Auburn Softball Team Opens Clint Meyers Era with Two Wins
It’s a good thing anytime a new coach can win his inaugural game with a program. The Auburn Softball team did that yesterday for new Head Coach Clent Meyers. And with the record Meyers brings to The Plains it is particularly fitting.
Considered one of the top coaches in the country, Meyers brings a .678 winning record having taken his previous team to eight straight Super Regionals, made seven appearances in the College World Series, and won two National Championships.
His Tiger Softball Team opened their fall schedule yesterday by sweeping Wallace State Community College in a doubleheader 13-1 and 10-3. In addition to the 23 runs scored, the Tigers’ pitching staff was solid with sophomore Marcy Harper leading the hurlers with a five inning, one hit, scoreless performance in game one.
The offensive charge was led by standout junior Morgan Estell, who was 3-for-3 with five RBI’s, and a three-run home run.
Meyers has a veteran squad to work with including four players that were named All-SEC last season: junior Braandi Melero, junior Morgan Estell, and sophomores Emily Carosone and Tiffany Howard who were selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Auburn’s next game will be Thursday, Oct. 17, when the Tigers take on Southern Union at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field. If you’re in the area, come out and be a part of the new era in Auburn Softball. Admission is free and what better way to spend an autumn afternoon than on The Plains watching the Tigers play.
