Can the Tigers pull off a miracle?
(Auburn at Alabama, open thread.)
War Eagle, everybody! It’s Iron Bowl Saturday! I hope everyone’s had a happy, filling holiday. Now, it’s time to cinch up those chin straps, and go to war. May the best man win. This Auburn team goes into the contest a historic 31.5 point underdog, but we’ll be here all day regardless, cheering our Tigers on!
For those attending the game, expect bell-clear blue skies for this one, with a chilly north breeze. The temperature is not likely to reach 50 degrees today, and will be plunging towards 40 in the 4th quarter. The winds should be dying down late, and you might see a waxing gibbous moon rising over Bryant Denny Stadium in the 4th quarter.
As always, feel free to join in and cheer on our Tigers! We’ll be here calling like we see it, and cheering the team on. As the song goes, “we’ll hang Alabama by a sour apple tree, A-U-B-U-R-N!” Glory, indeed! War Eagle, and enjoy the game, folks!

[liveblog]…..War Eagle, and good morning, everyone!
…..test.
…..Folks, be sure to hit the refresh button (F5) often today. Auto-refresh still apparently isn’t working.
Morning Acid. Hope the cat does not destroy the tree. I had a black cat that loved to climb into the tree. Quite a shock when you are greeted by pair of orange eyes shining out of the tree in the night.
…..We’ve adapted over the years, important ornaments up top, throw-aways and actual cat toys near the bottom. A few strategically placed catnip mouses can keep most other ornaments ignored!
We have another kitty now and it really is not Christmas without my wife yelling, “GET AWAY FROM THAT” way too often.
I look forward to viewing the play by play. It is a great day for football and I will begin with the Georgia/GT game. Some of my friends are heading to Tuscaloosa, but I will stay and watch the game with my 90 year old mother. Stan and Rob should be good on the radio today.
WDE!
Anyone know where I can stream the game on the Auburn network for us out of staters? Would much rather listen to them than listen to announcers blowing smoke up Coach Satan’s butt all day.
Go to the AU network website and you can find a list of radio stations that will be carrying the game. Some will stream the broadcast. You have to wander around the list to find one. The only problem is that the TV and radio are not synced up. They are up to 5 seconds apart and it’s kind of disconcerting.
…..1070 on your AM dial, if you live in the Tragic City area. I’ve listened to none of the TV guys this year during Auburn games. Stan and Rod rule!
If your using a smartphone you can download the Tune In Radio App from the Google Play store. Just search AU football and you can listen to Rod and Stan.
I usually tune in to 92.7 FM Paradise in Haleyville, AL or 106.5 The River in Demoplois.
Go Tigers! Beat bama! War Eagle! Warming up to pull for our team. Cat nip around the tree that is a good idea, putting mine up this morning. Have a beautiful NC ornament to help sooth the wounds of the year and comfort me during the game and give me hope for winning and a bright new year as we start our climb to the top again, we will be back!
Good morning all and WAR EAGLE! Today is the beginning of our return to the top.
looking forward to the waxing gibbous moon rising over Bryant Denny Stadium in the 4th quarter.
I got the gibbous moon, what does waxing refer to?
…..Moving towards a full moon Wednesday night. “Waxing” means increasing, in this instance. After the full moon, it will be waning till it’s not visible anymore, two weeks later.
Got a pot of gumbo simmering. Boiled down the ham bone from thanksgiving last night, building the gumbo around the rest of the ham and the stock. Will finish off about gametime with some shrimp.
….. Sounds good! I’m eating leftovers today, myself. And of course, my traditional coffee and chex mix during the game. Might switch to Club-400 on the rocks, if it gets bad in the 2nd half…
Leftovers for me too, work prevents libation but come 5PM when I close will be a different story. I hope it is a celebratory libation instead of drown my sorrows.
1st bloody mary of the day coming up. gotta work on brakes on the wife’s car next, so have to keep it respectable until gametime.
I can only hope Auburn can pull the upset, ill have all my Auburn gear on as well as my spoiled pit bull in auburn gear, I tought him how to do “touchdown” lets hope he can do it some today, War Damn Eagle, I believe in my tigers, Beat Bama!
Desmond Howard said if we keep it close into the 3rd quarter we might get a close win. But he also said if you remember Samford and son, “It could get Aunt Ester Ugly, if bama gets a fast start.” Wow, i sure hope not…Go Tigers! Let’s surprise them all.
Aunt Ester wasn’t all that bad
Wish I could be there like I was in the ’60s when we weren’t much better than we are this year and I still yelled “WAR EAGLE” until I was hoarse no matter what the score. At 74, I still remember the “good old days”! It’s GREAT to be an AUBURN TIGER and it always will be!
WAR EAGLE !!!
GO BIG BLUE !!!
BEAT BAMA !!!
Keep up the great work at TET. Looking forward to next year and better days to come.
domaucan1 from Big BR,LA
Auburn can win this game. I have a feeling that the defense shown at LSU will show up today.
Screw the prognosticators calling for a blowout.
War Eagle Everybody! Even when you have little chance of victory, it’s always a special day. I’m still excited. My wife thinks I’m crazy. I can’t help it. It’s still the Iron Bowl. Looking forward to the commentary today Acid!
Why not? Im a LSU fan need you guys to win. I think this might be a good match-up for you guys as long as they dont throw to the TE, that Holland guy is pretty spare. Good Luck Beat Satan
…..It’s now official. Arkansas has relieved interim head coach John L. Smith of his duties. That makes three SEC teams with no head coach: Kentucky, Tennessee, and now Arkansas.
Regardless of the outcome, I am hoping for FOUR head coaching vacancies (plus one AD) after this game!
Michael Val
(who doesn’t hate CGC, but just sees the need for CHANGE)
…..I see ‘em waiting till at least Dec. 1, and saving some change.
Unless, the NCAA infractions could limit that….but, you’re likely correct.
…..Except it could take years before the NCAA releases any findings. It took ‘em 5 years to sanction Southern Cal, who’s boosters basically provided Reggie Bush a mansion to live in while he was playing for them.
I will be watching with my best friend from Auburn, who is recovering from a midl stroke (like any stroke can be called “mild”).
WAR EAGLE!!!
Michael Val
(who will cheer the Men in Blue until triple-zero on the clock!)
Morning everyone! Happy game day! It’s a beautiful day on the Great Plains….chilly, but sunny:). We’ll have a Dino themed bday party for little ToTM, then we’ll watch the game.
Here’s to a great day! War Eagle to everyone!
…..Happy Birthday! Hope he enjoys it! I was a big dinosaur nut when I was a kid, too. My favorite was Dino, the corporate mascot of Sinclair Oil Company, whose ads were all over the TV…

…..In early SEC action this morning, Georgia is whacking instate rival, Georgia Tech, 14-0 midway through the first quarter in Sanford Stadium.
Watching Ga Tech online running the wishbone sure makes me want to see some of that today.
This UGA/GT game reminds me of the game a few weeks ago at Jordan Hare. UGA does have some weapons.
