Crush the Cavaliers! (Auburn vs. Virginia, Final Four Open Thread)
This is rarefied air for the Auburn Tigers!
War Eagle, everybody! For the first time in Auburn history, Auburn will play a 5th game in the NCAA basketball tournament. Auburn will face the number-one seeded Virginia Cavaliers in US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN in the Final Four. The winner goes on to the national title game.
Virginia is a great shooting team that likes to milk possessions down to the end of the shot clock and limit opponent’s opportunities. Auburn faced a team like this earlier in the season and lost both games to Ole Miss. On defense, Virginia runs the notorious Pack-Line defense, designed to protect the rim and limit three-point shots. Where it is weak is protecting drives off the dribble, and Auburn has one of the best point guards in the country in Jared Harper at doing that. I expect that the Cavs will have to adapt and try to double-team Harper. The key for Auburn is going to be passing the ball to secondary offensive players and knocking down open shots.
This game tips off at 5:09 PM, Central Daylight Time, in Minneapolis. It will be televised on CBS. If you have to stream it, your best bet is March Madness Live. I will be here, running an open thread. This will not be a strict play-by-play as there is no way I can type as fast as Auburn runs its offense! I will more be exclaiming on big plays, relating the score, and doing color commentary. War Eagle, and let’s beat the Cavs!
