Ryan Jenkins is met at homeplate after his 3 run homer in Auburn’s Championship win over Ole Miss.

John Pawlowski and his Auburn Tigers have done it, they have won the Western Division SEC Championship. The Tigers crushed the Ole Miss Rebels Friday night in Oxford 18 – 4. This is the team’s first Championship since 1995 and it marks the first time since 2003 that Auburn will be going to the SEC Tournament in Hoover.

Ryan Jenkins led the hottest hitting team in college baseball with 4 hits, including a 3 run homerun, and two doubles. He hit his 3 run homer off a 3 – 0 count. This was particularly fitting for a guy that had to sit out last season with a broken hand. Three other Tigers hitting homeruns included Brian Fletcher, Kevin Patterson, and Dan Gamache. The Auburn offensive machine produced 20 hits against several Ole Miss pitchers. Auburn is 38 – 17 overall and 19 -10 in SEC league play. The19 league wins are the most ever in regular season play for Auburn.

When starter Cole Nelson began to struggle a little bit in the 4th inning, freshman Slade Smith came in to relieve him and went the distance to complete the win. Smith said ” this is everything I dreamed of when I signed to play for Auburn … It’s great to see us finally at this level. “

The Tigers still have one game left to play Saturday against Ole Miss and then it’s onto Hoover for the SEC Tournament. They will be seeded 2nd and will play at 9:30 am on Wednesday against either LSU or Alabama, depending on how those two teams finish up their seasons.

Coach John Pawlowski in his second year has brought his team from next to last place in 2009, to SEC Western Division Champions in 2010. He was humble in victory, remarking  ” The guys have worked hard, they deserve this. I’ m just happy to be part of the program and honored to be here.”  Well Coach we are happy and honored that your with us too, and no matter how the rest of the season unfolds, you should be the SEC Coach of the Year ….hands down !
