Carl Lawson sacks Ole Miss Quarterback Bo Wallace on fourth down.
Auburn Defensive End, Carl Lawson was recognized today by the SEC for his effort against Ole Miss Saturday night. The Defensive End was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after a stellar performance. The 6’2″, 258 pounder was constantly chasing Quarterback Bo Wallace and helping to create havoc in the Rebel backfield.
It was a breakout performance that saw him sack the signal caller on fourth down on Mississippi’s last play of the game securing the Tigers upset win over the No. 24 Rebels. He finished the night with six tackles, two sacks and 3 1/2 tackles for a loss in Auburn’s 30-22 victory.
Defensive Coordinator Ellis Johnson said there’s never been any doubt about his ability but after three games, he has started to feel more comfortable playing with in his assignments. Johnson said, “He’s always been physical and reckless (now) he’s able to play and turn himself loose.”
Congratulations Carl on a well deserved honor. We look forward to seeing you turned loose on other opponents offenses the rest of the season.