…..Tech’s had problems on defense all year. Against Georgia’s offensive talent, that’s not a good thing. I’d have rather had Georgia struggle a bit today. I’m afraid they’ll get the big head, and be vulnerable to Bama next week because of it.
…..Frankly, I don’t like either Bama or Georgia. I’m rooting for a 0-0 tie in regulation, then the Georgia Dome power goes out and they have to call the game. Keep both of ‘em out of the BCS title game!
I live in SC on the Ga line, I have to listen to the Ga mouths all the time, it is almost as bad a bama I’m hoping they will both get disqualified so it will shut both of them up. We might just be the one to beat bama today!
Good call on the Bama/UGA game Acid. I am surrounded by Bama fans in my family and I have a lot of UGA friends that are at the game in Athens today. I have been invited to attend the SEC game next week, but I will go to the local Auburn bar in Atlanta to watch the game.
War Eagle e’erboby! Win or lose I bleed orange and blue!
…..War Eagle!
…..Checking the Community Coffee scoreboard, in the Futility Bowl in Knoxville, Tennessee leads Kentucky 14-7 at the end of one quarter.
In the lame duck coach bowl, Tn leads Ky 14-7
…..Rivalry Saturday update: Urban Meyer’s team is struggling in Columbus. Michigan leads Ohio State 14-10 late in the 2nd quarter.
Go Michigan, make Cryer Meyer cry like he did when AU beat him.
…..Late in the first half, Georgia has steamrolled to a 28-3 advantage over the Rambling Wreck. Should be plenty rested in Atlanta next weekend.
Well I’m at the mall about to catch the shuttle to BD. I’ve see. About 30 au fans so far…
…..Good luck in Bryant Denny! Pull ‘em through for us!
Interesting commentary on 97.3 FM in B’ham. For some reason, Max Howell is really on the Bama band wagon.
Auburn born and Auburn bred, and when I die I’ll be Auburn dead!!
WAR DAMN EAGLE!!
…..War Eagle!!!
…..Rod and Stan just had a fantastic phone interview with Lawyer Tillman! Described the 1986 reverse for the score to beat Bama, perfectly!
Watching Ga dismantle Ga Tech. I can’t help but wonder how many people Prosch would run over in a wishbone attack.
…..He’s not really a prototypical wishbone fullback. A lot of those guys were around 220-230, with breakaway speed to keep the linebackers and secondary honest, and not camping out on the flanks. If you look at the great Auburn option fullbacks like William Andrews and Tommie Agee, they had speed up the gut.
…..Prosch would be a killer Walsh-west-coast fullback. Think Tom Rathman, on those old 49er teams. Except Prosch is about 30 pounds heavier.
Agree. It could be a beautiful thing to watch.
…..Checking the fried grilled cheese/hotdog combo scoreboard: UGA has kept their BCS hopes alive. They now lead Georgia Tech 42-3 at the end of the third, in a game that’s a foregone conclusion.
…..Kentucky is giving Tennessee all they want. Vols are clinging to a 20-17 lead midway through the third.
…..The Iron Bowl is one hour away, folks! War Eagle!
I have already had a few glasses of wine to prepare for this game. Hopefully, Jay Prosch will play the entire game.
…..No booze yet, but I’ve had a lot of junk food, and could really use a good nap right now!
…..That oughtta ’bout do it. Tennessee looks like they’ll get their first SEC win of the year. Vols score on the post, and now lead Kentucky 34-17 late in the 3rd.
…..Auburn and Kentucky remain in the hunt for worst in the league, and the first pick of the draft… nevermind. Wrong league!
Whew! I could use a good nap too. Birthday done and now little guy is down for a nap. Officially 3 years old. Can’t believe it!
Acid, his favorite dinosaur is either a t-Rex, triceratops or an apatosaurus, depending on the day…..and he’s good with these names. It’s unbelievable.
Actually getting excited about kickoff…can’t help myself!
The GT/UGA game is no longer a rivalry. GT is down by 42-10 and Paul Johnson continues to run the football. It is all red in the UGA stadium at this point. I think that UGA has now won 10 out of the last 11.
Tailgate meal of fajitas for 2 with my wife done, now I’m ready for kick off, excited, ready to see what the tigers can do!
I am waiting to hear Chizik’s pre game interview. Could this be his last?
…..Looks like Michigan is going to derp their big rivalry game away. Ohio State has the ball with less than five minutes left, and only 4 minutes left.
…..Michigan brain trust left Denard Robinson on the bench the last series, too.
Chizik would make a good politician. Very little emotion today. I see that Jake Holland is in the middle today.
…..Notes from Chizik’s pregame interview: “We must be perfect to win.” “Good focus, worked hard in practice, good week.” Uh oh. Has said “no question” at least eight times.
…..Ohio State beats Michigan 26-21, and Georgia over Georgia Tech 42-10 is a final, also.
Last nite rumors started swirling around rivals and 24/7 boards that Trooper Taylor had told some of the team, that today was the last game for Chizik.
I am not the source, and don’t know if y’all talked about this yet….
…..I saw a thread on that on AUC. Mods didn’t comment, one way or another. Another thread asked if McCarron was suspended for this game. I give no credence to either notion, nor the Jimbo to Auburn rumors. Let’s see a reputable news outlet report it, first, I sez.
Ohio State is now undefeated. First undefeated team that was on probation since Auburn. At least they were able to keep their TV rights.
…..The NCAA has pretty much stopped issuing TV bans, due to the fact that it penalizes a whole league. What happens now is that the league withholds the TV money to the team on probation. The team can get half that money back later, if they keep their noses clean.
From the chizik pre-game interview:
“Jonathan Wallace is here and he has to be ready to play some football.”
Um, yeah. Glad we aren’t dressing out the round ball team……
I see that Fisher is in for McNeal and Egua in for Lemonier.
…..And Jake Holland gets the start in the middle, because we have no one else healthy enough, except maybe Ashton Richardson.
…..Demetruce McNeal’s bugaboo all season has been being out of position and not understanding his assignment. He’s got good speed, but the staff is looking for assignment football, this late in the season.
As expected, I do a lot of orange in BD.
…..Vern and Gary. I’m hoping Stan and Rod’s broadcast can keep up with the TV picture.
…..And the CBS guys can’t wait to talk about the Yahoo NCAA piece.
…..We’re back to our standard offensive line setup. Uzomah gets the start at tight end. Wright and Blackson get the start at tackle. Mincy and Holsey at corner, Ryan Smith and Jermaine Whitehead will start at safety.
…..Typical offensive strategy against Auburn this season has been to check personnel. If Auburn’s in nickel, run the ball. With three linebackers in, throw to the flat or tight end. We’ll see if Bama does that early.
…..Alabama wins the toss, and they’ll take the ball first.
…..Cody Parkey will kick it off. This Iron Bowl is ON! The boot is through, and out of the end zone for a touchback.
Well kick off was good.
…..From the Bama 25, here comes McCarron in the gun. Slant, and dumped immediately is the tight end Williams.
