A True Auburn Hero

By on July 6th, 2013 in News, Uncategorized 4 Comments »

This past week we lost a member of the Auburn Family. Sean Misner, 26, was one of the 19 firefighters killed in the Yarnell Hill fires in Arizona. He briefly lived with me in Auburn and fully embodied the Auburn man. He had a spirit that was not afraid and proved it in the way he lived his life.

He was a member of the elite firefighting unit known as the “Interagency Hotshots Crews.” The Hotshots name is a reference to being in the hottest part of fires. The units are trained professionals that have an excellent reputation throughout the United States and Canada as elite teams of professional wildland firefighters.

10350_10151520220856045_288330457_n - Sean MisnerSean left Auburn only because he “had to see about a girl.” One year later he married that girl. He leaves behind a wife that is seven months pregnant with their first child, Jaxon.

I know the incredible resolve of our extended family and I believe at this time we need the prayers of every Auburn brother, sister, mother, father, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, and anyone who believes the words of the creed.

Sean was a man who served us all by “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God.” He made the ultimate sacrifice in serving others and he will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him. He was a true Auburn hero.

Editors note:
A Sean Misner Memorial Fund has been created to provide money for his wife and unborn son. Those interested in helping may also want to visit the Sean Misner Memorial Facebook Page

So very sad and horrific. We’re praying for Sean’s wife, family, and friends. Thanks for posting.

  2. MyAuburn MyAuburn says:

Not so surprising that we had a Tiger on the front lines of the fire. Astronauts, firefighters, leaders of industry, and military leaders from AU seem to crop up when things need a special person to get the job done. My condolences to the family. AU lost another hero.

I’m so very sad for all of these families. We shouldn’t need stark reminders that every moment with our family is so important and should never be taken for granted.

I feel for Misner’s widow. She’s got a tough couple of months coming up. My heart and thoughts are with her and all of the family’s of the firefighters.

Thank you so much for posting this. I could barely breathe after reading about your friend’s courage and integrity and thinking about the grief his and all those families must be experiencing. I will pray for Sean’s family and for that precious baby boy.
