the weekend in an early top 20 nonconference showdown.

This game will kick off around 6:30 PM, Central Time. It’s an afternoon kickoff for Duck fans on the West Coast. The game will be televised nationally on ABC television. Weather should not be an issue in the closed, air-conditioned AT&T Stadium, although the walk to the stadium from the parking area will be hot and humid, around 90 degrees near kickoff. There is a chance of a stray thunderstorm, but only a small one.

The game should have national appeal as folks tune in to see if the SEC will continue its winning ways against the rest of the country. The SEC has won 9 of the past 13 national championships and over 60 percent of its bowl games during that span. This game is a great chance for both Oregon and Auburn to garner national attention.

As always, feel free to join in and enjoy this thread. I will at the keyboard for my usual play by play, armed with a cool beverage and BBQ potato chips. Let’s see if Auburn begins a memorable season against a tough out-of-conference opponent. War Eagle!

  1. I can't hardly stand it. I'm so nervous. Can't imagine how the players feel.
I also can't figure out how to add my comments into the thread???

  2. New format here has me puzzled.

…..Yes, it now has pages on the live thread. I don’t like it, either.

…..We’ve still got issues, though. I was worried earlier this week that I’d be running the thread from the comments. Still, the other big change on the live blog was the ability to add other screen names to each post. Unfortunately, that option is between the text block, and the post button, which is long and narrow. My usual posting technique was tab-enter, and it was hard to not do that. Under the new look, it’s tab-tab-enter. Miss a tab, and then you have to back out of the extra screen name screen, which takes time. Hopefully we will get smoother with this thing, as the season progresses.

What a gutsy game! Auburn never quit, though at times I thought it was pretty much over. They will be talking about this game for a while!

Gus… you got a gutsy kid at QB. What a baller!

Defense stepped it up in second half! What a call to get the TD at the end. It basically redeemed Seth Williams!

AU played a great Oregon team. PAC 12… you best watch out.
