The Auburn Women’s Golf Team overcame 30 mile per hour wind gust and late challenges from Arkansas and Alabama to win the SEC Golf Championship on Sunday.

It was the second consecutive Conference Championship for the Tigers and the third in four years. By successfully defending their 2011 Title, the No. 5 Tigers have now won a total of nine SEC Titles with eight coming under Head Coach Kim Evans.

Auburn started the day with a one-stroke lead and finished in the same position, but not before a back nine battle with the Razorbacks.

Senior Patricia Sanz won the Individual SEC Title. She finished the tournament one stroke ahead of Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex (220) and two ahead of Arkansas’ Emily Tubert (221).

Evans said, “I could not be happier for Patty and for the team, they played their hearts out and never quit. On a golf course as tough as this one, that’s what it took to win.”

On a related note the No. 3 Auburn Men’s Golf Team finished second in the SEC Men’s Golf Championship Sunday. It was their second highest finish since 2005. The Tigers shot a 3-underpar 277 at the Seaside Course of the Sea Island Georgia Golf Club in St. Simons.

Junior Blayne Barber led the Tigers with a third place finish. It was his sixth top-5 finish of the year. Barber carded a 3-under 67 to finish at 4-under for the tournament.

Congratulations to all these Tigers, you’ve made us all proud. War Eagle!
