Butch who?

By on December 7th, 2012 in Member Post 7 Comments »

Well, the Tennessee Volunteers have finally hired a coach. Who is it you might ask?

Butch Jones. He was the head coach that was at the University of Cincinnati.

The guy who the Denver Post reported was going to be the head coach at Colorado.

Jones is 44 years old. He has a record 50-27 as a head coach, including 23-14 in three seasons at Cincinnati. The Bearcats (9-3) will play Duke (6-6) in the Belk Bowl on Dec. 27, in Charlotte, N.C.

Good hire?

One thing is for sure… right now, he is already behind IF Gus Malzahn’s action are a guide.

First two games with Austin Peay and Western Kentucky for Coach Jones will be cream puff games. But after that he will face Oregon, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama.

Yikes. And yes, AU plays UT on 9 November at Neyland Stadium….

If people were stressed that AU would screw up their coaching search (happily they did not)…how do you feel if you are a Vol??

Good question. I am not sure about the answer. I think the guy “looks” qualified. Considering his schedule next season… it’s already looking monumental. You know what they say about “first impressions”.

I honestly don’t think the UT fan base understood just how bad things had gotten… and that goes back to Fulmer.

I haven’t seen the money for this guy yet… but I would bet that Ark and UT coachs are getting paid more than Malzahn.

OK, I’m in the WHO? camp. I mean I knew that Cincinnati was doing good but I do not know anything about this guy… What sort of style is he going to bring to the Vols?

Frankly, I am a little surprised at the trouble TN has had getting a coach. I mean I know it is a tough SEC job but I can’t figure out why no one wants to take this on if they are willing to write a big enough check… Is there really that much working against a successful team here? Are they not capable of getting their fair share of recruits, having great facilities, a great fan base? (I’m sure Vol Fans will return full fold with a few wining seasons) Someone that knows more about what is going on up there try to explain to me why TN all of the sudden had to go down a list of coaches before someone was willing to take over this program?

The last coach to leave Cinci is playing for the national championship.
