Coach Yox is OUT!

By on December 6th, 2012 in Member Post 6 Comments »

It is being reported on rivals that Coach Yox has been let go by Coach Malzahn. This is after 13 years of service to Auburn.  Yox was initially hired away from UCLA by Coach Tommy Tuberville and later retained by Coach Gene Chizik.   Reportedly, Malzahn is mapping out new responsibilities for this position.

The sweeping session is still in progress!

……I’m saddened by this, but hopefully Yox will land on his feet. I can understand Gus wanting to sever all ties to last season’s collapse. Hopefully, he’s lined up a great replacement.

He is one of the two coaches I wanted to keep along with Boulware. I understand what Gus is doing. He wants his guy getting the players ready to run his offense. In the spread that does not necessarily mean bulk and strength. It also means speed and quickness.

Someone told me before the AU/TAMU game that supposedly some of the players were skipping the mandatory work outs with no consequence. If that is true, that’s a S&C coach problem and would explain what he was not retained.

I wish the best for him and his family. He has been a rock of consistency for a very long time at AU and I am sure he will end up somewhere and do a great job.

If this is true then he HAD to go.. it would be difficult to gain the respect of the players back if this was happening and would send the wrong message to keep him.

Another post listed the YouTube link to his replacement and Gus talks about how he trains specifically for the style we play. Maybe that played into it? Either way I wish coach Yox the best and thank him for all of his years of service to the tigers.

Actually, I’m not too upset he’s out at Auburn now. I didn’t like his style. Our boys get hurt more than anybody else’s and we’re not strong enough. He doesn’t use the bench press which is something they use in the Combine for the NFL. If for nothing else, he should have implemented the exercise just to keep that from hurting his players’ NFL draft stock if they had any.