…..Give to Lacey, and he powers to the 36, first down.
…..Gun, changing the play. Three wides. Give, Lacey picks his way up the short side, about three.
I was sure they would throw a td pass……go for the jugular. Glad that they did not.
…..Shotgun. Lacey, and he’ll power up to the 44.
…..3rd and 2, acey, and he’ll break a tackle and slash for the first.
Just wanted to say hello to Jessica. She is the niece of a good friend. Jessica just started at Auburn’s Vet school and came over from Georgia Southern. This will be her first Iron Bowl and welcome to the Auburn family.
…..McCarron, will check. Will fire, and that one is batted down!
Signs of life on D.
…..Blackson with the deflection. McCarron in the gun again. He’ll drop, and this one is blown dead. Fluker false start?
…..Call: False start!
…..2nd and 15 Bama. Two back gun. Mccarron takes, and he’s flushed out. Will run, fires upfield, and has Cooper for a big gain, and Auburn gets flagged too.
Missed the holding on Bama.
That call on T. Bell was ridiculous
…..New set of downs for Bama at the Auburn 21. Quick slant, has Cooper hit down at the 15.
…..2nd and 4. Pistol set. Here’s Yeldon, and he’s tripped behind the line!
…..3rd and 6 Tide. McCarron in the gun. Will face a big rush. time, throws too look for Cooper, and a late flag.
…..Whitehead will be flagged for the push.
b*******t.
…..That will give Bama a first down at the Auburn two. Jumbo set. Give to Lacey, and he’ll walk in.
Well, penalties gave him that. Was hoping to hold them to a field goal. Bummer
Auburn is not going to get any calls from the refs today.
…..Jeremy Shelley in for the PAT. It’s up, and it’s good. With 11:07 left in the first, Alabama takes a 7-0 lead. They’ll leave an extra tip for the zebras, who failed to call holding on the Bama offensive line, and nailed the Auburn secondary for two ticky-tack 15 yarders.
Well that was a nice drive & the TD run was real easy. Standard operating procedure for this year.
…..Time to see if Scot Loeffler can call anything today.
Guess not based on the 2nd down sweep to McCalebb into the the short side…at least he tried to run prosch out in frong
…..Cade Foster will tee this one up, and boot it to McCalebb at the two, and he darts through a hole to the 23.
…..Tigers will open the offset I, and Mason cracks off the left side, got about three.
Oh, off tackle..I won’t miss you….
…..2nd and 7. Shifts, pitch to McCalebb, and nothing there.
…..3rd and 8. Wallace in the gun. He’ll move ‘em around. Takes, and has time. Upfield, and Knocked out by Belue knocks out the ball intended for Blake.
So I guess a full body grab is not interference. ….interesting
…..Yes, but we’ll get called for hand checks.
We will not get a single call. That said Blake has no excuses for not catching that pass
…..Steven Clark in, 3 and out. This punt is whacked high, and short. Stallworth downs it at the 39.
I sure hope our next coach & AD get the ridiculous “War Eagle” off the players asses.
…..Don’t need no Auburn tramp stamp!
What? No ‘war eagle’ tramp stamp??? Yeah, probs not good for morale.
…..Alabama with one back, will fake, time, and a bomb. WAY over everyone’s head.
…..Shotgun, and here’s McCarron handing to Yeldon, and he spins for about 6.
…..3rd and 4. Changing the play. Auburn showing blitz. Slant, and C. Jones has it for ten and a first down.
What a nice little play. Have we run a slant this year?
1st and 10. Changing the play again. Here’s a broken route, thrown incomplete.
…..However, Auburn lined up offside. Whitaker.
…..1st and 5. Fake, and a deep out, Cooper has it for 15 more.
Wow. All I have to say is wow. Zebras gotta at least pretend to make it fair. Even Vern and Gary are perplexed.
…..1st down at the Auburn 25. Here’s a low snap, McCarron has time, runs, and throws the ball low and away.
…..Dropped ball.
…..2nd and 10. Draw, and Yeldon hammers, stood up, will be driven back from the 22.
…..3rd and 7, possession play. McCarron changing up. Will take, and has time, Dumps underneath, and Bell has it, not covered, and he’s all the way to the Auburn ten.
…..T’Sharvan Bell is down, and it looks like the knee he had last year. Man.
…..I stand corrected. He led with the helmet, and got rattled around pretty good.
Where in the heck were the linebackers, they beat us to death with that play the last 3 years, wake up somebody!
…..Bama has it, first and goal from the six.
…..Here’s the ace formation. McCarron will give, Yeldon spun around and won’t get back to the line!
…..2nd and goal. Two backs. McCarron to throw, will take off, and he’s wrestled down at the two!
…..3rd and goal at the two. Jumbo set. Noseguard at fullback. Yeldonw, and he’s close, they say in.
Checking in to the live thread! I got kicked out of the living room. My wife and I were decorating our Christmas tree, but I’ve gotten too distracted by the mess I’m watching in Bryant-Denny at the moment.
At least we didn’t go down by 2 scores until almost 10 minutes had elapsed.
…..Shelley in, and the PAT is good. With 5:01 left in the first, Alabama leads 14-0.
Ridiculous. He was hit at the 2 and drug the defense with him.
…..The game hinges on this first quarter Auburn possession, sad to say. Another three ‘n’ out, and Bama score will put this one out of reach.
For some reason I think the defense is playing better than they did against UGA and TAMU, but the results aren’t there…we aren’t making any big plays.
What is this about the defensive players not following bvg’s plays? Mutiny!
At this rate 56-0′ that is if we don’t give the ball away.
…..Here’s Cade Foster for another kickoff. They’ll boot it to McCalebb at the one, and he is dumped at the 21.
Blackson got blown away by a down block form Kuwandrjo (SP?) on the TD play…otherwise he’s been about the best lineman so far.
…..Tigers in the gun. Empty. Fires on the comeback, through Uzomah’s hands.
…..2nd and 10. Shotgun. Draw to McCalebb, and he’s bumped forward for two.
Auburn has been outscored 85-7 in the first quarter of the SEC games this year.
…..3rd and 8. Wallace will face field pressure, and he’s unsure… calls time.
…..4:02 left in the first, and Auburn has a critical 3rd and 8 coming.
Auburn average yards to go on 3rd down this year is 8.3, 3rd most in the NCAA.
…..Tigers in the gun. Wallace will take, and time, fires down the middle, Blake has it at the 40!
…..New set of downs, double tight ends, and Mason to the left, nothing doing.
…..2nd and 9. Short side pitch to McCalebb, dumped for a five yard loss. What a stupid play call!
What the frek Loeffler? Don’t you ever learn? Geeesss
…..3rd and 14. Shotgun. 4 man rush, Wallace with time, will find Blake again, splitting the zone at the Bama 46!
Pretty pass.
…..Offset I, Wallace scrambling, will throw the ball away at Prosch’s feet.
