Nobody asked for my opinion, but I’m going to give it anyway.
In 1983, I started my freshman year at Auburn. I loved Auburn, because my dad and my brother went to Auburn. I don’t remember making a conscious decision to attend; it was just going to happen. I still love Auburn.
I probably became football-aware several years prior to this. Since that time, I am certain that I could count on one hand the number of times that I have not been at least aware of an Auburn football game while it was being played. By that, I mean that I have either been in attendance, watched on television, listened on the radio, or otherwise looked for real-time updates. That’s thirty plus years of Fall Saturdays dedicated to Auburn football.
Everybody knows we don’t have much of a chance against Georgia today. I picked against Auburn in the Yahoo pool. That’s not being a bad fan, it’s just being a realist. I don’t know what the right decision is with our head coach and athletic director. I have my opinions; so do all of you.
Here is what I do know: Win or lose today, I will still be an Auburn fan. I will watch the game until the end, like I always do. I will still read about them tomorrow in the paper and on the internet. I will follow them for the rest of the year, and I will follow all of the off season nonsense just like everybody else. Regardless of whether we keep or fire our coaches, and regardless of who we might get as a replacement, I will continue to be a fan.
As hard as it is to believe sometimes, Auburn is a lot more than football. I owe my livelihood to the degree I got a Auburn. I met my wife at Auburn. I still have relationships with some of my closest friends, whom I met at Auburn. Auburn is a big deal in my life.
All of this is said to make one point…..I’ve read more than a couple of comments on this site the past several weeks saying, to paraphrase, “if we don’t do this or that, I will never support Auburn again, or I will never attend another game, or I will etc”. My response is….good riddance, and don’t let the door hit your butt on the way out. If that is your attitude, then you are not a fan.
Critical comments are great, opinions matter, and you don’t have to like everybody. But at the end of the day, you either love Auburn or you don’t. If you do, I will respect your comments, even if I don’t agree with them and / or challenge them. But if you don’t, save us all some time and energy and go somewhere else. War Eagle.

In the words of Kool…Can I get an Amen?
Amen!
Amen brother.
…..People say a lot of thing they don’t mean when they are upset. They’ll be back when things pick up again. I suspect most won’t really leave.
…..You can bet I’ll be here as long as I draw breath, and they still have Auburn football!
I am with you Joe. Auburn is about more than football wins and losses.
No matter what we may be going through as the Auburn family, I agree Joe … Love Auburn!
Thank you for saying this. I agree 100% with this post.
That’s why I believe in Auburn and love it!
Thanks for putting on paper (digitally anyway) what I have wanted to say myself!
Looking at you restless6
Pine Mt Hater, suck it.
Really good article. I needed to read something like this, this morning. Thanks Joe.
Thanks Joe!
Well said UglyJoe!
Good stuff. Thanks for posting. It needed to be said.
Thank you, I couldn’t agree more.
Great sentiment, uglyjoe, and so well-said. And I back it one-hundred-percent.
Fortunately, I think that the “I’ll never pull for Auburn again” remarks revolved not around the performance on the field, which would be cowardly and craven, but rather over all the Petrino speculation. (You do acknowledge this with the “who we might get as a replacement” statement in your post.) Although I won’t abandon the Men in Blue for that, I will be sick to my stomach if The Powers That Be go for Petrino, as I feel that would be a betrayal of what we hold dear about Auburn.
