Four-star cornerback/safety Marcus Roberson from St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. has committed to Auburn. He said, “Auburn is the school me and my mom felt the most comfortable at. I just feel that I can become a better person and have a good opportunity early at Auburn.”
Rivals has the 6’2″, 180lb cornerback rated as the number 2 cornerback in the nation. He is a high school All American; and helped St Thomas Acquinas win the 5-A state championship this year.
This is a big pick up for the Tigers. The Rivals scouting report says that he could become a difference maker:
” For being so tall he has a smooth backpedal and the ability to pounce. His ball skills are tremendous and he does a nice job of keeping the receiver in front of him at all times. He has enough size and versatility to play some free safety along with cornerback. Roberson has the coveted height to combat taller receivers. He has all the tools to become a difference maker while earning all-conference honors.”
Roberson had been a soft commitment to Texas Tech but had recently decommited from the Red Raiders. Even so, many had expected him to sign with Tech since his uncle Otis Mounds was hired 12 days ago as a defensive back coach. He was also on the wish list at Florida, USC, Georgia, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Miami.
Marcus said that it feels great to have the process over with and that ultimately it was the Auburn family atmosphere that swayed him to become a Tiger.
