Auburn Soccer Earns 12th SEC Tournament Bid
The Auburn Soccer Team, 2011 SEC Tournament Champions, earned their 12th straight SEC Tournament bid Friday night after defeating Vanderbilt 4-1.
The Tigers did it with four different players scoring goals. But senior forward Mary Coffed provided the leadership, when she scored the first goal in the eighth minute and then added an assist on the game-winner.
Her score was the 15th of her career and put her in a tie for 10th place on Auburn’s All-time record for career goals.
Head Coach Karen Hoppa said, “This is a huge victory. To be able to clinch a spot in the SEC Tournament this early and know we are playing in the postseason is great for this team. It was a fantastic effort.”
Auburn’s 12 consecutive tournament puts the Tigers in third place for most tournament appearances behind only Florida with 18 and Tennessee with 15.
Auburn at 10-8-0 is now in sixth place in the SEC and only one point behind Kentucky in the league. And the Tigers will play Kentucky in Lexington on Sunday.
The kickoff for the match is set for 1:30pm CST. Good luck Tigers and War Eagle!