…..2nd and 10. Shotgun. Here’s a keeper, and Wallace plows to the 41.
…..3rd and 5. Wallace will have two backs to block. Blitz, and that ball is thrown high, and Reed can’t bring it in at the 35.
…..4th and 5, and they are letting the clock run down. Clark in.
I just wona bet. Auburn is now in Alabama territory.
…..Auburn will take the delay of game penalty, to back it up to the 46.
…..Bama declines. So Clark punts from the 41. This one is hitting around the 20, and tightropes the sideline to the 12.
…..McCarron in the pistol. He’ll deal it off to Lacey, and nothign doing! Lost a yard?
…..2nd and 10 Bama. McCarron will let the clock run down, and that ends the first quarter. Bama leads, 14-0.
Should have gotten flagged on that play. Come on boys, play smart.
…..On the last play, head injury, what head injury? T’Sharvan Bell was back in the game.
We could use a fumble here. Maybe we are finally getting our hackles up.
Sure would like a turnover here.
…..McCarron in the gun. He’ll give to Lacey again, and he stumbles forward to the 16.
Tight in over the middle
Told you.
…..Quickly up. Changing the play. McCarron will take, and he’s got time, will hit Norwood, he’s got the first down. Again, no one covered underneath.
Horrible tackling, again. Standard operating procedure.
…..Pumps, throws the screen to Jones, and two Auburn defenders leapt, left their feet, 7 yard pickup. 2nd and short, and McCarron will give to Laecey, and he’s gashing the Auburn defense for big yards.
Can we miss a few more tackles please
…..32 yards. New set of downs at the 38. Under center. Will fake, and go deep, easy touchdown to Cooper. Mincy beat deep, touchdown.
Easy as pie & we are done. No way we come back down 3 TDs.
…..Bad, bad defensive series, there. Shelley will hit, and with 12:38 left in the half, Alabama leads 21-0.
And we’re done here…..really sad. Lack of offense, poor tackling. It’s barely a game.
McCarron has all day to throw the ball. Time to do some blitzing. I may be watching the FSU/UF game soon.
We are so soft. I try to not say anything about the players but the last drive wasn’t coaching, it was no desire to fight off blocks and tackle.
Big UA OLineman were blowing away both Bates and Holland
Not that it was unexpected, but that may be it unless we can find some traction on offense, which seems unlikely.
…..Lewis and Bray deep. Foster will slash another one inside the five, and Ricardo Lewis has no hope of making the 25, and jogs tentatively to the 15 and dumped hard.
Just like TAMU & UGA games; the game is over at the beginning of the 2nd quarter.
Will,we ever have DBs that can stay with a reliever and if close look back for a ball? This is football 101.
…..Pistol set, and the swing to McCalebb, and he’s loose for a first down to the wide side!
…..I set, slot right, motion left. Up the gut, and Mason will get a couple.
…..2nd and 7, give him three. Offset I, Mason, bounces outside, and he’s got about ten!
…..At the 36. I set. Fake, Wallace in trouble, threw it away. Lotta bama defenders in the box that time.
…..2nd and 10. Wildcat, and Wallace won’t get much. Two yards.
Offense has a little life.
Don’t worry, won’t last long
Probably right
…..Auburn out in the gun. Field pressure. Wallace will call time again. 10:12 left in the half, second Auburn timeout.
…..3rd and 8, possession play for the Tigers. Wallace in the gun after numerous shifts. Bama showing blitz. Wallace panicked throw, behind Uzomah, tipped, and intercepted. Lester is all the way to the Auburn 28.
…..Here comes Bama in the I, two tight ends. They’ll fake, and go deep, and nearly got Mincy for another score. Overthrown.
…..2nd and 10. Shotgun. Draw, Yelton, will just hammer over tacklers, and he’s to the ten.
Check out Rob Pate on twiitter.
That’s a lot of fun seeing Yeldon run all over us.
Look back
…..Auburn will get a little defensive breather, as Kenny Bell is down and hurt for Bama. Comes up with an injured ankle or knee. Hate it for him.
I take it back.
Ball game. Pitiful.
If we cannot beat them maybe we can wound them into submission
…..First and goal Bama. Power set. Fake, and a fade, and Williams can’t get it, Bates in his face!
…..Lucky that wasn’t flagged. Shotgun bama. Draw, and Yeldon pushes the pile to the five.
Somebody please strip him
…..Spot it knee down at the seven. 3rd and goal. Gun. Auburn calls their last timeout of the half, with 8:43 left.
…..Q sez Auburn can’t line up right. And he’s correct. Alabama’s putting the tight end into the boundary, and Auburn’s lining up strong to the wide side.
Pass to the right flat, we never cover that
…..Bates is the weakside linebacker. He should never be covering the primary tight end on the fade.
Great analysis from the Auburn Network today.
What kind of stuff are Stan and Q saying
…..3rd and goal. The gun. Here’s McCaron, and Norwood is wide open in the back of the end zone, touchdown.
Another wide open receiver.
BVG, now you have to go. The route is on! Name your score, Saban.
…..Shelley good. WIth 8:39 in the half, Bama leads, 28-0. Making it look easy.
…..Cade Foster is a busy man today, kicking off again. He’s consistently put them inside the five, and AUburn has yet to return one past the 23.
Texas A&M had 42 by half time.
I hope Chizik has the number of Two Men and a Truck on speed dial. Actually, I hope there are several trucks available for other unemployed coaches and AD’s.
…..Here’s the kick, to Lewis and Bray. This one is taken by Bray at the goal, fights ahead, will finally make the 24.
…..Wallace will lead ‘em up in the offset I. Mason, slashes up the gut for 4.
…..One back, three wides. And we lift Prosch, go off the weak side, and Mason has three.
Worst auburn team ever.
God help us.
No excuse genie.
Wde
…..3rd and 3. Wallace in the gun. He’ll roll right. throws too low for Bray to handle it, open, no good.
Gosh is anything positive going to happen today? Never mind, I know the answer.
…..Steven Clark back in. This punt is skied. And Jones has to fair catch at the Bama 35. Only a 34 yarder.
It is obvious that Auburn needs to go back to the spread offense. I hope that Auburn can find a good JUCO QB for next season.
…..ONe back set, and the give to Lacey. He’s off the left side, and Auburn is missing another dozen tackles. Gets about 20.
Terrible effort at tackling by T’sharvan Bell there.
Pitiful.
…..New set of downs. At the Tiger 41. Ace set. Fake, and an out to Norwood, caught for 11 more.
…..1st and 10 Bama. Shotgun. Will give on the delay, and Lacey buries more Auburn defenders, and luckly tripped over the 20 yard line.
Is this an actual game or is CBS broadcasting an Alabama scrimmage; first team vs third team?
…..Lacey will power inside the ten.
…..To the two, first and goal.
the defense has officially quit
Defense is lifeless and getting dominated
Do we have to play the second half?
…..Tide with three wides, and now an official stoppage. Can’t be Auburn, they are out of timeouts. And Alabama will wind it to 5:10, and use their first timeout.
