It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s – swaggercopter?! Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin has a lot to offer any potential incoming recruits and this very well may be the coolest way to arrive in order plea his case for them to sign with the Aggies. He refers to his go-to air transport as “swaggercopter.” Its biggest advantage is that it allows him to beat Houston-area traffic and attend high school football games with recruiting targets for the Aggies. Of course I’m sure it also doesn’t hurt when everyone at the game (players included) is treated to a grand entrance as the chopper arrives at its destination. Rumors have already begun to surface about Alabama countering A&M’s chopper by having Saban arrive to high-schools via a Star Destroyer.
(In)Famous Jameis? – Jameis Winston rape allegations surfaced this week in what has to be the story everyone saw coming but just didn’t know what exactly it would be about. I can’t help but think that Barack Obama had just been a decent college quarterback, we would have had that whole birth certificate fiasco figured out after 9-0 start and 7,125 College Gameday discussions. Tim Brando would be calling the Paul Finebaum show and predicting that Obama was in fact never born at all but instead was a self-aware robot from the future sent here to destroy health insurance policies. (We all know Brando loves himself some wacky predictions)
Now on to AU/UGA this weekend…
AU Defense Respects Aaron Murray – And how could they not? Even in Auburn’s most recent win against the Bulldogs (2010), Murray put up incredible numbers. The key for Auburn’s defensive front will be getting pressure on him and being able to rush 4 and cause disruption.
Nick Marshall’s Career come Full Circle – I am actually surprised that not more has been made of this fact. Especially with Marshall’s journey from another SEC team to JUCO program and then to Auburn is so similar to Cam Newton’s path. I do however, have full confidence that CBS will remedy this and provide plenty of coverage regarding Marshall’s departure from Georgia this weekend during their coverage. Maybe Verne will call in sick so he can stay home and watch his Crimson Tide play.
Georgia’s Defense Must Remain Disciplined – I can’t help but dream that with all of the focus this week squarely on Auburn’s running game that Malzahn will begin the transition to page 2 of his playbook and start throwing the football around a lot more. I don’t think this means Auburn will resemble a Mike Leach team this weekend, but it is worth noting that Auburn has been able to keep a lot of up their sleeve throughout this season.
Auburn Fullback Jay Prosch Makes Things Happen – Lining up across from this guy can’t be a pleasant experience.
Here is a good piece on Rodney Garner’s departure from Athens for The Plains and the man who has taken his place for the Bulldogs. With so much history at a program, it is always tough for a coach to move on to another job. I am glad that Garner’s move back to his Alma Mater seems to have caused little to no hard feelings amongst the Bulldog faithful which is truly testament to his character and the legacy he’s built coaching.
Auburn-Georgia #1 thing to watch in SEC this week – Nick Marshall vs Georgia is the number 4 thing to watch on this list, so if you aren’t interested in Auburn and Georgia playing at least check Nick Marshall playing against Georgia. Wait a minute, that doesn’t make any sense. Also don’t get ahead of yourself thinking that this is similar to the Alabama/LSU game from last week. ESPN wants to make sure everyone knows that this game is totally not that big of a deal and to suggest so would be tantamount to being someone smarter than a 5th grader.
Gabe Wright wants this win badly – It is sometimes easy to forget how close some of the players can be on opposing teams. Wright was thought by many to be a key addition to Georgia’s 2011 signing class known famously (or infamously so) as the ‘Dream Team’. Two years in, and dream is about the only thing that signing class has been able to accomplish for Georgia. Gabe Wright wants their dream to become a nightmare tomorrow in Jordan-Hare.
