Auburn Softball Team Ranked in Top 25 for First Time this Year

The Auburn Softball team was ranked in the top 25 teams in the country today when the Tigers broke into the poll at No. 24. It is the first national raking for the Tigers since 2012.

The national recognition comes as a result of the Tigers’ fast start and the respect shown for the job Coach Clint Meyers is doing at Auburn. When Athletic Director Jay Jacobs announced the hiring of Meyers last summer he said his goal was to “find a proven winner.”

Meyers certainly has brought that winning attitude to The Plains. His Tigers are presently 13-1-1 and could easily be 15-0 but for a one run loss to No. 23 Notre Dame and a declared tie in a rain/sleet shortened opener against Troy on Feb. 6. The poll comes on the heals of the Softball team’s 4-0 game sweep at the Wilson-DeMarini Classic over the weekend.

Although Auburn is averaging 9 runs per game, it’s been pitching that has led the way so far. Tiger hurlers have struck out 61 batters during a 10 game win streak while allowing only 18 walks. The Tigers will be taking that winning streak into tomorrow’s game against No. 9 Florida State.

It should be an entertaining evening at Jane B. Moore Field with the first pitch coming at 5 p.m. Admission is charged this year but fans that show their Men’s Basketball ticket for Wednesday night’s game against South Carolina will be admitted free. And those that purchase a softball ticket will also be admitted free to the Auburn basketball game. You really can’t beat that deal – two games for one ticket.

So if your in the area come out and support the nationally ranked Auburn Tigers’ Softball Team. War Eagle Ladies and …