Time to suck it up and play for pride.
Can we still forfeit the game & just get on the buses back south at halftime?
Barrett Jones was running over our defense so hard he lost his shoe
…..They could hand off a dozen times from this distance, and I have no confidence that Auburn would stop them even once.
I agree with Rob and Stan. I hate losing to this “bunch”.
…..First and goal, Bama in a jumbo set. Here’s the give, and Lacey is running wide, will be cracked out at the one.
Kris Frost made a physical play there before the TD
…..2nd and goal. Jumbo set again. Here’s Lacey, and he’ll score off the left.
…..Shelley is up again, and good. With 4:43 left in the half, Alabama leads 35-0.
Will Chizik even make it to the bus before the decision is made……?
Alabama has covered the spread
I have to admit that this is worse than I thought it would be……..
…..The collapse of the this defense was typified on that last replay, with Dee Ford dancing outside, and avoiding contact with the Bama line. And that’s a defensive end, trying to avoid contact on the goal line. That’s just marshmallow-soft.
CBS is got to be real happy with this, another blow-out. No one but UA fans and us idiots will be watching the second half.
…..Cade Foster will park another one inside the five. Lewis will slash out over the 20, and will fall to the 27.
I haven’t seen three guys who look like they want to win
Tre Mason is one
Find 2 others
Wallace…having a hard time finding a 3rd…
This should have never been 3:30 game.
…..I set Tigers. Wallace will give to Mason, bounces outside, and gets about 7.
…..2nd and 3. I set, three wides. Why? Wallace will give, and Mason is buried for a loss. Why?
I am trying to look for something positive.
…..Why remove the tight end, if you’re gonna run? 3rd and 6, shotgun. Corner blitz. Draw, and Mason is loose! He’s got the first down!
…..New set of Tiger downs. Shotgun. Looks like the Wildcat. Time, Wallace will take off, tripped after two.
…..2nd and 8. I set, give Mason, he lost the ball. And Bama will have it deep in Auburn land.
…..At the Auburn 35, give Yeldon, will throw about five Tigers off in the backfield, and he gets about 4 yards.
…..Darren Bates is down, one too many dives at ankles.
Daren Bates has him for a 2 yard lost, Yeldon runs through the arm tackle for a 7 yard gain.
…..Bates may be back, that looked like he may have gotten the wind knocked out of him, with several players landing on him.
…..A whistle, and false start on Bama.
…..2nd and 8. Screen, and Jones makes two guys miss, and he’s to the 30.
This game may drive us all to drinking.
Bad angles…Chris Davis
3rd and 5. Gun. McCarron will fire on the slant, missed tackles, Cooper will score.
…..Pathetic tackling, or lack thereof.
Bad news bears
…..Shelley is good, with 31 second left in the half. Alabama leads, 42-0.
Chizik should be fired at halftime.
Not a single one of them tried to wrap up
…..Much like the Texas A&M game, total collapse and give-up effort by the defense.
…..Foster to Bray at the 3, will get out to the 24.
…..1st and 10 Tigers, I set, and it’s to Prosch, he’ll push the pile for about 6, and a late flag.
…..Call: personal foul on Chad Slade. Sixteen seconds, and Auburn will have to run another play.
Did anyone see what Slade did? May have been the most aggressive play he’s made all day
I am trying to figure out how Auburn went down so fast. All of my Bama family members are happy today and I have already received voice mails from my UGA friends.
…..Knee, and it’s halftime. Alabama leads Auburn 42-0. Same score they had last week at the half against Western Carolina.
…..I don’t even care what Chizik says. He needs to go, after that pathetic effort.
Yup.
Chizik says that we are just going to keep fighting in the second half. I will refrain from making negative comments today. The play on the field by Auburn is making a big statement about the program.
keep fighting gene, keep fighting. That’ll do it. Great half, right up there with your team’s pathetic effort against TAMU & UGA. Nice job. I hope after Dec 1st I never hear your name again.
I am glad that my four tickets are son my desk and that I did not waste my and my familes time going to this game. I hope our new coach rembers how Sabin put it on us!
No effort. I’m sick of being embarrassed like this. I’m mad that I care, I’m mad that I psyched myself up for something that the coaches and players obviously weren’t ready for. Fire the coaches at the half please.
I think Chizik may have already made a deal with Auburn to resign after this game. He did seem calm in the interview. I hate watching this.
What can you say at halftime to a team that has quit on you. Has to be a tough place to be for everyone right now.
…..Auburn gave up 503 yards that half, most of them after contact on the ball carrier. In a bad year, this team is having its worst game of the season.
…..The offense didn’t help much, with two turnovers. Whenever we’d have a few successful runs, we’d pull the tight ends and fullbacks, again, and try to run. Loeffler has learned absolutely nothing, in 12 games. This staff needs to go to the WAC, or something.
…..Worst two Auburn losses of my lifetime were the 42-0 loss to Tennessee in 1980, and the 63-21 loss to Texas A&M this year. This Iron Bowl is quite likely to seriously eclipse both.
Twitter is blowing up about Chizik. Rob Pate is not very happy. His show will be good on Tuesday night.
I agree the staff has to go but I put this on Loeffler first, then Chizik for not telling him to change things.
Can we give ourselves the death penalty and start over from scratch?
503 yards, has a college team ever had over 1000 yards in a game?
…..Georgia Tech had 1620 yards against Cumberland in 1916. All rushing, on 40 carries. They won, 222-0. I don’t think that’s in danger, today.
…..Everybody wanting Jimbo should notice the Florida score. Jimbo’s offense has taken the day off in their biggest rivalry, and the Seminoles trail Florida 13-3 at the half.
I agree with Acid. This may be the worse Auburn loss that I have seen next to the Texas A&M loss.
If I were Chiz, I would say, guys you are here at AU for one purpose–to play football, is that the best you’ve got? Because I’ve got 7.5M coming my way in about a week. What do you have?
I may need one of you to post bail for me before this is over. I’m surrounded by loud, mouthy, and drunken bammer a-holes and have little patience after this season! I will try to stay on the high road…
I’m a minister and I might even have to have a drink tonight.
I just started. I predict it won’t make it better.
Honestly, I knew it would be ugly, but I thought that we would have more fight.
Shows how the team has completely quit on this coaching staff. Our two biggest rivals, & we get destroyed. Well, last year too. Right before the game I predicted to my friends a 45-3 loss. Looks like I under-estimated a little. Wondering how long Saban leaves in his starters? If I were he, maybe one possession in the 3rd? Obviously, they have bigger games coming. Not like we are really putting up much of a fight that his 3rd teamers can’t match.
In my 51 years this is the worst loss I have ever seen. The only question is will coach satan stop and kill and maime or go for destroy.. I thought next year we could rebound…but now it looks to me like it may wound us for several years, these players may never recover from this game. It might take 4 years to recover mind set. And I am an optimistic person.
…..To hear Chizik talk, we’re in a tight game against Southern Miss or somebody. No concern, at all. I figure he’s looking forward to Christmas at home this year.
