If you watched the AU vs. Ole Miss Game into the 4th Qtr you saw something happen that you had to be wondering – how durable is Nick Marshall. I mean, Cam Newton he isn’t. Or said another way… he doesn’t have the “S” on his chest. He’s flesh and blood human. I think we all saw that pretty quickly from the first game.
Well, as word has it… he might not be playing this weekend. Phillip Marshall has even written a piece on it that you can find on Face book: http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/101013aaa.html
Auburn and Malzahn are looking at A&M. So who do you start on Saturday against Western Carolina? Do you burn a redshirt off of true freshman Jeremy Johnson or use Sophomore Jonathan Wallace? I don’t know and Malzahn isn’t saying.
And my question is still relevant… why was Marshall allowed to keep playing against Ole Miss?
Other injuries that AU is suffering that might impact play this weekend:
CJ Uzomah. Yep. There was a reason we didn’t see the tight end for only one snap it seems. It was so bad that he was sat down immediately after it was noticed. Malzahn said he was “half speed.” The good news is that Malzahn indicates that it isn’t serious. This injury is undisclosed but let the speculation begin!
Justin Garrett. Yeah, he is a linebacker and suffered an injury to his right foot during practice before the Ole Miss game. Keep in mind Garrett is injury prone – he also missed weeks during fall camp that was with his left foot that also translated to missing the first three games. His issue is that he has a broken bone in his foot.
Jeffrey Whitaker. He went down before the Washington State game and has been down since with a torn meniscus. He received surgery to repair and it is said he is close to getting a release to play. However he will need about two weeks to get into game shape so don’t look for him anytime soon.
All in all if that is all we have in nicks and bruises… AU has fared pretty well after five games (3 in the SEC). Let’s hope the luck continues.
