Auburn’s two greatest athletes Bo Jackson and Cam Newton.
The Under Armour brand beat out Nike in the battle of the advertisers at this year’s BCS National Championship game. Now it appears that Under Armor has done it again by beating out Nike for the endorsement rights to NFL player to be Cam Newton.
Media reports today are saying that Under Armour has given Newton the largest shoe and apparel endorsement contract ever for an NFL rookie.
Not since the “Bo Knows” campaign of the 1980′s has a former Auburn star commanded such attention from the advertising world. And no matter what some Auburn haters may think about Cam, he is not a damaged brand, especially since his NFL career will be determined (like anyone else) by his play on the field.
Of course there is no way to tell if Cam will be like a lot of former Heisman winners and not pan out in the NFL. I’m sure if that were to happen, it would please many of his detractors.
But that will not happen. The sports world has not seen anything like his talent since the days of the greatest multi sport athlete to ever suit up – Vincent Bo Jackson.
Like Bo, Cam will go down as one of the greatest to ever play the game. And Under Armour will go down as having made one of their greatest ever business decisions.