He is looking forward to the upcoming $7.5M handshake.
…..Other SEC teams are taking care of business right now. Florida leads punchless FSU, 13-3 at the half. Vanderbilt is pulping Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, 35-14. The Commodores will win 8 games in the regular season.
…..Another kickoff, and McCalebb won’t make the 20.
I agree. It may take some time to rebuild the team after this game. There will be no extra practice time after this game.
I have a friend at the game and I hear that it is difficult sitting in the stands.
…..Tigers in the I. Here’s a power give, and Mason is stopped at the line. nine men in the box.
…..Shotgun on 2nd and 10. Wallace takes, and he’s throwing short to Uzomah, hit down at the 25.
…..3rd and 5. Loaded right. Wallace will change the play. Calls time? No delay of game.
I commend you for your game coverage. I can tell that Rob and Stan are frustrated.
…..3rd and 10. Slow again. Wallace dropping deep, will run, fumbles, and falls on it at the 19.
…..Steven Clark will punt this one away. It’s driving JOnes back, and he fair catches at the Bama 39. 42 yards.
Sometimes you hate it when you’re right. I never dreamed Chizik could be this bad. This hurts.
It also goes to show you how unfair the world is. Doug Barfield didn’t get a Jay Jacobs buyout … he took a job selling furniture when he left Auburn. Later, he got back into coaching … at Evergreen/Conecuh Co HS. I don’t know that Chizik could handle Evergreen. *sigh*
WDEA
…..Bama starters back in, Pistol set. Lacey, and he’ll stretch it out, out of bounds at the 45.
…..ONe back. Give Lacey, and he just drags Whitehead for five or six yards. Hit behind theline, but a first down. Here’s Lacey again, does get the first down this time.
…..McCarron in the gun. Will take, have time, flushec out, will sail one up for grabs, incomplete.
I liked Frost’s closing speed when he hurried McCarron
…..2nd and 10 at the Auburn 48. Shotgun, will draw it to Lacey, and he will just power for about seven.
If anyone cares, the FSU/UF game is a good one on ABC.
…..3rd and 3. Bama in the gun, 3 backs. Motion out. McCarron, will fire on the quickout to Norwood, andhe’s close.
…..Chains in with 9:31 left in the 3rd. Measurement, and it’s a first down.
…..Shotgun on first down. Fake, and deep down the middle, and they score again.
…..Shelley is up and good again, with 9:03 left in the 3rd, Alabama leads 49-0.
Surely, the starters now come out. If not I hope at least one of them gets hurt.
I’m going to finish watching this, but I’ll catch up with y’all later. Here’s to better seasons. War Eagle!
…..Don’t blame anyone for leaving. Clearly the coaches and players have checked out. I’ll be here till the end, though.
I’m just sad. Can’t believe how far we’ve fallen….appreciate your Herculean efforts.
I thought Holsey had played well this year for a freshman…but he got toasted on that play
Likewise. I sat through a bad game at Legion Field in 1974.
I meant the 1973 game. It was 35-0 Bama.
…..Cade Foster with his eighth kickoff, and this one is to McCalebb at the ten, and he’s spilled at the 18. No blocking at all.
I find myself wondering which situation would p**s off the Bammers more. I think losing to ND in the NC game. Second choice is losing to UGA in the SEC game.
Living in GA, I would love it if UGA beat AL. I don’t have the same hatred towards the Dogs.
…..Frazier is in at the QB spot. IN the gun. Fake, and here’s a dropped screen to McCalebb.
…..2nd and 10 for Frazier. Draw, and not much for Mason.
Hell, keep the starters in. 100-0 maybe our dumbass president will get smart enough to fire Jacobs AND Chizik.
…..3rd and 9. Frazier will take in the gun. Blitz coming, and the draw, McCalebb dances sideways, and he’ll lose a yard.
How many 3 & outs have we had today?
We’re 3 of 8 3rd down efficiency … I agree, seems much worse
…..Steven Clark getting a workout. Will boot this oneto midfield, bounces to the Bama 40.
I can’t imagine the turds are even happy about this blowout. It’s like they’re playing a pop warner team. There can’t be a lot of satisfaction in beating Auburn this year.
…..Commercial suspense, will the Bama starters get one more score? Or will the dogs be called off?
Last comment: If you STILL think Chizik should be given another year, PLEASE, I beg you, don’t procreate. The human race couldn’t stand the addition of that much more collective stupidity.
…..What have we had success on today, on offense? Off tackle runs. They’ve disappeared. Sitdown passes into the zone. They’ve disappeared. Loeffler must go.
…..Agreed, Capn. This sort of effort isn’t worth minimum wage, much less a staff that makes 5 or 6 million.
1 score from the all time worst loss ever in this series
This coaching staff, administration & team has completely dismantled a proud program. Nice job guys. Way to take us from a NC to the Sun Belt.
…..One back set for Bama, backups in. Sims gives to Drake, will get about five.
…..Shotgun Sims. He’ll deal to Drake, and gets a couple more.
The rebuilding process will be huge for this Auburn team with all of the lost recruits. We can start with finding a good QB and change the offense. Bama backups are in the game.
…..3rd and 3 Bama. Shotgun for Sims. He’ll take, keep, and spin for about 10 yards up the gut.
…..At the Auburn 45. Sims stays in the gun. Will deal to Drake, falls forward for three.
…..Sims fakes, rolls into pressure, and throws it away, and a flag. Lemonier leveled him late.
Another in my season’s of first (things I had never, ever done before)…..I just quit watching the Iron Bowl. UF/FSU now on in the ATL. This follows the other first this season….leaving a game at the half (TAMU) and not going to the UGA home game.
…..New set of Bama downs. From the Auburn 28. One back set. Fake, rolls, Sims will keep and get about seven yards.
…..2nd and 3. Sims in the gun. He’ll fake, and keep, will be spilled for nothing into the boundary. Holsey on the stop.
I saw Blake Sims play in high school. I thought he was going to sign with Georgia.
…..3rd and 4 Bama. Shotgun. Sims will keep, and get about 10 more to the 13.
…..1st down Bama. Twins left. Drake up the gut, gets a yard or two.
…..2nd and 9 at the 12. Shotgun. Sims will deal it to Drake, spun around, fighting forward, FUMBLES! And Auburn has it?
WDE
…..Tigers finally get a stop, and the ball back at the seven! Nosa Eguae with the recovery.
Will Muschamps jus tlost his mind & dropped two “f’ bombs after a blown call. At least he is passionate.
Same old Muschimp! With a f bomb here and a f bomb there….
We got a fumble, the worm has turned, we have them right where we want them now.
I thought we were going to score during the commercial …
Thank God for Laphroaig.
Gotta run out to pick up smoked turkeys for a late TG dinner tomorrow with the in laws, most of whom are Bama fans and some are Obama voters.
Hell, it’s 5 o’clock. I need a dram.
