Bash the Bulldogs!
Tigers begin SEC competition tonight!
Auburn vs. Mississippi State, Open Thread
War Eagle, everybody! It’s Auburn football game day once again! Tonight, the Auburn Tigers will host the Mississippi State Bulldogs, at Jordan Hare Stadium. This is the SEC opener for both clubs, and it’s an important league game. The winner will be off towards a successful season, and the loser will likely struggle to even make a bowl game in the tough SEC West. This game begins at 6:00 PM, and it’s on ESPN-2.
Mississippi State comes into Auburn with a 1-1 record, having dropped their opener 21-3 against Oklahoma State in Houston, in front of a half empty stadium. The Bulldogs rebounded last week by pounding Alcorn State 51-7 at home. Expected to return to action tonight will be senior Bulldog quarterback Tyler Russell, who suffered a head injury in the season opener. Russell is a veteran gunslinger with a strong arm.
The Auburn Tigers have opened the season 2-0, and hope to extend their winning streak. The Tigers fought off Washington State in the opener, 31-24. In the second game, Auburn ran it up on Arkansas State, 38-9. There are concerns with the Tiger defense, which gave up over 400 yards in both contests. Despite defensive concerns, Auburn has been able to win thanks in part to a dangerous running game, which is averaging almost 300 yards per contest.
Folks in the Deep South woke up to a bit cooler temperatures this morning, and conditions at the game should be less oppressive than the past two weeks, with less heat and humidity. There’s no chance of rain. Expect the mercury to be around 80 degrees at the sunset kickoff, falling through the 70s throughout the game.
As always, feel free to participate in this thread. We’ll be in during the day at times. And we’ll have our usual play-by-play during the game. Let’s all cheer our Tigers on to victory in this one! War Eagle!
