One of the nation’s best running backs, Tre Mason, was recognized today as the South Eastern Conference’s Offensive Player of the week for his performance in Auburn’s 35 -17 win over Arkansas.
In Saturday’s game, Mason tied the record for the most touchdown’s scored by a running back by a visiting player at Arkansas. He scored four TD’s on 32 attempts for 168 yards. And it was his fourth 100 yard game in the last six contest.
The junior ball carrier is first in the league in scoring with 84 points; first in the SEC in rushing touchdowns with 13, and third in the league in rushing, with 921 yards.
Offensive Coordinator Rhett Lashlee says he is not surprised by Tre’s success. “The guy gets stronger as the game goes on (and) he gets stronger as the season goes on.”
Mason is the sixth Auburn player to receive Player of the Week honors and the second to be named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week. Nick Marshall was selected for the award after the Tigers’ earlier (45-41) win over Texas A&M.
Those that know Tre Mason aren’t surprised either; after all he rushed for 1,006 yards last year and with 921 yards, he is already close to a second consecutive 1,000 yard season.
Congratulation Tre and War Eagle!