…..Checking the Club-400 scoreboard, Florida state has roared back and taken a 17-13 lead over the Florida Gators in the 3rd.
Now 20-13 FSU
I am the only one left watching the game. I am thankful that I also pull for FSU. They are beating the Gators 17-13.
…..Wallace back in, gives to Mason out of the jumbo set, 2 yards.
Checking out guys, lights out and business closed. Going home to drink. Great job Acid, look forward to seeing your grades tomorrow. Curious if you give anyone higher than an F. Maybe kickers only.
…..Shotgun. Wallace fakes, rolls, throws way too low for Blake.
…..3rd and 8 Tigers. Wallace in the gun. Motion in. Takes, time, deep corner route, and Blake has it! At the 32!
… that was pretty
Great throw Wallace!
…..New set of downs. Three wides, no fullback. Gvie Mason, breaks a couple of tackles, and gets about 5.
Nice spin move in the hole by Mason there.
…..the Third quarter ends, and Alabama leads, 49-0.
…..Both teams kind of mudding around, right now. No diving for balls, little serious fighting at the line. It’s a patty-cake, Pro-Bowl sort of deal from here on out, I think.
How many yards for mason?
53
…..Funny thing earlier in the season. Folk were taking Blake away alot, with man-over double coverage. Now, they let him eat their zones up, because they know we can’t sustain drives throwing to him.
…..There’s my moon.
…..Fake, bomb into cover two, and picked off. Going deep for Sammie Coates, and he jumped early.
…..WIth 14:51 left in the game, Bama will take over again. Third turnover of the game for the Tigers.
…..Sims on the keeper, not much.
…..2nd and 10 Bama. Sims in the ace formation. Fake, rolls, will fire upfield, caught by Holsey, but he’s out of bounds.
…..3rd and 10 for Sims. From the Tide 14. Two backs, shotgun. Sims will call time.
…..13:56 left in the game, with Alabama leading 49-0.
…..It won’t matter much, but I’d like to see Auburn get a stop here, and get the ball back with a chance to score. A couple of trash-time TDs would make this thing slightly more respectable.
.. and by all means avoid uat getting another TD and a claim to the worst ever defeat
…..In the gun. Double fake, Sims will scramble, and only got two, Frost on the stop.
Kris Frost has so so much more speed than Holland
I really feel for the Auburn fans who did attend this game.
…..First appearance of the day for Cody Mandel, and he’ll punt this high and deep. Bray with the fair catch at the Auburn 36. 47 yards.
…..Bama’s punter was well rested, apparently.
Maybe Mason can get his 1,00 yards. He deserves it, he has run well this year.
…..Tigers will go from the I. Wallace pitches to Mason, Bobbles it, and gets about three, fumbling it out of bounds.
well, I know some will not like my comment, but I am proud of this group of tigers. They never quit. I feel like CGC and Coach Trooper Taylor have done all they could with this group of young players and we should give them another year. These are Christian coaches and players. They are the same Christian coaches that lead us to a MNC in 2010. War DAMN Eagle.
The problem is AU has been far competitive against our biggest rivals. Barfield, Bowden, and Tubs never lost this bad against uat. Although I still think Chizik has an ego and a half, I don’t disagree he’s a good person.
I still say the deaths one after another this Summer and to start the season set the path for the year. Compound grief cursed us for the year.
rent-a-cop bed checks didn’t help either
…..2nd and 8. I set. Bama blitzing,. Prosch on the belly play, and he’s ahead for about 3.
…..3rd and 5 Tigers. Wallace in the gun. Will take, drop, pumps, tries to take off, will be sacked. Bad decision, the pocket was still intact.
…..Steven Clark back in. HE’ll kick this one WAY short, hooked out of bounds at the Bama 42. 19 yard punt.
…..Tide will go with Sims and Drake in the shotgun. Drake, and he’s slashing for about seven yards.
…..2nd and 3. Tide in the gun, trips left. Drake up the gut, fighting, will be close.
…..3rd and a yard. One back, give, Drake goes wide, hesitates, and he’ll be dropped for a loss!
We’re going to miss Lutz
…..And we’ll see Cody Mandell again. Bray back inside the ten. Mandel will hit it, ball bounces down to the one yard line, and downed.
Well maybe coach satan has a small, heart after all. Does not seem to want to score and break the record of largest win. I guess he knows it would come back to haunt him one day.
…..Tigers will come out in the jumbo set. They’ll go with Prosch, and not much there. Fought for about two, maybe?
…..2nd and 9 Tigers from the two. Two tight ends again, I set. Here’s Mason, and he’s bulling for about 15 yards!
before that last loss, he was within 10 yards of 1000 for the season
…..I set, and more Mason. Nothing doing, he’ll lose yardage.
…..2nd and 11. Jumping around. I set. And blown dead. I don’t think Auburn was set.
…..Sullen with the false start.
…..I set. Give Mason, and he’s got only a yard.
Auburn has no highlights in this game. It would be nice to have an offense that can score. This is the first time that Bama will be in the SEC Championship game and they will not play Florida.
Long night for the Auburn fans. I am past the point of wanting another glass of wine. The FSU/UF game is a good one.
…..3rd and 15 for Auburn. Shotgun, two backs. Wallace will take, and draw, Mason, and he’s out over the twenty, not enough.
…..Steven Clark back in again. Will hit a decent one, fair catch at the Tide 41. 40 years.
…..Sims in the gun for Bama. He’ll give to Drake, and he’s loose, runing over Tigers, down at the Auburn 22.
…..Tide in scoring position again. Sims in the ace formation. They’ll give to Drake again, fighting to the 17, but Auburn jumped early.
…..Clock winding around 3 minutes. Give Drake, fights down to the ten, another first down.
Auburn needs to learn how to play football again. Total lack of focus and discipline tonight.
…..First down at the ten. Howell checks in at running back. Ben Howell in the ace, will take up the gut, hammers to the 8.
…..2nd and goal Tide. Ace formation. Howell, and he’s buried for a big loss, Blackson!
As much as I want us to get the ball again … and Mason 1000 … I don’t want to see uat score
…..3rd and goal at the 11. Tide stays under center, Howell, will fight down to the five, legs churning.. Clock under a minute.
Tough way to go out for Auburn this year. A blow out by UGA and Bama.
…..Here goes Bama on 4th and goal. Jumbo set, knee. That will stop it with 11 seconds left, and the ball goes over to Auburn.
+1 for Saban
…..Saban is going OFF on the official. I think he wanted the clock to run out.
I didn’t think Saban had it in him
Calm down Saban. You have the win.
…..Offset I for Auburn. They’ll deal to Mason, and he’s ahead to the 12, and that’s ballgame.
Mason gets his 1,000 yards.
^5 for Mason
…..Alabama wins, 49-0. Tre Mason, unofficially, hit 1000 rushing yards on that last play.
Good riddance Chiz & your entire staff. Get the hell out of here.
Thank god the worst season in Auburn history is now over. I am already looking forward to next season with a new staff and bigger stronger tougher players.
