I’ve seen several articles today that have quoted you as saying the athletic department is considering claiming additional football titles. This is a terrible idea. Auburn is better than that.
I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.
As flawed as the pre-BCS system was for declaring/deciding a national champion, it was the system we had. Pre-1936 when the AP started their poll, there wasn’t a concept of a national champion. How can Auburn honestly and truthfully claim anything from 1910, 1913, or 1914? Show the Auburn family a national newspaper from 1913 declaring Auburn the national champion. If Auburn is going to accept a single person’s opinion (i.e. Billingsley), then why not let someone declare Auburn the champ every year?
I believe that…I can count only on what I earn.
Auburn did not earn the 1993 championship. The team was on probation. USC may have forfeited the 2004 championship game, but Auburn still did not win the game. Auburn did not earn that championship.
Please stop considering to claim these titles. Auburn has earned just two football national championships, 1957 and 2010. Auburn is a great place with a great tradition, and great family. Auburn does not need to claim extra titles to be great. Extra titles are not needed to recruit top 10, top 20 classes every year. Extra titles are not needed to attract championship caliber coaches. Extra past titles will not give Auburn future titles. Auburn is not like other schools who have already claimed bogus titles. Don’t let Auburn be bogus.
I believe in Auburn and love it,
