Auburn Softball Upsets No. 4 Alabama
The Auburn Softball Team playing in its first league road series this weekend upset No.4 Alabama in Tuscaloosa today. It was the Tigers first win against the Tide since 2006.
Bama jumped out to a quick three run lead in the second inning but Auburn scored 5 runs in the same inning to take the lead and go onto a 7-4 victory. The Tigers got a four-hit, two-RBI performance from Emily Carosone and a complete-game from pitcher Marcy Harper to defeat the Tide 7-4.
Auburn improved to 21-12 overall and Alabama dropped to 28-4. The win snapped a 10-game losing streak to Alabama at Rhoads Stadium. Auburn’s last win in Tuscaloosa was on March 22, 2005.
“I am tremendously happy for our players and proud of the effort they gave today,” Auburn Head Coach Tina Deese said. “We battled back after getting behind early and never cracked. I thought Marcy did a really good job of never letting them get a big inning going. They put runners on, but couldn’t get a hit off her to get anyone home. We’re going to enjoy this tonight and get ready for a big game tomorrow.”
The two teams have split the series so far with Alabama taking Friday night’s game and Auburn winning today. Sunday’s deciding contest will be broadcast by ESPNU and will begin at 2 p.m.
