Forward Chelsea Gandy-Cromer scored the only goal in Tigers win over Bama
The Auburn Soccer Team beat arch rival Alabama 1-0 on Thursday night on a rain soaked field to win what has been termed the Iron Bowl of Soccer. While it’s always sweet to beat the Tide, this victory also brings a berth in next week’s South Eastern Conference Tournament.
It was the Tigers third straight South Eastern Conference victory and the sixth win over the Tide in the last seven matches. Junior Chelsea Gandy-Cromer scored the only goal of the night with a minute left in the first half.
Head Coach Karen Hoppa said she was proud of her team for battling and coming through with the win. “Typical Auburn and Alabama,” Hoppa said. “They played tough and it was very difficult. We were lucky to go into the half at 1-0 and it was a great goal by Chelsea. She’s obviously not had one in a while, but she picked the right time to get back on the board for us. It was a big-time goal for us.”
Auburn will now travel to Orange Beach, Alabama where they will take on LSU on Monday at 4 p.m. in the first match of the SEC Tournament. Congratulations Tigers and good luck in Orange Beach.