WAR EAGLE. It’s always great to be an Auburn Tiger!
Sooooo … do y’all think they will announce Malzahn as the next coach tomorrow or Monday?
Congrats to Mason for his 1,000. Another bad loss. I just hope that my friends make it back home safely from Tuscaloosa.
…..Whatever bad you want to say about Saban, he doesn’t rub it in on opposing teams or fans. I respect that.
……On the other hand, there’s nothing more humiliating for me than seeing a team take a knee against us, in scoring position. Jackie Sherrill did that in 2000, and I remember Bielma doing that in the 2006 Cap One. I hate us being that inept.
Agreed … beats getting beat 56-0 tho
Agreed. I have been in that position and it is a helpless feeling. Now we will see what happens to Chizik.
When will the New Coach announcement come from Auburn?
I think Malzahn will be our coach before the sun sets Monday … my only hope is Jacobs goes as well
…..It’s great to be an Auburn Tiger. This team has a LONG way to go before next September. On a failure as complete as this team, I think every facet needs to be evaluated, and lots of changes need to be made.
…..This is officially the worst Auburn loss of my lifetime. Beaten by Alabama by 49 points. We’re unquestionably the worst team in the SEC West, and I don’t know that we could even beat Kentucky, right now.
Same here. I guess we can only go up from here. Oops we can hire Patrino that would be worse.
WORST IN JUST THE WEST?
Acid,
Thanks for another great year of gameday action. Surely next year will be better. Perhaps we’ll win a conference game.
…..Well folks, it’s been real. Thanks for hanging in there with me on this miserable loss. I’ll throw out some grades by about lunch time tomorrow. Then, we get to watch the administration squirm for the next period. I’m not looking forward to it.
…..I think this team can only get better from this point, but I can’t imagine that the current structure will produce news in December that we’re happy with. These are dark times, to be sure.
…..War Eagle, everybody. It’s great to be an Auburn Tiger! And we’ll return from this. Make no mistake!
I expect to see some heavy metal A’s in there ACID
Give CGC, Assistant head coach Trooper Taylor, the Stache, and YOX another season and we will be back in the MNC hunt.
It could be possible but I think their goose is cooked. Whoever is the coach, we will be a lot better next year.
THe team is just really young.
Agreed. I feel that a deal has already been made and we will be seeing a press conference soon.
I HOPE NOT.
Malzahn?
SMH.
My guess is that Malzahn goes to Arky…..
Thank you for your commentary this season Acid. I am just happy that I do not have to face my Bama family members this Sunday.
Thanks Acid. Back to the coaching carousel we go……hope they find us a good one. War Eagle!
Thank you as well Acid…enjoyed participating in the threads while watching this historically bad season.
Auburn outscored 150-21 in last 3 SEC games.
A perfect storm has caused a terrible year. I hope we and Chizik can take it for being, it is what it is, and part amicably if that is to happen. He gave us a NC and I will always be thankful for that.
Mikeautiger – what in your opinion were the key factors coming together causing it? Losing Malzahn and switching the offensive philosophy, the dearth of senior leadership (very few seniors starting and even fewer that were solid), the deaths over the summer?
Those things you mentioned, QB issues, change of DC, youth, our small size, a missed pass here, a penalty there on third down, just lots and lots of little things that by themselves seem insignificant add up to a terrible year. I think it did start with the deaths this Summer and when you added Prosch’s mother’s death sent kids into compound grief that mentally affected every aspect of the team mentally and emotionally. I.e. when I experienced compound grief my dad and then uncle 3 days apart; as a chaplain trained in grief, before compound grief I could do rounds in hospital over 14 floors and remember every patient I saw and what was said to chart. After compound grief started if I did not write down room number and a note of what was said I could not remember that after 10 feet out of the room. This lasted for over 6 months and I am a trained professional where death and grief are concerned. I saw a professional because I thought I had Alzheimer’s or a brain tumor but it was just compound grief. Can you imagine, young people who have experienced 9 deaths around the Auburn program over the last 6 months to a year. All that went wrong this year can be seen as symptoms of compound grief, lack of concentration, lifeless, quitting, running out of gas in gams, loss of edge to play physical. Only person that could have changed it was Jesus. Chizik and staff never had a chance or knew what hit them.
Having coached in my past and combine it with my profession as a hospital and hospice chaplain I could right a book on the prefect storm that happened to Auburn this year.
The good news time and healing can make a difference and Auburn will be back. But it may be too late for Chizik and staff.
I totally agree mike, our lack of ability in the areas of: conditioning, game prep, recruiting quality players, or coaching every position on the field had nothing to do with how this season turned out. Our guys suffered emotionally throughout the year and it showed on Saturdays. The Bammers have no concept of what a real disaster and distruction is to their community. I’m just thankful we have Christian coaches like CGC, Assistant Head Coach Trooper Taylor, the Stache and YOX to lead our Auburn Men through these hard emotional times. I just hope these fair weather fans will get off their backs and let them all have a couple more seasons to right this ship. We are young too.
…..Good win, Tidester. I’ve nothing but good things to say about Saban and the Tide. You need to go out and celebrate. Why hang out here?
I dont understand. Im just repeating the things that we have all said throughout the offseason even though all signs pointed to the opposite direction. Im all in for CGC, Assistant Head Coach Trooper Taylor, the Stache, qb coach to Tom Brady CSL, and YOX. I believe in the creed and I also believe Auburn football is more than just “wins” against SEC opponents. Its about doing things the right way and knowing we are God’s team. Its about recruiting with integrity and running our program with moral superiority. If I were a Bammer I would see no more reason for celebrating this win than I would for celebrating a win versus Western Kentucky. Those idiots.
God’s team? Give me a break.
Does that mean the other NCAA teams are Satan’s teams?
That’s almost as ridiculous as a player thanking God for the victory? I guess God condemned the loser?
I have been a tide fan for 48 years. I have been a tide fan on 5 continents. I watch the games from Australia online when I can get them online. I am probably the only person in this country who has more Crimson Tide tee-shirts than Jessie Williams.
Dude. I can understand rubbing it in a little. But no matter what the score said, Nobody won that piss poor game today. It was an embarrassment for the state that has won the last three National Championships. I have been a lot of places. Enough to know the state of Alabama is not rich, or ritzy or even close to being the cultural epicentre of anything. But we have our football and the lifestyle and tradition that is second to none when it comes gameday.. That is what we had. Until today. After today’s game what was won? It was like beating up a cripple. And the rest of the Nation is still going to be moaning “who has Alabama beaten”.
Ok. Season over time to move on. Call it compound grief, bad coaching, wrong scheme. etc. Those are just excuses, which keep Auburn from dealing with the fact that we just aren’t good. Alabama had the tornado, didn’t hurt them. Teo for ND has two members of his family members in one day, in the running for heisman. Top recruiting classes, hasn’t panned out. No excuses, just bad. Time to move on and fix it.
Updyke had it wrong. He would have been a hero if he would have left the trees alone and poisoned the football coaching staff instead.
