Why does Ellis Johnson continue to start Holland? He continued his terrible play last night when he allowed himself to be reached on both long LSU runs. It was his play to make both times and he fell on his face, Again! He basically gave LSU 14 points and guess how many we lost by? I will always support my school but I’d love to hear other AU peoples thoughts on this issue.

B3, there are a finite number of people on the roster. These coaches showed up, and the kids were already on the team. Now, you might make an argument about moving people around, switching positions, and things like that. But it is amazing just how little actual time the coaches get to interact with the team before the first game. So, who has experience at what position.

The middle linebacker has an additional responsibility besides playing his position. He gets the defense lined up in reaction to the offense, or based on a call from the sidelines. It seems like the coaches think Holland is the best at this aspect of his responsibility, probably based on his experience.

We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores playing right now. Jake is a senior.

First of all the coaches had all spring and fall to diagnose Holland’s extreme lack of ability. They also had all of last years film to go off of. Secondly, I am completely aware of all of the middle linebackers responsibility having studied and played the game my entire life. That’s probably why this problem is so glaring to me and not you. Thirdly, Are you saying Frost doesn’t have the intellect to get our players lined up properly? The coaches (Ellis Johnson) have had 6 months to get him prepared.

I am proud of the way our team fought and am proud of our coaching staff so far this year. Please don’t misconstrue my intentions, but Holland is the biggest weak spot on our entire team whether you recognize that or not. Fundamentally speaking, The coaches most important job is to put the players in the best position so they can be successful. I understand if you disagree with me on Holland, but just watch how bad he plays if we keep him in the rest of the year and see if I am right…. War Eagle and It’s great to be an Auburn Tiger!

Well, if no one else will say it I will…. YES Frost isn’t as good as Holland because he lacks experience. He has ability but he isn’t very versed in playing at the collegiate level. Holland is the captain for better or worse…. he sets AU defense and gets folks into position.

And if you think that position is the only position that is glaring on our defense… you must not be looking at our defensive line. Or our DB’s for that matter. We got holes all over the place. We might be competitive in an area… but we are by no means a team that enforces its will on other teams. We are middle of the pack… on a good day.

Under Chizik this team lost it’s identity and place in the SEC. It’s a long way back.

I just hope Gus can find his way.

You’re absolutely right about the other problems uhhhhhh it’s just hard to accept.

Frost always goes in on goal line. This tells me the coaches know he’s the better/stronger player of the two, just maybe not the brightest bulb in a string of lights.

Benji, you asked a question and I was nice enouigh to try and answer it.

          • benjig3 says:

what kind of name is Kung Fu Panda anyway. you need to get a life and a job.

          • benjig3 says:

You have no credibility with a name like that. The only time you’ve ever been to Auburn was on a bus. This is the problem with a lot of our uneducated fans. So thanks but no thanks for your reply and please put your beer down you have a big day of JC in front of you tomorrow…

Yep. And lighten up on KFP9… he’s pretty cool. He just sees it differently… and that is ok.

Hell, without that botched call after the onside kick, we might be having a different conversation today. Not to belabor the point, but we climbed out of a very big hole. Next year will be interesting.

    • wde1988 wde1988 says:

What botched call? The kicker touched the ball before 10 yds. Painful. Yes. But true. I think it was the right call… and absolutely took guts to make.

Let’s just remember who dug the hole. And kept digging in it until the end of the game. We never came close to making it out of it. To be honest, AU looked as good as it did in the last minutes of the game because LSU was substituting like crazy. We were playing 2nd and 3d string with our 1st…. and yet we still couldn’t score.

This AU team might have played better than the 2011 team… but not by much. It was just that bad. The only good thing is that AU covered the spread by 3 points.

This team reminded me of the team that had Gabe Gross in it… that fumbled to Tennessee on the first play from scrimmage where UT scored a TD…. that was in the late 1990s. The good news is that it wasn’t that bad of a beating…and the weather was also a small factor… but most of that was due to sloppy play by AU and simply not having the talent.

I didn’t see a single angle that showed that he touched the ball before 10 yards. Even the ESPNites kept saying that it’s hard to do a kick better than what was done…..

You have the patience of a gnat. These kids were not going to come out and beat LSU after a 3-9 season. No way. They did not give up-which is half the battle. We will keep getting more competitive, but it won’t happen overnight or in a week. We need a couple of seasons. The damage done by Chizik and Co will resonate longer than we might like. Get over it.

Here Here TOTM. Well said. This isn’t Football Team Impossible where you make the whole thing better over one weekend. But it’s also not going to take 3 years to get it straight either. A little patience goes a long way.
