Auburn Hits Jackpot with Arizona Commitment

By on January 21st, 2011 in Football Comments Off

Sources in Texas and Arizona say that Arizona prep All-American offensive tackle Christian Westerman is set to decommit from Texas today and commit to Auburn. Gene Chizik’s ability to retain offensive line coach Jeff Grimes appears to have been the deciding factor.

Texas coach Mack Brown made a huge play for Grimes last week and nearly lured him to Austin as part of his staff. Grimes ultimately decided to remain on the Plains.

Westerman visited Auburn last month and developed an immediate bond with Grimes.

A 6-foot-5, 295 pound lineman, rated by Rivals as the 18th top prospect in the nation, Westerman was paid a visit by Auburn coaches while they were in Arizona this month. It seemed to work.

Westerman is set to announce at his high school today.
