Bowl tickets…where o where are we going?

Early in the year no one thought we would be seeing a post like this. A lot of us laughed at the idea of 6 wins. Bowl game…pffft, we will probably get squat or at best the BBVA Compass Bowl (aka Football game in a slum bowl) or something crappy like that.

On a side note it is a shame about Legion Field. I hear it is really a run down dump now. I have fond memories of going to Iron Bowls with my Dad. We stayed at the Tutwiler, ate at Petes Famous Hot Dogs, and rode the bus to the game. Good times indeed. Sorry for the straying off topic, I couldn’t resist.

Well, that was a few months ago, now we are discussing whether or not we are going to the BIG GAME against Oregon or Fla St. or the like. Unbelievable is an understatement. I truly agree it will be the longest of long shots if we do make it there but that brings on another question. If not to the BCS natty game, where are we going?

I have seen projections and guesses from the pundits and TET members including but not limited to the Sugar, Capital One, Outback, Gator, Cotton, and the Big Daddy in Pasadena. Stewart Mandel of SI.com has us in the Sugar Bowl against UCF.

Now is the time to get tickets at a reasonable price since the participants of most bowls are in the same mode we are. Lots of questions.  If you pick right you have saved some serious dinero and have a great choice of places to stay. If you are wrong, you have to scramble to dump tickets and hope your motel cancellation fee is not too hefty. That being said, where do you think we are going and how much of a gambler are you to pull the trigger early?

Personally, I am pretty close to going the Sugar Bowl route. Tickets do not require a second mortgage right now and since Mrs. myauburn and I are RVers, I have found a very nice RV park less than 20 minutes from the Superdome. Not to mention she loves the Big Easy.

How about some suggestions on our destination? Do I go for it or wait? Am I nuts for even thinking about this right now? Am I just nuts? (on second thought, don’t answer that one). Where do you think our bowl destination will be and why do you think so? Convince me where to plunk down my money. Another way to look at this is it will give me someone else to blame if I pick wrong.

I depends on your style. If you’re the cautious type, Orlando is the safest bet. Longshot devil may care is Pasedena, but for me the smart money is the Big Easy for the Sugar Bowl. I feel we’ll be there win or lose if we enter the Iron Bowl at 11-1. Alabama would be wire to wire #1 pick if they win out, and we’ll be the odd man out (again) with one loss to a top ten team.

Undefeated blowouts against unranked Big Ten or ACC bottom feeders count more than legitimate wins over ranked SEC teams if you happen to slip up once. And no one wants to see another Oregon-Auburn matchup, especially since Gus would have another month to prepare and they’d likely have to add a third (or possibly fourth) digit to the scoreboard.

Exactly what I was thinking, the only wins necessary to get to NO is Tenn and UGA. Win or lose vs. UAT we still get that trip. Besides if something goes wrong, Sugar Bowl tickets should be easy to dump, maybe even for a few $ profit.

NOLA is, by far, the safe bet at this point. I simply cannot see AU in the “Big Dance”, so to speak, but Sugar Bowl is certainly in reach and dumping tickets being easy enough should we end up elsewhere. Just think, this time last year we had no such worries. Personally, I prefer having to “worry” about it!!

Opinion: Sugar Bowl would be a great reward for our great Tigers, however, having lived within 75 miles of the garbage dump of New Orleans and having suffered through Katrina’s washing a lot of the garbage up here to Big BR, it is not my favorite destination. It would, however, be nice to drive to the game and drive back home afterwards. I still say that Tennessee is our main worry at the present time. Win that one and the rest will follow. Under any circumstance,

IT’S GREAT TO BE AN AUBURN TIGER !!!

    WAR EAGLE !!!

GO BIG BLUE !!!(EVEN IN WHITE JERSEYS !!!)

Time to get tickets is now. Once folks know where they are going the prices go up steeply. As I told my stupid UGA friend, who had season ticket holder rights to bowl game tickets, in 2008 when he thought they MIGHT go to the BCS championship. I said BUY THEM!!! If they go, you get to go to the game….if they don’t you sell them and make a HUGE profit!!. He waited until after the SEC game….which they lost…..and missed out on a profit opportunity.

Bottom line, if you can get BCS tickets buy them! At worst you’ll break even if you don’t go.

I’m hoping on the Sugar Bowl but I’m not going to but without knowing for certain first.
